  • Becky Lynch Takes Bump in First Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Clip

WWE star Becky Lynch brings her wrestling experience to the final frontier in a new exclusive clip from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Paramount+ released new footage from the upcoming series during CCXP 2025, giving fans their best look yet at Lynch in action as a Starfleet officer. In the clip, the USS Athena comes under attack, and Lynch proves her wrestling background wasn’t wasted as she takes a bump while the ship is hit by enemy fire.

Lynch’s Role in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Lynch plays an unnamed Starfleet officer who serves as part of the bridge crew aboard the USS Athena. Sporting a stylish bob with blue streaks and the gold uniform of the Operations division, Lynch’s character works alongside Captain Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter) and a new class of Starfleet cadets.

The multi-time WWE Women’s Champion first announced her casting in December 2024, describing the experience as extraordinary. “I’m on the bridge crew, and filming on the bridge, it was one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever been on,” Lynch told Collider earlier this year.

Lynch’s wrestling roots run deep in her approach to acting. Growing up in Ireland, Star Trek was a constant presence on television. “I grew up when Star Trek was one of the two shows that was on TV in Ireland, on whatever four channels we had, so it was always on in the background,” she said. “I can’t say that I sat down and watched, but I did love the movies. And Colm Meaney. We all love Colm Meaney, any time he was on, you sit down and watch that.”

    About the Series

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set in the 32nd century and follows the first new class of Starfleet cadets in over a century as they navigate academy life, form friendships, experience rivalries and first loves, and ultimately face a mysterious new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

The series features an impressive ensemble cast including Holly Hunter as Captain and Chancellor Nahla Ake, along with cadets played by Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, and Zoë Steiner. Returning Star Trek veterans include Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, Robert Picardo as The Doctor, Oded Fehr as Admiral Vance, and Mary Wiseman as Sylvia Tilly.

The CCXP 2025 clip also showcased Paul Giamatti as the season’s villain, Nus Braka, a part-Klingon, part-Tellarite character with an ominous past connected to one of the cadets. Additional recurring guest stars include Gina Yashere.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premieres January 15 exclusively on Paramount+, with new episodes releasing weekly through March 12. The series has already been renewed for a second season.

  • Darby Allin Suffers Head Injury, Forced Out of Continental Classic

Darby Allin has been forced to withdraw from the 2025 AEW Continental Classic after suffering a legitimate head injury during his opening match against Kevin Knight.

The announcement came during Saturday\’s AEW Collision in Columbus, Ohio, where commentator Tony Schiavone confirmed that Allin was not medically cleared to continue in the tournament. Jack Perry has been named as his replacement in the Gold League.

    What Happened to Darby Allin?

Allin was injured during his November 26 match against Kevin Knight on the Thanksgiving Eve edition of Dynamite. While the match saw Knight pick up the victory, the bigger story was the legitimate injury Allin sustained during the bout.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Allin suffered a head injury from a \”singular blow\” during the match. Initial speculation pointed to Knight\’s coast-to-coast dropkick as the cause, but Meltzer clarified that was not the case, instead attributing the injury to a \”real bad fall\” during a different spot.

Following the match, Allin was rushed to the hospital. He was shown in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace on the December 3 episode of Dynamite, when Excalibur announced he was not medically cleared for competition or travel.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio later reported that while Allin was hospitalized for a period, he has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

    Darby Allin\’s Emotional Promo

In a backstage promo aired on Collision, a frustrated Allin addressed his situation:

\”The last year, I\’ve thought I was winning this war with the Death Riders, but in reality, I was just winning the battle. They\’re winning the war. You know why? Because they\’re out here week in and week out wrestling, doing f***ing push-ups.

\”I was wrestling Kevin Knight. For the first time in my career, I was scared. I felt my legs give out. I was rushed to the hospital. And I guess the AEW doctors are taking me out of this Continental Classic, and that\’s fine! If you want to save Darby from Darby, that\’s fine, I don\’t give a s***.

\”And I hear Jack Perry\’s taking my spot. I\’ve never seen eye-to-eye with Jack Perry, but if you\’re taking my spot, man, go on, win the whole f***ing thing! I hope you do! As for Darby, I don\’t know. I don\’t… know.\”

    Jack Perry Steps In

Jack Perry will inherit Allin\’s spot in the Gold League, starting with zero points. His remaining matches in the tournament will be against Kyle Fletcher, Kazuchika Okada, PAC, and \”Speedball\” Mike Bailey.

Perry faces an uphill battle, as Kyle Fletcher currently leads the Gold League with 6 points (2-0), while Okada, PAC, and Kevin Knight are all tied at 3 points. Perry will need to win most, if not all, of his remaining matches to have a realistic shot at advancing to the semifinals at Worlds End on December 27.

The former TNT and Tag Team Champion returns to singles competition after spending recent months as part of Jurassic Express. This represents his first significant singles push since late 2024.

    What\’s Next for Darby Allin?

