  • Mike Bennett Calls Leaving ROH \’Biggest Mistake\’ Of His Life

Mike Bennett ended his long run with ROH back in 2015 to explore the wrestling world and according to the former champion; it was the \’biggest mistake of his life\’ professionally.

The former WWE star recently appeared on Trending With Taven, which is a new ROH show hosted by Matt Taven where he talked about things like his return to ROH and more.

While discussing his departure from the promotion in 2015, Bennett claimed that leaving Ring Of Honor was the biggest mistake of his professional life:

“What happened five years ago, professionally was the biggest mistake of my life. Hands down. Without a doubt, that was the biggest mistake of my life.

Personally, I had to do it. I had to find out who I was as a man. I had to go prove that Mike Bennett on his own could be Mike Bennett on his own. But hindsight’s always 20/20, and you look back, and you go, ‘What were you thinking? Why?’ I had everything I wanted right here.”

Later in the interview, the former Impact star explained how he has changed since then and he said that he doesn\’t take things for granted anymore.

Mike Bennett joined ROH in 2008 and had a good run but he left the promotion in 2015 after his contract expired. He tried making his name in promotions such as Impact Wrestling and WWE after his release before eventually returning to ROH earlier this month.

\”It took a long time for them to help me out a little bit.’Hey, here\’s a raise.\’ It took me almost two years. I was getting $600 (a week) for like six months and when I finally got paid off, it felt like a raise because I was getting $750. \’Oh good, I can buy a TV, but I cannot get cable.\’ It was hard at the beginning, but it helped build my character even more,\”

The problems for Cezar Bononi didn\’t end there as he was on a P1 visa and after getting released from WWE, he had only 30 days to decide if he wanted to apply for a different visa or return to his home country.

He revealed that he had tried to apply for a green card but WWE officials did not show any interest in helping him out. You can check out his full interview in the video below:

Former WWE star James Ellsworth has provided an update on his friend and fellow former WWE star Gillberg after he suffered a heart attack earlier this week.

Ellsworth took on his Twitter on Thursday to provide an update on his Friend\’s condition and he revealed that Gillberg, real name Duane Gill is out of ICU after suffering the heart attack on Wednesday:

\”Hey everyone, Happy Thanksgiving. I just got off the phone with the wife of Duane Gill, also known as Gillberg; she wanted to let everyone know what\’s going on with Duane. He had a heart attack yesterday. But he is doing good now and just got out of ICU.\”

Ellsworth also said that the former Light Heavyweight Champion is expected to be back home soon and start the transition to return to his normal self:

\”Please send your prayers to Gillberg and his family at this time. We hope he will be home soon and back to his normal, funny, goofy self. Take care, guys and God bless you all. Stay safe.\”

Gillberg, whose character was a parody of WCW\’s Goldberg was a popular jobber from the Attitude Era who had a couple of stints with WWE in the 90s.

He has made sporadic appearances for the promotion since 2003 and he seemingly retired from active competition in February earlier this year.

  • Backstage News On Impact Talent Testing Positive For Coronavirus, How Wrestlers Feel About Lack Of Testing

Impact Wrestling is the latest wrestling promotion to be affected by Covid-19. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a wrestler who was involved at their latest television tapings has tested positive for the virus.

While the report does not reveal the identify of the talent who has fallen ill, Impact had to instruct several other people to get tested due to exposure. The Observer report states that some wrestlers were upset they were not told about the situation by management and heard about it instead via people talking about it backstage.

Any infection is a serious situation, but Impact has been pretty lucky up until this point to not have any other reported infections. The company does not perform Covid tests on site, but simply checks temperatures. One wrestler expressed that management is being irresponsible, since Impact is the only major promotion not doing proper Covid testing.

The latest set of tapings is expected to carry the company to the Hard To Kill PPV in January so they have time to test the stars that may have come in contact with the person who came positive.

It would be interesting to see if this positive test changes the company\’s approach towards coronavirus testing and if we see an increase in safety measures for the next set of tapings.

