Bray Wyatt wanted to bring The Righteous to WWE to work alongside him during his Fiend run, according to Matt Hardy. The Hardy Boyz shared the detail in an interview with the Rewind Recap Relive podcast.
The pair were asked about the duo of Vincent and Dutch in TNA, the team known as The Righteous, who recently defeated the veterans in a Wicked Garden match. Asked about comparisons between The Righteous and The Wyatt Family, Matt Hardy said he sees the similarities, then revealed Wyatt’s interest in signing them:
“There was a point, too, where Windham, Bray Wyatt, was very interested in bringing The Righteous to WWE with him when he was doing The Fiend stuff. So they had communicated back and forth quite a bit.”
Hard To Believe He’s Not Here: Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy also reflected on working with Bray Wyatt during his second WWE return, saying it’s hard to believe the former WWE Champion is no longer with us:
“Myself and Bray, we worked together for a year, and it’s hard to believe he’s not here. It’s hard to believe he’s gone. He should be here with us. Still working his magic, but I’m very proud of The Righteous and what they’ve done and what they’ve accomplished and how much they have grown in the field of pro wrestling.”
Bray Wyatt started a feud with ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy in late 2017. The two formed a team after WrestleMania 34 and had a short reign with the Raw Tag Team Championships. The team disbanded in late 2018 when Matt took time off to deal with a number of injuries.