There is currently no timeline for Allin\’s return to in-ring action. As Meltzer noted, head injuries have unpredictable recovery periods—Allin could potentially return in a matter of weeks, or could be sidelined for months.

Despite being pulled from the tournament, Allin made clear his rivalry with the Death Riders is far from over. The faction—which includes Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC, and Marina Shafir—has been a dominant force in AEW and figures to be a focal point of Allin\’s eventual return.

AEW\’s decision to replace Allin rather than have him forfeit his remaining matches follows the precedent set in the 2024 Continental Classic. The tournament continues this week with Dynamite Winter Is Coming on December 10 and Collision Winter Is Coming on December 13.

  • NXT New Year\’s Evil 2026 Preview and How to Watch

WWE kicks off 2026 with NXT New Year\’s Evil on Tuesday, January 6 at 8:00 PM ET, featuring two major championship matches as the brand\’s Iron Survivor winners cash in their title opportunities.

    Championship Matches

NXT Championship: Oba Femi (c) vs. Je\’Von Evans

Je\’Von Evans earned his championship opportunity by winning the men\’s Iron Survivor Challenge and now faces the dominant Oba Femi. The reigning NXT Champion has been nearly unstoppable during his reign, but Evans represents one of NXT\’s most exciting young talents with the athleticism and determination to potentially pull off the upset.

NXT Women\’s Championship: Jacy Jayne (c) vs. Kendal Grey

Kendal Grey\’s Iron Survivor victory secured her first singles championship opportunity against Jacy Jayne. The champion has shown increased aggression and confidence in recent weeks, but Grey has emerged as a legitimate contender with impressive performances that earned her this spotlight match.

    How to Watch

NXT New Year\’s Evil airs live on The CW on Tuesday, January 6 at 8:00 PM ET from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. The special episode will also be available to stream on The CW app and website for viewers who prefer digital access.

Both championship matches promise to set the tone for NXT\’s 2026, with two hungry challengers looking to dethrone established champions and begin the new year with gold around their waists.

  • Je\’Von Evans and Kendal Grey Are Your 2025 NXT Iron Survivors

WWE NXT Deadline delivered two thrilling Iron Survivor Challenge matches on Saturday night, with Je\’Von Evans and Kendal Grey emerging victorious in their respective matches to earn future NXT Championship opportunities.

The fourth annual NXT Deadline event took place at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas, streaming live on Peacock in the United States and Netflix internationally.

Je\’Von Evans Wins Men\’s Iron Survivor Challenge

In the main event of the evening, Je\’Von Evans outlasted Joe Hendry, Leon Slater, Dion Lennox, and Myles Borne to win the 2025 Men\’s Iron Survivor Challenge.

Evans and his tag team partner Leon Slater started the match, exchanging high-flying offense from the opening bell. The 25-minute contest saw all five competitors battle for supremacy, with Evans ultimately scoring enough falls to secure the victory.

With the win, Evans earns an NXT Championship match at New Year\’s Evil on January 6, 2026, where he will challenge newly crowned champion Oba Femi.

Following the match, Femi came out to confront his future challenger. In a shocking twist, Tony D\’Angelo made his return to NXT, attacking Evans from behind and staring down Femi, potentially reviving their old rivalry.

Kendal Grey Wins Women\’s Iron Survivor Challenge in Dramatic Fashion

Earlier in the night, EVOLVE Women\’s Champion Kendal Grey pulled off an incredible comeback victory in the Women\’s Iron Survivor Challenge, defeating Jordynne Grace, Sol Ruca, Kelani Jordan, and Lola Vice.

Grey secured the winning fall with just two seconds remaining on the clock, hitting Lola Vice with a leaping flatliner off the top rope to score her third point and steal the victory.

The match featured major drama when Sol Ruca was attacked by Kelani Jordan during her entrance, injuring her knee. Ruca was helped to the back but bravely returned to compete, scoring two points despite the injury.

As the 2025 Women\’s Iron Survivor, Grey will challenge NXT Women\’s Champion Jacy Jayne at New Year\’s Evil. Following the match, Fatal Influence appeared on the entrance ramp, with Jayne holding up her championship as she stared down her future challenger.

    What the Winners Receive

The Iron Survivor Challenge is NXT\’s signature December match format, introduced in 2022. The 25-minute contest features five competitors who earn points by scoring pinfalls or submissions. If a wrestler is pinned or submits, they must spend 90 seconds in a penalty box before re-entering. The competitor with the most points when time expires is declared the winner.

Both Iron Survivor winners receive guaranteed championship matches at NXT New Year\’s Evil on January 6, 2026:

    • Je\’Von Evans will challenge Oba Femi for the NXT Championship
    • Kendal Grey will challenge Jacy Jayne for the NXT Women\’s Championship

    Other NXT Deadline Results

The event also saw Oba Femi defeat Ricky Saints to capture the NXT Championship for the second time. Femi will face Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night\’s Main Event on December 13.