  • Chris Jericho On Why WWE Comedy Does Not Work

While Chris Jericho is often praised for his mic work, he is also an incredible actor and his skills such as his unmatchable comic timing have helped him in staying relevant in the wrestling business for so long.

During his recent appearance on the Keeping It 100 podcast, the former AEW champion talked about a number of things and he also gave his opinion on why the comedy in WWE does not work nowadays.

Jericho explained that his view of comedy is that you should always play it straight because when you try to be funny, it never really turns out that way:

\”My view of comedy is you always play it straight, WWE comedy is d–k and fart jokes. That\’s why a lot of it doesn\’t work well.

Don\’t try to be funny. Because when you try to be funny it\’s never funny. And that\’s been my attitude with all these segments.\”

Chris Jericho also talked about the process of putting together a show in AEW and he admitted that there are times when some details slip through the cracks since they do not have writers at the show.

Apart from this, the former World Champion talked about things like drug use in wrestling nowadays compared to older times. You can check out his comments on the matter at this link.

  • Liv Morgan On Having WWE Cameras Around For Ups And Downs

Being famous in any field means that you have to give up your privacy and you are constantly being followed by people and cameras doesn\’t matter where you are or what you are feeling.

Liv Morgan got a taste of it during the filming of her Liv Forever documentary which chronicles a rough period of time in the female star\’s career in 2019, right after the breakup of the Riott Squad.

The WWE star talked about this experience during her recent interview with The Asbury Park Press where she said that having cameras around during the ups and downs almost felt like therapy:

\”As it went on, it almost felt like therapy, every week I would go meet with the awesome crew I was working with and they\’re going to talk to me about my life. It ended up being way more real and raw than I thought.\”

The Riott Squad consisting of Ruby Riott,  Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan made their debut on the main roster in November 2017 and the group stayed together for a couple of years.

However, in the 2019 Superstar Shakeup, Liv Morgan was moved to the SmackDown brand while her partners remained on Raw, effectively breaking the group up.

The Liv Forever documentary chronicles this time in the former NXT star\’s career and it will premiere on WWE Network this Sunday. You can check out the trailer for it below:

The Bucks first revealed that they had actually no sold Khan\’s first attempt of contacting them and according to Nick Jackson they almost didn\’t pick his phone:

\”What’s funny is he tried contacting us both at first and I no sold it because I had heard this story before. I was like ‘ah, I don’t believe it’\”

However, Matt Jackson decided to take the call and they had a conversation about starting AEW. According to the duo, they were still skeptical about it at the time but things started snowballing after their first face to face meeting:

\”I remember meeting him for the first time in London at York Hall for a Ring of Honor show. He was in the balcony and little did Ring of Honor know that we were going to meet him [laughs].

He picked us up in a limousine right after that and took us to the stadium his team plays at [Fulham’s Craven Cottage] and we pretty much talked from there, things started snowballing and we pretty much knew it was serious when we were at his stadium and he’s telling us ‘maybe we can fill this thing up one day!\”

During the interview, the Young Bucks revealed that they had plans to do a UK tour right before the coronavirus hit but the pandemic halted those plans.

The duo also confirmed that they are working towards getting a live show in the UK but they claimed that there is no news on that right now. You can check out their full interview at this link.

  • Chyna\’s Mother Talks WWE\’s Portrayal Of Her Character

Despite her troubles, Chyna remains to be one of the most iconic female wrestlers in the history of WWE and part of the credit for it goes to the company\’s unique portrayal of her character.

During a recent interview with WrestlingInc, the former WWE star\’s mother Janet LaQue talked about the impact her daughter has had on the business.

Talking about WWE\’s portrayal of her character, Janet said that at first, it was a little weird seeing her daughter as Triple H\’s bodyguard and according to her, Chyna looked better later on when she adopted a more feminine appearance:

\”Well, at first, it was a little weird because she was portrayed as Triple H\’s bodyguard, she had changed so much her body structure from the way that she was that I think she was portrayed okay. I mean, I know that a lot of it is fake.

