WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg recently addressed the real-life friction that once existed between him and Triple H, revealing the two were at odds before he ever signed with WWE.
The WWE Hall of Famer returned to the Going Ringside show with Scott Johnson for his first appearance in years, and the conversation turned to his 2003 WWE run and the World Heavyweight Championship rivalry with Triple H. According to Goldberg, the bad blood predated his arrival in the company.
“We were both represented by the same agent and we had had a confrontation prior to me going to the WWE, and then, oh by the way, he was married to Vince McMahon’s daughter,” Goldberg said.
He framed the situation as a no-win spot, walking into a locker room where he was tied up with a powerful rival who also happened to be married into the McMahon family. In his telling, professionalism is what eventually settled things.
“So it was kind of like me walking into an unwinnable situation,” Goldberg said. “But I think business prevailed and truthfully at the end of the day he’s a good guy.”
The warmer tone follows a rougher stretch between the two. Goldberg wrestled his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event XL on July 12 last year, losing to Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship in Atlanta.
He later criticized WWE over the handling of his send-off, with the broadcast cutting away from his farewell speech, and was spotted liking a social media post that took a shot at Triple H.
Those grievances now read as a closed chapter. Calling Triple H “a good guy” suggests whatever resurfaced around his retirement has cooled.
The same Going Ringside sit-down produced a few other talking points. Goldberg also pushed back on the long-running Meng myth and named Brock Lesnar the best opponent of his career.