Additionally, Ethan Page retained the NXT North American Championship against Mr. Iguana, and Izzi Dame defeated her former Culling stablemate Tatum Paxley.

  • New NXT Champ Oba Femi Challenges Cody Rhodes at SNME

Oba Femi is once again the NXT Champion after defeating Ricky Starks in the opening match of NXT Deadline on Saturday night from the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas.

With the victory, Femi has earned far more than just the title. As announced on Friday\’s SmackDown, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes revealed that the winner of the NXT Championship match would receive an immediate opportunity to face him at Saturday Night\’s Main Event on December 13.

The stipulation added massive stakes to an already heated rematch. Starks had dethroned Femi at NXT No Mercy in September to capture the championship, but the man known as \”The Ruler\” returned in November to stake his claim to a rematch. During the contract signing, NXT General Manager Ava announced the title bout would open NXT Deadline, marking the first time an NXT Championship match opened a premium live event.

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis brought both competitors to his office on Friday alongside Rhodes to make the high-profile announcement. The Undisputed WWE Champion made it clear that whichever man emerged victorious would step into the ring with him next Saturday night.

Starks put up a valiant effort, kicking out of the first Fall from Grace, but could not survive a second. Femi captured his second NXT Championship reign and punched his ticket to the biggest stage of his career thus far.

Saturday Night\’s Main Event XLII will air live on December 13 from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The event, promoted as \”John Cena\’s Final Match,\” will feature Cena facing Gunther in the main event as he concludes his legendary 26-year in-ring career. Per Cena\’s request, the undercard will spotlight NXT talent against main roster stars, including Bayley vs. Sol Ruca.

The Rhodes vs. Femi matchup adds an intriguing dynamic to the card. While Cena\’s farewell will dominate the evening, the collision between WWE\’s top champion and NXT\’s dominant titleholder represents exactly the kind of future-focused booking Cena advocated for.

  • NXT Deadline 2025 Results

NXT Championship (Opening Match): Ricky Saints (c) vs. Oba Femi

Result: Oba Femi wins — NEW NXT Champion

Femi is now a two-time NXT Champion. The match opened the show, marking the first time an NXT Championship match has kicked off an NXT premium live event. Saints delivered multiple DDTs including one off the steel steps and applied a modified Kimura Lock, but couldn\’t put Femi away. After exchanging strikes, Femi delivered a sit-out powerbomb to Saints for the victory. After the match, Saints extended his hand to Femi, and the two shared a moment of mutual respect.

Oba Femi will now face Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night\’s Main Event next week.

Women\’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Sol Ruca vs. Lola Vice vs. Kelani Jordan vs. Jordynne Grace vs. Kendal Grey

    Result: Kendal Grey wins

    Final Scores:

    • Kendal Grey – 3

    • Kelani Jordan – 2

    • Lola Vice – 2

    • Jordynne Grace – 2

    • Sol Ruca – 2

Jordan and Grey started the match, exchanging early falls. Grey scored first with a powerslam on Jordan. The drama escalated when Sol Ruca entered and was immediately attacked by Kelani Jordan, who targeted her knee and sent her to the back. Ruca returned to the match and delivered a double Sol Snatcher to Vice and Jordan to score two quick points. In the closing seconds, Grey delivered a leaping flatliner to Vice off the top rope and pinned her for the winning fall with just two seconds remaining. After the match, Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid) appeared on the entrance ramp for a staredown with Grey, who will challenge for the NXT Women\’s Championship at New Year\’s Evil.

NXT North American Championship: Ethan Page (c) vs. Mr. Iguana

    Result: Ethan Page retains

Iguana brought his sock puppet La Yesca to the ring. After La Yesca bit Page\’s hand, Page responded by spitting in the puppet\’s face and throwing it to the floor. This fired up Iguana, who delivered a hurricanrana off the middle rope and flew over the top rope to level Page on the outside. However, Page pulled Iguana off the top rope and finished him with Twisted Grin to retain his title.

Singles Match: Tatum Paxley vs. Izzi Dame (w/ The Culling)

    Result: Izzi Dame wins

Dame, accompanied by Shawn Spears and Niko Vance, took advantage of Paxley early. Paxley made a comeback and delivered the Psycho Driver to Dame through the announce table. She then grabbed the dolls of herself and Dame. When Spears ripped the head off the Paxley doll, she slapped him. However, when she returned to the ring, Dame caught her with a boot and delivered a sit-out powerbomb for the victory.

Men\’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Je\’Von Evans vs. Joe Hendry vs. Leon Slater vs. Dion Lennox vs. Myles Borne

    Result: Je\’Von Evans wins

Evans and his tag team partner Leon Slater started the match. The two high-flyers went back and forth early, with Evans scoring the first fall on Slater. Myles Borne entered third and immediately made an impact, while Dion Lennox came in fourth and tied the score with a fall on Evans. Joe Hendry entered last to a huge pop from the crowd and scored a fall of his own.