So I mean you got to do what you got to do, but then later, when she became much more feminine in her appearance, even though she could pick up and slam just about anybody, she looked good while she was doing it. I thought it was pretty cool to tell you the truth.\”

Janet LaQue also talked about Chyna\’s pairing with late great Eddie Guerrero admitting that she thought it was kind of cool and said that the pairing definitely had some humor to it.

Chyna left WWE in November 2001 after her contract expired and the negotiations for her re-signing fell apart. She died from an accidental drug overdose in April 2016 at the age of 46.

  • Court Bauer Reveals Nixed Idea For Match Between Bret Hart & Vince McMahon

WrestleMania 22 featured a number of interesting matches such as John Cena vs. Triple H and JBL vs. Chris Benoit and one of these bouts could have been Bret Hart vs. none other than Vince McMahon.

Former WWE writer and MLW founder Court Bauer was the recent guest on Talk Is Jericho where he talked about the boss in detail with Y2J.

During the interview, he revealed the nixed idea for a match between the chairman Vince McMahon and The Hitman Bret Hart at the grand event:

\”There was a time where we had just closed a deal with Bret to do the DVD Anthology series. And it was big deal, and Bret was, at that moment in time, very small window of time, very much into the idea of doing a match with Vince at WrestleMania in Chicago, WrestleMania 22.\”

Bauer continued to reveal more details about the planned angle and he explained that since Bret Hart couldn\’t wrestle regularly, the idea was to include wrestlers like Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Harry Smith into the storyline.

This would have allowed the company to continue the angle at house shows and weekly television while also protecting Bret Hart as a special attraction.

The idea was unfortunately nixed later on and now one can only wonder what it would have been like if Bret Hart had made his in ring return for the company at the time.

  • Former WWE Women\’s Champion To Compete In Upcoming Impact Tournament

Former WWE women\’s champion Jazz will apparently be coming out of her announced retirement to compete in Impact Wrestling\’s Knockouts Tag Team Title Tournament where she will be teaming with Jordynne Grace.

The storyline for her return started last week when Grace made a phone call to an unknown wrestler to see if they would like to tag with her in the competition.

This week\’s episode of Impact Wrestling then saw the female star informing backstage interviewer Gia Miller that veteran wrestler Jazz will be her partner for the tournament.

Jazz has been a part of the industry for over two decades. She made her wrestling debut in 1998 and wrestled for companies such as WWE, Chikara and NWA during her time.

Her WWE stint included a couple of runs with the women\’s championship and she also competed for AEW when she participated in the Casino Battle Royal during the All Out event in 2019.

Though Jazz announced her retirement from active competition during an interview back in October and it\’d be interesting to see if she goes back into retirement after this tournament or if the former women\’s champion stays around for a longer run.

  • Bruce Prichard Discusses Eddie Guerrero\’s WWE Release In 2001

Eddie Guerrero was one of the biggest Mexican stars WWE has ever seen. He captured multiple championships and won fans over around the world.

However, he faced some roadblocks in the early stages of his career and the former champion was even fired from the promotion after getting arrested for drunk driving in November 2001.

Bruce Prichard talked about Eddie on the latest episode of his Something To Wrestle With podcast. Discussing this incident, the WWE star said that it was the time when their relationship started getting closer:

\”This is kind of where our relationship just started to get closer, and where Eddie started opening up to people a little bit more because Eddie realized he needed help, and that\’s the first step.\”

Prichard went on to say that he was trying to help Guerrero at the time but the WWE release was probably warranted because Eddie needed to have ramifications to realise the need for change. Bruce Prichard also revealed who handled Eddie\’s release:

\”I believe, at this time, it was pretty much handled by JR and he got the news it\’s time to move on, hopefully we can do something with you down the line.\’\”

Eddie Guerrero returned to WWE in April 2002 and he went on to have a great run with many memorable moments before his death in November 2005.

