  • The Undertaker Makes Appearance At WWE Super ShowDown

As expected, The Undertaker made an appearance at WWE’s latest pay-per-view event, Super ShowDown.

He did so in the Tuwaiq Mountain Trophy Gauntlet Match that saw Andrade, Bobby Lashley, Erick Rowan, AJ Styles, R-Truth, and Rey Mysterio compete. Once The OC took out Mysterio backstage, we saw footage of Taker lay out Karl Anderson and Gallows before heading out to the ring.

He attacked Styles by hitting a chokeslam then pinned him to not only win the match but to kick off his next feud under the WWE banner.

This was expected as not only was Taker reported to be traveling with the crew to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia earlier this week but WWE also tweeted out a photo of him out of character in the country on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Dave Meltzer was able to confirm that The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles is currently scheduled for the WrestleMania card. The news was first reported by WrestleZone.

It’s also been reported by Pwinsider that The Undertaker is currently scheduled to make an appearance at the March 9 episode of RAW. from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.

This appearance is slated to further the feud with Styles heading into the biggest event of the year for the company.

WWE presents the WrestleMania 36 pay-per-view event on Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Tampa, Florida at the Raymond James Stadium that will air on the WWE Network.

  • WWE NXT Results & 4 Takeaways (2/26)

The February 26, 2020 episode of WWE NXT aired live on the USA Network from the Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University.

The show was headlined by Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair in a singles match.

    WWE NXT Results (2/26/20)

    • Cameron Grimes def. Dominik Dijakovic
    • Xia Li def. Mia Yim
    • Tommaso Ciampa def. Austin Theory
    • Killian Dain def. Bronson Reed
    • Charlotte Flair def. Bianca Belair

Here are the 4 takeaways from this week’s show:

Finn Balor Cuts Done It Promo

    \"Finn
    Finn Balor in NXT

Finn Balor came out to the ring to discuss his future plans following his win over Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: Portland.

He talked about how he builds brands and has done it in Mexico and Japan and he holds lots of titles. He said that everybody is trying to get big before WrestleMania season and that people want to get a rub off of him. He brings up names such as Matt Riddle and Gargano.

This led to members of Imperium coming out and cutting a promo about one thing that he hasn’t done is travel to NXT UK. They say that WALTER, who isn’t there, would like to send his regards.

A brawl broke out with Balor being left laying. It appears that WWE is setting up Balor vs. WALTER for the NXT UK Title at TakeOver: Tampa.

    Dominik Dijakovic vs. Cameron Grimes

    \"\"

A late addition to this show came in the way of Dominik Dijakovic vs. Cameron Grimes in a singles match. WWE announced the contest on Wednesday morning.

It was a nice back and forth affair with both guys having their moments. Clearly, WWE officials are behind Domik and thus the reason that many people thought he would go over in this contest. That isn\’t the case as Damien Priest attacked Dijakovic with a club that played into the finish. Grimes won the match.

The belief was that WWE is keeping him in a feud with NXT North American Champion Keith Lee unless that changes. They’ve had some good matches both in WWE NXT and outside including in PWG.

Grimes continues to be a talent that is lost with a gimmick not working despite being a good worker. Perhaps WWE will repackage him one day but it appears with the push of him on television, he’ll be in this role for the time being.

    Tommaso Ciampa vs. Austin Theory

    \"Tommaso
    Tommaso Ciampa (Photo: WWE)

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Austin Theory was booked and as expected, the former NXT Champion went over.

While the outcome of the match was predictable, it wasn’t a bad thing as it gets Ciampa a win coming off his loss to NXT Champion Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: Portland two weeks ago.

Post-match, Gargano attacked Ciampa and threw him on the TakeOver: Tampa logo. This would signal whee things are going.

This contest was set up last week when Ciampa interrupted Theory’s match in order to cut a promo about Johnny Gargano costing him the NXT Title by turning heel while attacking him.

Theory tried to attack him but Ciampa knocked him down. Ciampa ended the promo then went on an assault of Theory.

That segment and this match was a nice shine for Theory, who is a former EVOLVE Champion. Some think that he has a ton of potential in NXT and someone to keep an eye out for. Whether that happens remains to be seen but for him to be in the ring and in a competitive match with someone like Ciampa is only a positive.

Charlotte Flair Takes On Bianca Belair

    \"Charlotte
    Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair took on Bianca Belair in a singles match on this show in what was the most promoted thing on the episode.

This marked Flair’s first match under the NXT banner in four years. WWE announced the match over the weekend and did it for two reasons. First is due to it helping the ratings as they continue to face and get beat by AEW Dynamite over on TNT.

Also, this was a way to help build Flair’s feud with NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley heading into WrestleMania 36 in April.

A few weeks ago, WWE did a segment where Ripley and Belair laid out Flair. Thus, the reasoning behind the match booking between Flair and Belair. Thus, this was a match that many fans thought could happen and WWE obliged that hope.

The match saw Flair go over an rightfully so as WWE needs to keep Flair strong heading into Mania. Post-match, Flair attacked Belair until Ripley ran down to make the save and Flair backed down.