The match came down to the wire with Evans ultimately securing enough falls to win the 2025 Men\’s Iron Survivor Challenge. With the victory, Evans earns an NXT Championship match against Oba Femi at New Year\’s Evil on January 6, 2026.

After the match, Oba Femi came out to confront his future challenger. In a shocking twist, Tony D\’Angelo made his return to NXT, attacking Evans from behind. D\’Angelo then stared down Femi, potentially reviving their old rivalry and adding another layer to the NXT Championship picture heading into the new year.

  • Vince McMahon Invited to Appear on The Joe Rogan Experience

Vince McMahon may soon have a platform to tell his story in long form, as Joe Rogan extended an open invitation for the former WWE chairman to appear on The Joe Rogan Experience during a recent episode featuring John Cena and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe.

The conversation about McMahon began when Hinchcliffe advocated strongly for bringing the wrestling mogul onto the podcast, calling him \”number one without a doubt\” and crediting him as the person who \”started this gangster shit and spread it around.\”

Cena immediately endorsed the idea, telling Rogan that McMahon would likely be receptive to the invitation. \”Are you kidding me? I think he would love it,\” Cena said, encouraging Rogan to \”at least send it out to the universe.\”

Rogan didn\’t hesitate, issuing a direct invitation on air: \”Well, I would definitely—Vince, if you\’re listening, Vince, if you\’re listening, let\’s go. I think this would be a great experience for you.\”

    Cena Addresses McMahon\’s Complex Legacy

When the discussion turned to McMahon\’s current status with WWE—he is no longer involved with the company following serious allegations—Cena offered a nuanced perspective that stopped short of outright defense while acknowledging McMahon\’s contributions to the industry.

\”I\’d like to think that time heals everything and I believe in forgiveness,\” Cena said. \”I also believe in like looking at the body of work, but I also know there\’s a lot of fragile stuff going on there. I don\’t know, man. I don\’t know.\”

The 16-time world champion then emphasized the importance of accountability, making clear that personal feelings cannot override responsibility for one\’s actions.

\”I\’ve learned to become a little bit more accountable for what I say and just how—just because I feel a certain way about a person doesn\’t exonerate them from being accountable for their actions, right?\” Cena explained. \”And just because he did start quote unquote all this gangster shit, that doesn\’t mean he doesn\’t need to be accountable for his actions. So, let\’s figure out what that means and then figure out if we can move forward and bring that back in the fold or if it stays the way it is.\”

Hinchcliffe closed the exchange by reiterating his belief that McMahon would accept the invitation, stating simply, \”I think he would come here.\”

Whether McMahon will take Rogan up on the offer remains to be seen, but the invitation represents a potential opportunity for the controversial figure to address his legacy and the allegations that led to his departure from WWE in an unfiltered, long-form setting.

  • Nick Khan: John Cena Has Never Complained About Losing During Retirement Tour

WWE President Nick Khan provided a rare look at John Cena\’s professionalism during his retirement tour, revealing that the 16-time world champion has never once disputed creative decisions or complained about losing matches.

Speaking on the IMPAULSIVE podcast, Khan praised Cena\’s selfless approach to business during what could be seen as vulnerable moments in a legendary career\’s final chapter.

\”There\’s not been a dispute with John Cena since he announced his retirement tour. The generosity of his spirit in the ring is unparalleled,\” Khan said.

\”There\’s never a \’I don\’t like this outcome because it doesn\’t make me look good.\’ There\’s never a \’why do you have me losing to Dominic Mysterio.\’ He always does what\’s best for the business.\”

Khan emphasized that Cena\’s collaborative attitude stands out even among the most seasoned veterans, noting that the star actively contributes ideas without ego.

\”There\’s a lot of \’hey, let\’s do this in the storyline. Let\’s do this in the match,\’ which of course you want from the John Cena of the world,\” Khan explained.

The WWE President also highlighted Cena\’s extraordinary attention to merchandising details during his farewell run. Khan revealed that Cena plans his merchandise months in advance and even considers venue-specific sensitivities—such as avoiding Lakers colors when WWE visits a Clippers arena.

Cena recently lost his Intercontinental Championship back to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series in San Diego, putting on what Triple H called an \”honor to watch\” performance.

With just one match remaining on his retirement tour, Cena\’s final WWE appearance is set for Saturday Night\’s Main Event on December 13th in Washington, D.C.

The 48-year-old veteran\’s approach during his final run has set a new standard for how legends should exit the business.

  • Stephanie McMahon: John Cena Has \’A Huge Heart\’ He Never Talks About

Stephanie McMahon believes John Cena possesses a quality he rarely discusses publicly: a huge heart.

Speaking with WWE ahead of Survivor Series: WarGames, McMahon painted an intimate portrait of the 17-time world champion that goes beyond his in-ring accomplishments.

\”I don\’t know that John would agree with me when I say this, but I think John Cena has a huge heart. I think he has a lot of heart, and I think he has a lot of love to give,\” McMahon shared.