  • Aleister Black Update After Several Weeks Off WWE TV

Aleister Black hasn\’t been seen on WWE programming for some time. In light of his wife Zelina Vega\’s recent release, some fans have questioned if her departure has had any impact on Aleister Black\’s absence.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the situation. While it does seem that Black has been lost in the shuffle and a low priority for WWE creative, his time away is unrelated to Zelina Vega or his declined request to be moved back to NXT.

Former WWE Raw Executive Director Paul Heyman was a big supporter of Aleister Black. Ever since Heyman was removed from that position, it has become apparent that the new guard do not see Black as favorably and have yet to find a meaningful place for him on the main roster.

The report also reveals that the former NXT star was actually one of the two stars Heyman considered for the big WrestleMania match again Brock Lesnar, the spot which ultimately went to Drew McIntyre after he got the main event nod from the higher-ups.

However, with Heyman gone from the creative team, Aleister Black\’s WWE future \”doesn\’t look good right now\” and the fact that he wasn\’t even included in the dual branded Battle Royal at Survivor Series was another sign that WWE has \”forgotten about him.\”

Aleister Black was last seen on WWE programming during the October 12 episode of Raw where he lost a match to Kevin Owens. He was drafted to the SmackDown brand, but has yet to appear for the Blue Brand as of this writing.

  • Details On Two SmackDown Stars Not Competing At Survivor Series

Big E and Lars Sullivan were two of the big names from the SmackDown roster who surprisingly did not compete at the Survivor Series PPV this Sunday night.

Dave Meltzer talked about this on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio and he suggested that the New Day member was pulled from the dual-branded battle royal so he could possibly be saved for the grand entrance of the trio later in the show.

Another reason for not including Sullivan and Big E into the battle royal was that both the stars are in line for big pushes in future and it made no sense to include them into the bout unless they were winning.

Regarding their future, Meltzer noted that the former NXT champion is \”being groomed for a future championship match\” while Lars Sullivan is expected to be booked as \”SmackDown\’s version of Braun Strowman\” in the coming times.

Big E was also rumored to be the final member of SmackDown\’s Survivor Series team but the spot went to Otis. Since Raw went on to dominate the Blue Brand in that match, it\’s possible that the company kept the former NXT star out of the bout to protect him.

E still made an appearance later in the show when the New Day made their entrance wearing their custom Gears of War armor after the trio became playable characters in the Gears 5 videogame.

However, Lars Sullivan, who hasn\’t appeared on WWE programming since the November 6 episode of SmackDown, continued his hiatus and the reason for his absence remains unknown.

This segment got a lot of response from the WWE Universe and fans from around the world took on their social media to show their respect for the Undertaker and share their feelings.

The Last Outlaw broke his silence and made his first comment after the emotional farewell via a tweet writing \’The final bell tolls…\’ and saying thank you to the fans.

Michelle McCool and some other members of Undertaker\’s family were backstage for this sendoff according to reports but they did not make an on-screen appearance.

After the Last Ride documentary, this farewell segment is another strong indication that The Undertaker is final ready to hang his boots and it would be interesting to see if WWE solidifies his retirement with a Hall Of Fame induction this WrestleMania season.

  • The Bella Twins Clarify Their Comments About WWE Return

Nikki Bella\’s fiancé Artem Chigvintsev had said during an interview with US Magazine that The Bella Twins are having talks about coming back and he wouldn\’t be surprised if they returned.

Since the WrestleMania season is approaching, a lot of people wondered if this could mean that we will see the Bellas returning to WWE TV anytime soon, with a Royal Rumble return being the most talked-about scenario.

However, in a new video on their YouTube channel, the Bella Twins talked about these rumors and Brie first explained the hardships she had to face the last time she made a return after giving birth to Birdie:

\”A couple of mistakes I did with Birdie on a couple of my comebacks is Birdie was so little — you\’re sleep deprived, you\’re trying to train, you\’re trying to be a mom, so it can be really hard,

I\’d like to wait until the boys are like two years old, or something like that. I see us making a comeback in a couple of years, or maybe it\’s next year, I don\’t know, but it\’s not next month!\”

Brie continued by saying that they do want to make a return to in ring competition but they aren\’t sure about the timeline of their comeback.