What will be interesting about this match is the outcome as one could think that Flair isn’t going to be a normal player in the NXT world.

  • Young Bucks Discuss Marty Scurll Staying With ROH

The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) recently did an interview with ComicBook.com where they spoke about Marty Scurll\’s decision to stay with Ring of Honor instead of joining AEW.

Many fans expected Scurll to wind up in All Elite Wrestling after a short run with the NWA but that wasn’t the case.

Nick started things off by noting that they had a feeling Marty was going to stay with ROH three months before the news came out.

“We were kind of feeling him out for a while now and he always was very vague with us, anytime we would bring up storylines and stuff. So, we pretty much got the hint three months ago or so. And we realized, ‘Okay, he’s staying put.’ Good for him, though. And that he knows how we feel, it’s a business.

Yeah, it would’ve been great to have him with us because we’re good friends, but he got a great deal out of it and he seems to be very happy. He’s definitely going to try to paint his path on his own and more respect to him for doing that. We’re all cool though.”

Matt gave his take by noting that Marty got a great offer and he thinks Scurll wanted to be more than just a wrestler and he got an opportunity to do that. He noted that Marty is a clever guy and he’s very talented.

Matt said that he loves him and hopes nothing but the best for him. Matt hopes that Marty can make the place he’s working a better place because he wants wrestling everywhere to succeed because as long as the wrestlers are being taken care of and there are more opportunities for wrestlers in order to support their families.

Matt noted that he thinks the wrestling world needs Ring of Honor to do well.

“I think Marty, if you can pinpoint any person right now that can help them, it’s him. Good on them, and I’m happy for Marty.”

  • Goldberg Sends Message To Bray Wyatt Heading Into Title Match

Goldberg recently did an interview with WWE.com where he spoke about his next match under the WWE banner.

The WWE Hall of Famer is slated to challenge Bray Wyatt for the Universal Title at Thursday’s Super ShowDown pay-per-view event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the Mohammed Abdou Arena.

In the interview, Goldberg sent a warning to Wyatt but did so before he praised him for never being against anybody like him before but he’s here to stand his ground.

He also wants to prove a point and show that no matter what age or what level of fitness you’re in, if you have something in your mind then you can do it. He added that he’s lucky he gets another chance.

“My first Saudi Arabia stint here was less than favorable in a lot of ways and it put me in a place that I’ve never been before and I think part of my reasoning for coming back is to kind wipe that out but I’m taking everything out on The Fiend tomorrow night, and hopefully it’s enough.”

Goldberg was referencing his match against The Undertaker at this same show last year which saw Taker go over after a disappointing match.

There were some botched spots due to miscommunication, the heat inside of the stadium, and Goldberg suffering a concussion.

  • Goldberg Reflects On Wrestling The Undertaker At Super ShowDown

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg did a recent interview where reflected about his first encounter with The Undertaker.

He did so on the Total Slam podcast. The match between Goldberg and The Undertaker took place last year at the WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event.

It had received a ton of criticism from fans as the start of the match was good but it quickly went downhill due to unforeseen circumstances.

\”My match with Taker was the perfect storm with no good. At the end of the day, I was not in the ring for two years. It was 150 degrees. Undertaker and I never worked together before,\” said Goldberg. \”My character is based on realism. My character is based on intensity and sometimes I forget I\’m a little bit older than I used to be and my body is not [the same].

It was a spot over the years that I knocked myself out at times. Why? Because I refuse to do in there something that doesn\’t looks real. If I\’m going to do something, I\’m going to do it 100 percent. If I knocked myself out, so be it, I knocked myself out.”

    Goldberg Reflects On The Match

Goldberg noted that he had to deal with it and it was only his fault because he went too hard. He said that fans can’t fault him for it because he wanted to give the best show possible and make his family and fans proud.

Goldberg noted that he wanted to complete a dream of his and have a good match with Taker, but it doesn\’t always turn out the way you want and unfortunately, it was on TV.

Goldberg continued by noting how everybody saw it but thinks that the match doesn’t defy him as a human being. He admitted that for two weeks he felt bad about it and he thinks they should get a pat on the back for putting ourselves out there at our age and doing the things that we do to entertain the people.

  • Shinsuke Nakamura Shares Injury Update

Shinsuke Nakamura got banged up in his latest match.

On Friday’s episode of SmackDown in Glendale, AZ at the Gila River Arena on FOX, WWE booked a Symphony of Destruction Match, which featured guitars, drums, a piano, and other instruments around the ring in order for stars to use as weapons during the match.

The contest saw Nakamura and Cesaro take on Intercontinental Champion Braun Strowman and Elias with the babyfaces going over.

The finish was Strowman standing on the announce table and hitting his powerslam finisher to Nakamura on the piano, picking up the pinfall victory.

Fans picked up online that Nakamura’s head caught the end of the piano and was bleeding as a result. After the match, WWE\’s medical team checked on Nakamura but no update on his status was given on the show or WWE\’s website.

After the show, Nakamura posted photos of WWE\’s medical team taking care of the wound. He wrote the following in the caption:

\”Don\’t worry. I\’m a tough. But, the piano was toughest. [Braun Strowman] and I couldn\’t beat it.”

