CM Punk will be competing at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Tonight’s episode of SmackDown revolved around the new Undisputed WWE Champion and his SummerSlam encounter. The show opened with a reinstated Nick Aldis making a match between Punk and Cody Rhodes official for the upcoming PPV.

Gunther, upset at not being included in the title match, confronted the General Manager backstage and told him to reconsider his decision. Sami Zayn was not in the building, but he made a similar request to Aldis during a phone conversation.

The final segment of the show saw the Ring General demanding his answer. Nick Aldis made his way to the ring and informed the former World Champion that he had decided to give him the match against CM Punk after all, only it would be a tag team match with Gunther and Sami Zayn facing Punk and Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18.

The former Imperium leader then attacked the WWE Authority Figure, putting him in the sleeper hold multiple times as the officials tried to get things under control. Cody Rhodes finally made the save for Aldis. He challenged Gunther to a fight right then and there, but the wrestling veteran chose to walk away instead.