Nikki Bella then explained that they aren\’t \’in talks\’ right now and what Artem meant was that the sisters have discussed it among themselves. She confirmed that they haven\’t spoken to WWE about a return to the ring.

This clarification confirms that the Bella Twins aren\’t planning to return to the ring anytime soon and if they do make a comeback it will be somewhere down the line.

  • Note On Otis And Bayley\’s Addition To SmackDown\’s Survivor Series Teams

The card for the Survivor Series PPV wasn\’t finalized until the last minute and WWE confirmed the final members of the SmackDown Survivor Series team during the go home episode of the show.

The episode saw producer Adam Pearce naming Otis as the final member of the men\’s team. He also gave Bayley a spot in the women\’s team to complete the numbers.

Regarding these additions, Dave Meltzer noted on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that both these stars were simply placed on these teams because the company ran out of time.

The officials apparently felt that they didn\’t have enough time on the show to add two more qualifying matches so they just decided to make the announcement in a promo.

Meltzer noted how it contradicts their own booking from earlier on when Pearce had told Braun Strowman that he couldn\’t just be added to the Raw\’s Survivor Series team and he had to qualify first.

The former Universal Champion then had to compete in a triple threat match against Keith Lee and Sheamus. Strowman won this match to qualify for the PPV and join the team.

The Survivor Series PPV saw team Raw taking on Team SmackDown in both men\’s and women\’s elimination matches and the champions of both brands colliding with each other. Check out the complete Survivor Series results here.

  • Jim Ross On If Triple H Ever Refused To Put Over Stars

There are many wrestlers who have had the reputation of being tough with the management and refusing to put over other stars, with Triple H being one of the most talked examples of it.

However, Jim Ross, who was an important backstage figure in the company as well as an on-screen commentator when Triple H was starting his career does not believe these rumors and he says that they are \’overstated.\’

Ross talked about Triple H on the latest episode of his Grilling JR Podcast where the WWE legend claimed that he has never heard of The Game refusing to do a job for anybody:

\”I\’ve never heard Triple H refusing to do a job for anybody, he certainly would not tolerate that today if he had talents in NXT or whatever that didn\’t want to put somebody over. He wouldn\’t go along with it.

\”Sometimes those things are overstated. I signed him to his biggest contract. I believed in Triple H from early on. I just don\’t know, man, I don\’t think that was ever a huge issue. If you didn\’t like Triple H or his relationship with Vince and Stephanie, now you\’re getting into a whole different area. You\’re overanalyzing the personal side of this sh** and it\’s unnecessary.\”

Jim Ross also talked about the infamous feud involving Rikishi and Stone Cold Steve Austin and how the former DX member was revealed as the mastermind behind the situation.

The former WWE star revealed that Triple H\’s involvement in the storyline was not originally planned but he claimed that the booking idea was a good audible called by the management.

  • Chris Jericho On Tony Khan Being \”One Of The Boys\” & Drug Use In Wrestling

Chris Jericho has been a part of the wrestling world for over 30 years and during this time, the former world champion has seen the good, the bad and the worst the industry has to offer.

One of the things Y2J has seen the wrestling world evolving through is the extensive use of drug back in the day to the current era where it\’s considered prohibited.

Jericho talked about a number of things during his recent appearance on Keeping it 100 with Konnan podcast, such as the backstage environment at AEW:

\”It\’s been a really cool environment with AEW because Tony is, you never want to say this, but he\’s one of the boys to an extent, he\’s one of the boys in that he hangs out after the show. He\’s very generous.\”

Discussing the difference in the drug use in today\’s wrestling compared to the past, Jericho said \”Now, it\’s you know, weed and alcohol, there\’s really no pills, there\’s really no drugs.\”

Chris Jericho also talked about the backstage environment at AEW after the shows saying that there is food for everyone after the show and often there is alcohol as well. He explained that it\’s because Tony Khan has a sports background and he knows how to take care of his athletes.