  • Goldberg Shares His Feelings About Matt Riddle

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg did a recent interview where he spoke about Matt Riddle.

He did so on the Total Slam podcast about the NXT star, which he has some history with. Throughout the years, Riddle has been critical of the legendary pro wrestler even before Riddle got to NXT.

Goldberg made his feelings known but didn’t rip Riddle as some people may think.

\”Riddle is like a booger stuck in your nose; he is annoying and won\’t go away. He has no influence on Goldberg\’s life. Period. End of story. It\’s the wrestling business and sometimes when you\’re out in public you may run into a former foe and you can never know how the situation will turn out. It is what it is, and we don\’t see eye to eye.\”

It turns out that they ran into each other while backstage at SummerSlam last year. Riddle actually talked about it on the SummerSlam Watch Along Livestream and WWE has released footage of it since then.

Most notably, Riddle was critical of Goldberg’s performance against The Undertaker in a singles match at the WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 2019.

  • Women’s Title Match Officially Announced For WWE Super ShowDown

A new match has been announced for the upcoming WWE Super ShowDown PPV and it involves women.

On Friday’s episode of SmackDown, WWE booked a match between Carmella and Naomi with the winner being crowned the new #1 contender for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

As seen on the show, Naomi ended up winning the contest and now she’ll challenge Bayley for the strap at this PPV event. This comes after a few weeks of building up to it.

First up was two weeks ago on an episode of SmackDown where a Fatal Four-Way match was booked. Carmella ended up winning the contest.

Last week, she lost to Bayley for the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship. After the match, Naomi ran out to make the save for Carmella. Thus, it set up this latest #1 contender match.

WWE presents the Super ShowDown pay-per-view event on Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the Mohammed Abdou Arena that will air on the WWE Network.

  • Update On Cain Velasquez’s WWE Status

Fans have been wondering where things stand with Cain Velasquez since the last time they saw him on WWE programming.

Velasquez successfully had his knee scoped recently and is feeling completely healthy, according to a recent report by Wrestling Inc.

Per the report, he was seen at WWE’s training facility, WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, to get more reps in the ring while awaiting his next match. He’s set to be there for the next two weeks.

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion did an interview with SunSport last month where he stated that he would work the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. At this same time, there were reports about this as well.

However, he didn’t work the show. Cain getting his knee scoped could be a reason why. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on when he’ll work his next match under the WWE banner.

Velasquez lost his debut match under the WWE banner when he faced WWE Champion Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel.

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion most recently worked a tag team match in Mexico at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico for a house show back in November.

  • Details On WWE Negotiating With ESPN For Potential Streaming Deal

WWE could land a new streaming deal with ESPN if things go well in negotiations.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the talks would be in regards to WWE content airing on the ESPN+ service. WWE saw what the UFC did with ESPN and now is looking to get a similar deal, per the report.

This potential deal if reached would see WWE sell their rights to air pay-per-views on ESPN+ in order to get more money than what they earn through the WWE Network.

This potential deal to air PPV events on ESPN+ could also potentially bring more mainstream exposure to WWE\’s big events and their biggest Superstars. The UFC has been heavily covered on ESPN networks since inking their deal.

    WWE Partnership With ESPN

As of this writing, there\’s no word yet on how far the talks with ESPN are. The report did note that it looks like the deal has not been agreed on as of this week.

Earlier this month, there were rumors that WWE was possibly talking to Amazon about selling content rights to them but have since been dismissed. ESPN isn’t the only player that WWE has been talking with as they had talks with other potential partners.

These partners include DAZN and NBC\’s Peacock service. The belief is that the Peacock service will launch later this year and some think this would be the best bet for WWE.

TV industry sources recently told Meltzer that Peacock would look at WWE to be its key initial programming to draw subscribers from the launch moving forward. Thus, it would be very similar to how ESPN+ did with UFC.

Since the subscription numbers for the WWE Network continue to decrease, WWE would be able to get significantly guaranteed money for their big-money events, instead of relying on their own service for revenue.

  • Big Name Not Scheduled For WWE WrestleMania 36, Latest Card

The card for WrestleMania 36 is starting to take shape but this year’s show will not feature one future WWE Hall of Famer.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Triple H is not scheduled for the show. If he doesn’t work then it will be the first time since WrestleMania 23 that Triple H has not wrestled at the event.

As previously reported, Ronda Rousey and WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg are currently not scheduled for WrestleMania 36. It was also noted that there are plans for six different women\’s matches to be featured on the card.

Female matches on the card include Shayna Baszler vs. RAW Women\’s Champion Becky Lynch, Naomi vs. SmackDown Women\’s Champion Bayley, the 3rd annual WrestleMania Women\’s Battle Royal, a tag team match with WWE Women\’s Tag Team Champions Asuka and Kairi Sane, and another match to be named.

The 7th annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal is also set to take place this year. There\’s also no word on what Sheamus and Daniel Bryan will be doing. The belief is that there will be a blow-off to the feud with Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins.