She pointed to Cena\’s record-breaking Make-A-Wish work as evidence of his character. \”He is the number one wish grantor for Make-A-Wish, more wishes than any other superstar, celebrity, musician, entertainer, you name it. And he didn\’t do that because he was trying to hit a quota. He did that because he cares.\”

McMahon emphasized that Cena\’s commitment to meeting children was unwavering.

\”He would meet with every kid, every day, any day, you know, because that\’s just who he is as a person.\”

    John Cena\’s Drive

Beyond his charitable work, McMahon highlighted Cena\’s extraordinary drive for self-improvement. When WWE offered the opportunity to learn another language, Cena immediately accepted.

\”John learned, I believe French and Mandarin, which is a very difficult language to learn,\” McMahon revealed. \”John did several, well, he did a big press conference for WWE and he spoke in Mandarin at that conference when we were making our moves in China.\”

She described Cena\’s decision to film an entire movie in Mandarin with Jackie Chan as particularly impressive. \”To do something like that so far away, so completely removed from the things you\’re familiar with and the things know, to me, it\’s just kind of mind blowing.\”

McMahon summarized what she sees as the authentic John Cena:

\”His work ethic is real, hustle, loyalty and respect. His mindset for growth, always wanting to be the best version of himself. And I think his heart, which is something he never talks about, but you couldn\’t do all of the things that he\’s done without having love in your heart.\”

  • Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match Preview

After 26 years, over 650 Make-A-Wish visits, and a record 17 world championship reigns, John Cena will step into the ring for the final time next Saturday when Saturday Night’s Main Event streams live from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

The 42nd edition of WWE’s iconic special has been rebranded as “Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match,” serving as the culmination of a year-long farewell tour that saw Cena capture his record-breaking 17th world championship at WrestleMania 41 and face legendary rivals including Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles, and Logan Paul.

Gunther won the “Last Time Is Now” tournament on Friday’s SmackDown, defeating LA Knight via submission in the finals to earn the right to face Cena. The Ring General dominated throughout the 16-man bracket, which began November 10 on Raw and featured competitors from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, including returning names from Cena’s past like Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler.

In addition to Cena’s farewell, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced that the winner of the NXT Championship match at NXT Deadline will receive an immediate WWE Championship opportunity at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

At Cena’s request, the undercard will spotlight WWE’s future rather than dwell entirely on the past. Main roster stars will issue open challenges to NXT’s rising talents in exhibition matches, mirroring how Cena himself launched his career by answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge in 2002.

“I wanted to have my final match, and then generate the rest of the show to the future,” Cena told Jimmy Kimmel this week.

“The way I came into the business was a major star who was like ‘open challenge.’ On my first day, I was given an opportunity. On my last day, I want to be able to give that same opportunity to someone.”

  • Red Velvet Wins ROH Women\’s World TV Title at Final Battle

Red Velvet reclaimed the ROH Women\’s World Television Championship on Friday night at ROH Final Battle 2025, defeating Mercedes Moné in a rematch that saw her hand the multi-time champion her first title loss.

The match at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio served as a rematch from their November 19 title unification bout on AEW Collision, where Moné had unified the interim and lineal championships by defeating Velvet.

    How the Match Unfolded

Velvet set the tone early by attacking Moné during ring introductions, establishing an aggressive approach that would define the contest. The champion attempted to use her TBS Championship belt as a weapon, but the referee intervened before she could strike.

The back-and-forth encounter saw both competitors exhaust their arsenals. Velvet connected with her signature \”Straight Out of Momma\’s Kitchen\” finisher but only managed a near-fall. Moné weathered the storm and eventually locked in her \”Statement Maker\” submission, a hold that has forced numerous opponents to tap out.

In the match\’s decisive moment, Velvet used her positioning near the ropes to her advantage. She pushed off with her legs while trapped in the submission, rolling through to catch Moné in a deep pin. The referee counted three, and the title changed hands.

A Historic Loss for Mercedes Moné

The defeat marks the first time Moné has lost a championship since arriving in AEW. She had accumulated an impressive collection of 13 titles across her tenure, maintaining an unblemished record in title matches until Friday night.

Moné won the interim ROH Women\’s World Television Championship in October 2025 at AEW WrestleDream, defeating Mina Shirakawa. The interim title was created after Velvet suffered a neck injury and shoulder dislocation in July 2025 during a match in Mexico City, sidelining her and preventing title defenses.

Red Velvet\’s Road Back to Gold

For Velvet, the victory represents both vindication and the continuation of a historic reign. The Colombian-American wrestler originally won the ROH Women\’s World Television Championship in July 2024 by defeating Billie Starkz at Death Before Dishonor. Her 481-day reign remains the longest in the title\’s brief history.