  • Kenny Omega Reveals He Has Been Working Through Injury To Avoid Surgery

Kenny Omega is getting ready for what\’s arguably one of the biggest matches in the history of AEW against the World Champion Jon Moxley for his title at the upcoming December 2 episode of Dynamite.

However, it appears that the preparation for this bout is extra hard for the cleaner as he is not only trying to deliver a great performance but he is doing so while dealing with an injury to avoid surgery.

Omega revealed on his recent appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio that he has a torn labrum and he has been working through it to try and avoid having to miss time due to a surgery:

\”So, you know, a torn labrum, as you know, is no laughing matter. That’s a surgery, but I have a very talented and unbelievable trainer, and you know our doctors, of course, are always monitoring and making sure we’re doing okay, but our trainer Bryce Ready is just next level kind of guy. He has kept me together and in a condition where I’m able to perform.

As long as I make that that I see him two or three times a week. I can lift; I have full range of motion. I just need to make sure that I can look after it, and I can avoid having that surgery.\” said Kenny Omega, \”I can’t afford having that time off. If things get worse that’s an option I’ll have to consider.\”

Kenny Omega has wrestled Jon Moxley once before in the main event of the Full Gear PPV in November 2019 in an unsanctioned match but this will be the first time the two men will be wrestling in a standard match in the company.

While the former NJPW star seems to be doing fine despite the injury at the moment, it\’s still an added concern for the AEW management and it would be interesting to see if Omega is able to deliver a performance living up to the hype of his upcoming match with the AEW Champion.

  • Drew McIntyre On Possibly Bringing Back His Old Theme Song

The old \’Broken Dreams\’ theme song of Drew McIntyre is considered to be one of the best themes in the history of the company and many believe that the current WWE Champion should bring it back.

The Scottish superstar recently had an interview with Battleground podcast where he talked about a number of things and also commented on the possibility of bringing back his old theme.

McIntyre explained that the theme is slower-paced compared to his current character but the former NXT champion said that he would like to bring it back for special occasions:

“Personally, I have visions of it coming back for a special occasion and then hopefully releasing it for download because it is talked about all the time. It was such a popular song. I personally think it’s great.

If you look up the ‘Broken Dreams’ lyrics and check the story, it kind of matches my career story, which is interesting. It’s just a little slow for me, right now. I love the bagpipes and war music. It doesn’t quite match the current Drew McIntyre, but I do want to bring it back for special occasions.”

Drew McIntyre recaptured the WWE Championship by defeating Randy Orton in a No Disqualification match during the November 16th edition of Raw.

He is now scheduled to face the Universal Champion \’The Tribal Chief\’ Roman Reigns in a one on one match at the Survivor Series PPV this Sunday night.

Paul Heyman\’s time as the Executive Director of Raw will be remembered for the rise of a younger generation of talent and the wrestling veteran is said to be responsible for bringing talents such as Murphy into the spotlight.

The former ECW owner had an interview with TalkSport.com recently where he talked about a number of things and also opened up about his time as the head of the Red Brand.

Heyman first said that he is one of those people who enjoys the behind the scene aspect of wrestling as he does the on camera aspects. He went on to claim that working as the Executive Director of Raw was a career highlight for him:

“Working as the executive director of RAW was a career highlight for me. I enjoyed every single solitary minute of the job and the biggest reason I enjoyed it so much was because I got to work with so many insanely talented people, such as the names you mentioned.

I’m very proud of your accomplishments and very proud of the individuals themselves for the success that they have all achieved\” said Paul Heyman, \”through the greatness of the performances that they overdelivered.”

Apart from this, the associate of the current Universal Champion Roman Reigns also talked about the WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, calling him \’a god sent to WWE\’ who will always be holding the secondary championship in the company.

Paul Heyman was appointed the Executive Director of Raw in June 2019. He stayed in the role for almost a year before being relieved from the position in June earlier this year.
