Tommy Dreamer is facing online backlash after a wrestling student went public with an allegation about a backstage interaction with the ECW veteran.

Perch, a professional wrestling student and referee, shared the story in a multi-part post on X, recalling an exchange he says took place during his time around TNA. According to Perch, Dreamer “pulled me aside backstage at a TNA show, telling me he would do everything he could to make sure I don’t earn a job in the wrestling business.” Perch said the words were “very discouraging for a young student to hear,” adding that all he had done was try to learn and grow.

Rather than dwell on it, Perch framed the post as a message of encouragement to others, writing that the wrestling business “is for everybody” and urging young performers to chase their own passion rather than someone else’s vision. He encouraged taking critique professionally, but warned others not to let anyone “coerce” them, adding, “This is a community, not a tyranny.”

The post drew a response from WWE veteran and Dreamer’s close friend, Mickie James, who came to his defense. James said that while she did not know Perch, she knows Dreamer “well enough to know that ‘if’ he truly said this, there is far more to this story.” She accused Perch of leaving out context and chasing “15 seconds of buzz,” and maintained that Dreamer “will always have a job in the business.” When it was pointed out that Perch’s post was a three-part message with more context, James replied simply, “lol. True.”

Not all of the responses defended Dreamer. Former TNA wrestler Carlie Bravo replied with his own account, alleging that Dreamer once told him he was talented but that he “couldn’t hire me cuz ‘he didn’t know if he could market “cocky black guy” to the world.’” Bravo said he never changed who he is and has thrived regardless, adding, “f—- what anybody else says.”

Wrestler Joey Janela also weighed in, siding with Perch while noting that he personally likes Dreamer. Janela called Perch “one of the nicest and most humble dudes in professional wrestling” and a strong student of the game, predicting he would one day referee multiple WrestleManias.

Dreamer spent a decade with TNA as a member of the creative team, a producer, and a talent scout before the two sides parted ways on June 17, 2026. He has not publicly commented on the allegations.