Born Stephanie Cardona, Velvet comes from a combat sports family—her father Prudencio Cardona and uncle Ricardo Cardona are both world champion boxers. She trained in Miami before joining AEW in 2020, where she became a breakout star during the pandemic era, highlighted by her mixed tag team match alongside Cody Rhodes against Shaquille O\’Neal and Jade Cargill.

With her championship reclaimed, Velvet\’s next challenger remains to be seen as ROH heads into 2026.

  • Gunther Wins Last Time Is Now Tournament, Will Face John Cena in Last Match

Gunther has won the Last Time Is Now tournament and will face John Cena in his final WWE match.

The Ring General defeated LA Knight via submission in the tournament finals on Friday\’s SmackDown from Austin, Texas. Knight tapped out to Gunther, ending his impressive run through the 16-man bracket and confirming what many had expected since the tournament was announced.

Gunther will now face the 17-time world champion at Saturday Night\’s Main Event on December 13 from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The event, officially titled \”Saturday Night\’s Main Event: John Cena\’s Final Match,\” will stream on Peacock in the United States and Netflix internationally.

    Gunther\’s Path to the Finals

The former World Heavyweight Champion dominated throughout the tournament, defeating Je\’Von Evans in the first round, Carmelo Hayes in the quarterfinals, and Solo Sikoa in a hard-fought semifinal match on Raw. His victory over Sikoa came with controversy when both competitors resorted to low blows during the closing stretch.

    LA Knight Falls Short

Knight entered the finals as an underdog despite an impressive tournament run. He defeated Zack Ryder (who made a surprise return for the tournament) in the first round, beat The Miz in the quarterfinals after Sheamus was forced to withdraw due to injury, and pulled off a stunning upset over Jey Uso in the semifinals.

The Megastar delivered a passionate promo before the match, declaring that defeating John Cena would cement his legacy. Despite the Austin crowd firmly behind him, Knight was unable to overcome the Ring General.

    The Stage Is Set

Gunther now has one week to prepare for the biggest match of his career. While he has no prior history with Cena, the Austrian has proven himself capable of delivering in high-profile retirement matches, having wrestled Goldberg earlier this year.

For Cena, this marks the end of a year-long farewell tour that saw him capture a record 17th world championship at WrestleMania 41. The 16-time WWE Champion has been emphatic that December 13 will be his final in-ring appearance.

\”I am absolutely, 100% done on the 13th of December on Peacock,\” Cena said on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week.

Saturday Night\’s Main Event streams December 13 at 8 PM ET on Peacock.

  • NXT Deadline Winner to Challenge Cody Rhodes for WWE Title at SNME

The stakes for Saturday’s NXT Deadline just reached an entirely new level.

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced on Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown that the winner of the NXT Championship match at NXT Deadline will receive an immediate WWE Championship opportunity. The event opens with Ricky Saints defending the NXT Championship against former champion Oba Femi, marking the first time an NXT Title match has opened a premium live event in brand history.

Should Saints retain, the match would carry added significance. The NXT Champion has previously named Rhodes among his dream opponents, dating back to their history in AEW. Femi, meanwhile inventory would be looking to reclaim the title he held for 263 days before losing to Saints at No Mercy in September.

Rhodes enters as WWE Champion in his second reign after defeating John Cena in a street fight at SummerSlam. The December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event also features Cena’s retirement match, streaming live on Peacock from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

  • What Netflix’s $82.7B Warner Bros. Deal Means for AEW’s Future

In a landmark announcement that will reshape the entertainment industry, Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery announced today that Netflix will acquire Warner Bros. for a total enterprise value of $82.7 billion.

The deal, announced December 5, 2025, immediately raised questions about the future of AEW’s television home on TNT and TBS. However, a closer look at the transaction details reveals that AEW’s current broadcast partners will not be part of the Netflix acquisition.

    What Netflix Is Acquiring

The deal includes Warner Bros.’ film and television studios, HBO, and HBO Max. This means Netflix will gain access to iconic franchises and libraries including Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, The Sopranos, Friends, and the DC Universe.

What’s NOT Included: TNT Sports Stays Separate

Crucially for wrestling fans, TNT Sports and the cable networks that carry AEW programming are not part of the Netflix acquisition.

Prior to the deal closing (expected Q3 2026), Warner Bros. Discovery will complete a previously announced separation of its Global Networks division into a new publicly traded company called Discovery Global. This separate company will retain:

    • TNT Sports in the U.S. (including TNT and TBS)

    • CNN

    • Discovery channels

    • Bleacher Report

    • Discovery+

    • Free-to-air channels across Europe

This means AEW Dynamite, AEW Collision, and other AEW programming will continue to air on networks owned by Discovery Global, not Netflix.

    What This Means for AEW

AEW signed a new media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery in 2024, keeping the promotion on TNT and TBS through 2028. Since those networks will remain with Discovery Global, AEW’s current television arrangement appears unaffected by the Netflix acquisition.

However, the separation does create some uncertainty about the long-term future. Discovery Global will be a smaller, standalone company focused on cable networks and sports at a time when the industry continues shifting toward streaming. How that company prioritizes live sports and wrestling content remains to be seen.

    WWE and Netflix Context

This acquisition comes as Netflix has already made significant inroads into professional wrestling. WWE Raw moved to Netflix in January 2025 as part of a 10-year deal reportedly worth $5 billion. The streaming giant has also produced wrestling-adjacent content including documentaries and the Wrestlers docuseries about OVW.

With Warner Bros.’ production capabilities now under its umbrella, Netflix could theoretically expand its wrestling ambitions, though no such plans were announced as part of today’s deal.

    The Bigger Picture

The transaction values Warner Bros. Discovery at $27.75 per share and is expected to close within 12-18 months, subject to regulatory approval, WBD shareholder approval, and completion of the Discovery Global separation.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos framed the acquisition as expanding the company’s mission to “entertain the world,” combining Warner Bros.’ century of storytelling legacy with Netflix’s global distribution reach.

For wrestling fans, the immediate impact appears minimal since AEW’s broadcast homes will remain with Discovery Global. The longer-term implications will depend on how both the new Discovery Global company and the Netflix-Warner Bros. combination approach live sports and entertainment programming in the years ahead.

  • WWE SmackDown Preview (December 5, 2025)

Tonight\’s SmackDown serves as the first episode following Survivor Series: WarGames and the final stop before Saturday Night\’s Main Event on December 13.

The show is loaded with fallout from San Diego and one massive tournament final that will determine John Cena\’s retirement match opponent.

How to Watch: SmackDown airs at 8 PM ET on USA Network and Netflix.

The Last Time Is Now Tournament Finals: Gunther vs. LA Knight

After cutting through a field of 16 competitors, Gunther and LA Knight will collide with everything on the line. LA Knight defeated Jey Uso to punch his ticket to the finals while the Ring General beat Solo Sikoa in their respective semifinal matches on Raw.

The winner earns the right to face John Cena in what will be the 16-time world champion\’s final WWE match at Saturday Night\’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. Gunther is a former World Heavyweight Champion who presents a formidable adversary for John to overcome in his very last WWE match.

However, LA Knight has been on a remarkable run through this tournament, and a victory tonight would represent the biggest push of his WWE career.

Survivor Series Fallout: What\’s Next for Drew McIntyre?

With his team\’s win in the men\’s WarGames match over Cody Rhodes & Co., Drew McIntyre is likely going to call for a rematch. He has already made it clear that things between the two are not over until he says so.

The Scottish Warrior was technically suspended by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis before Survivor Series, but Paul Heyman exploited a loophole to get McIntyre into the WarGames match.

At Survivor Series, The Vision (Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed), Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar defeated CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, The Usos, and Roman Reigns in a brutal WarGames bout. Now that WarGames is over, will Aldis reinstate McIntyre? And if so, what does that mean for WWE Champion Cody Rhodes?

The Wyatt Sicks vs. MFT: Faction War Brewing

After Solo Sikoa\’s sole survivor win on November 28, Uncle Howdy made his return and laid out Solo with Sister Abigail. Following his tournament loss to Gunther on Raw, expect the MFT leader to seek payback tonight.

    Mystery Man Identity Still Unknown

A masked attacker hit CM Punk with a Stomp during WarGames, leading to Bron Breakker\’s pin. Many believe Austin Theory, who returned at the event, was the mystery man.

    Randy Orton\’s Return?

The Viper has been absent since October 3 but is advertised for tonight. With the Royal Rumble less than two months away, could he be positioning himself for a title opportunity?

    Women\’s Division

WWE Women\’s Champion Jade Cargill crashed Chelsea Green\’s US Title celebration last week. Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton are also advertised.

  • Nick Khan on Boxing\’s \’Going Out of Business\’ Mentality vs. TKO\’s Long-Term Vision

WWE President Nick Khan has criticized boxing\’s short-term promotional mentality, contrasting it with the long-range planning that has driven success at WWE and UFC.

Speaking with Max Kellerman on Inside The Ring, Khan explained that boxing promoters treat events like liquidation sales rather than building ongoing narratives and star power.

\”With boxing, it almost feels like once the fight is over, the promoters were like, \’Okay, our night is over. You know, we\’re done.\’ The night\’s just beginning, but because as Dana says, everything\’s going out of business sale. It\’s not really existing in a continuum like a league or a tour. There\’s no long range plan,\” Khan observed.

Khan highlighted Terence Crawford\’s team as an exception to this pattern, praising their media strategy following the Canelo Alvarez fight.

\”I thought Terence Crawford and his team did a phenomenal job post Canelo fight of getting him out there doing podcasts the Monday after doing ESPN hits,\” he noted.

    WWE\’s Perspective on Competition

The TKO executive revealed that WWE views all entertainment as competition rather than just other wrestling or sports promotions, citing the NFL\’s Christmas Day broadcast featuring Beyonce\’s halftime show as inspiration.

\”At WWE, we see everything as our competition, including someone just staying home on a Saturday night and looking at their phone and texting friends and watching TikTok. When I see things like the NFL on Christmas Day last year and the Beyonce halftime show, that inspires me. That\’s our competition. I\’m not suggesting we\’re yet in the same league as the NFL, but I look at them and say, \’Wow, they really nailed that,\’\” Khan explained.

Khan also shared WWE\’s ambitious retail goals, revealing that the company monitors its Black Friday merchandise performance against the major North American sports leagues through its partnership with Fanatics.

\”When we get our numbers coming off of Black Friday from fanatics, what we\’re curious to know is where are we compared to the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and by the way, soon we\’re going to take the spot of one of those entities. Assume it\’s not the NFL or NBA, but we\’re going to take that spot,\” Khan declared.

Check out WWE President Nick Khan\’s full conversation with Max Kellerman for Inside Ring:

  • How Wheel of Fortune and Manny Pacquiao Made Nick Khan WWE President

WWE President Nick Khan\’s path to running the biggest wrestling company in the world began with a Wheel of Fortune win and a chance meeting with an unknown boxer named Manny Pacquiao in a Hollywood motel room.

Khan shared his remarkable origin story during an appearance on the IMPAULSIVE podcast, revealing how a $16,500 game show win changed the trajectory of his life.

\”I was in law school. I worked full-time in law school. My monthly nut at that time was $2,000 a month or so,\” Khan explained. \”I knew that to study and pass the bar exam, I had to not work and study for two months to have a chance to pass. If I worked and studied, I\’d be spread too thin.\”

With no relatives willing to loan him money, Khan turned to an unconventional solution: auditioning for Wheel of Fortune.

\”There\’s a thousand people auditioning. The good thing for me is 990 of them were like 80 years or older,\” Khan recalled. \”I go on the show, I win $16,500. When your account goes from zero to $16,500… I paid for the bar review course. I passed the bar exam and sort of went on to my career.\”

Khan\’s legal career led to an encounter that would eventually connect him to the combat sports world. He defended legendary boxing trainer Freddy Roach in an assault case after Roach knocked out a man who had swung at him in a retail store.

\”We got the charges dismissed. Freddy says, \’I have a fighter. No one\’s heard of him. He\’s going to be the next big thing in boxing,\’\” Khan recalled. \”I go to the Vagabond Inn in Hollywood. I walk in the room. There\’s like 15 Filipino guys in one room. Freddy says, \’Hey, I want you to meet Manny Pacquiao. Nobody knows who he is.\’\”

Managing Pacquiao launched Khan\’s entertainment career, eventually leading him to CAA and ultimately to his current position as WWE President – a job he first encountered decades earlier as a $7-per-hour usher at WrestleMania 9.

  • Seth Rollins Confirms He\’ll Attend John Cena\’s Final Match

Seth Rollins has confirmed he will be in attendance for John Cena\’s retirement match at Saturday Night\’s Main Event on December 13 in Washington, D.C.

The former World Heavyweight Champion revealed his plans during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show while discussing his travel itinerary for upcoming NFL games.

\”We\’re going to stop through Chicago for the Cleveland game, just because we have a nice little route back from D.C. after John Cena\’s last match,\” Rollins said, casually confirming his attendance at one of the most anticipated events in recent WWE history.

    Recovery from Surgery \”On Track\”

Rollins has been sidelined since WWE Crown Jewel: Perth in October, where he suffered a shoulder injury during his Crown Jewel Championship victory over Cody Rhodes. The injury, believed to be rotator cuff-related, occurred when Rollins performed a coast-to-coast diving headbutt during the match. He subsequently underwent surgery and was forced to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship.

On the same Rich Eisen Show appearance, Rollins provided a positive update on his recovery, revealing he recently had his brace removed.

\”We\’re on track. I got the brace off like last week, middle of last week. It\’s nice to walk around like a regular person,\” Rollins said.

Rollins was written off WWE television following a brutal attack by his own faction, The Vision, on the October 13 episode of Raw. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed turned on their leader, with Paul Heyman orchestrating the betrayal. CM Punk went on to capture the vacant World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night\’s Main Event on November 1.

The timing of Rollins\’ confirmed attendance comes amid speculation about his potential involvement in ongoing storylines. At Survivor Series: WarGames, a masked figure used Rollins\’ signature Stomp to help the heel team defeat CM Punk\’s squad, leading many fans to speculate about whether The Visionary had secretly returned.

Cena\’s retirement match at Saturday Night\’s Main Event will cap off his legendary 26-year wrestling career. His opponent will be determined by the ongoing \”Last Time Is Now\” tournament, with Gunther and LA Knight among the remaining contenders. The event takes place at Capital One Arena and will air on Peacock.

Rollins and Cena have shared the ring numerous times throughout their careers, with Rollins infamously cashing in his Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 31 to defeat both Cena and Brock Lesnar in a triple threat match.
