  • John Cena Comments On His SmackDown Return, Bray Wyatt Match

John Cena has broken his silence on not only his WWE return but also his next match.

The former WWE Champion made an appearance on last Friday’s episode of SmackDown on FOX in Boston, MA at the TD Garden in the final segment.

The lights went out then back on with The Fiend standing behind him and pointing at the WrestleMania sign. Cena tipped his hat and The Fiend disappeared to close the show. Now, he\’ll take on Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36.

Cena took to his official Twitter account on Monday evening where he issued his first public comments. Cena wrote the following:

\”Want to thank @WWEonFOX and more importantly @WWEUniverse for such an emotional experience on #Smackdown,\” Cena wrote. \”I went to Boston to say \’goodbye\’ but realized that no matter where life takes me, @WWE is always home. Now, onto #WrestleMania!\”

As of this writing, there\’s no word yet on when Cena will return to SmackDown.

Although not confirmed, the belief is that he should make at least a few more appearances to build to the big match in the coming weeks.

  • The Street Profits Win WWE RAW Tag Team Titles

After a few different tries, The Street Profits have fulfilled their dream of becoming the WWE RAW Tag Team Champions.

Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins did so when they dethroned Seth Rollins and Murphy to win the titles on Monday’s episode of RAW in Brooklyn, NY at the Barclays Center on the USA Network.

The finish saw Kevin Owens take out Rollins that led to the AOP chasing after him and Dawkins hitting a frog splash off the top rope to Rollins for the victory. This marks the first time that they have held the titles together.

This was a rematch that saw Rollins and Murphy retain the titles over The Street Profits at the WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the Mohammed Abdou Arena on the WWE Network last week.

Rollins and Murphy beat Ivar and Erik to win the WWE RAW Tag Team Titles on January 20th episode of RAW in Wichita, KS at the Intrust Bank Arena.

Matt Hardy’s First Post-WWE Appearance, Coronavirus Hits WrestleMania Host City & More

  • Matt Hardy Teaser Featured In Being The Elite, His Response To WWE’s Statement

After months of speculation as to what Matt Hardy will do when his contract with WWE expires, he made his decision and now there\’s a new AEW teaser.

Early Monday morning, the longtime pro wrestler announced via YouTube that he would indeed not re-sign with WWE. Instead, he would hit the free-agent market.

While there have been rumblings that he could return to WWE should a new deal get reached, there’s also been speculation that he could be headed to All Elite Wrestling.

    Matt Hardy Teaser

This is something that was teased during the latest episode of Being The Elite. Near the end of the episode, Matt Jackson got a call from a 910 area code. This is the code for North Carolina, which is where Hardy lives.

The person on the phone asked him to go somewhere and Matt agreed to do so before hanging up. Matt told his brother, Nick, it looks like they aren\’t going home quite yet, they gotta make a quick stop.

WWE also issued a statement on Hardy’s departure from the company:

Matt Hardy’s contract with WWE has expired.

A trailblazer throughout his 19-year WWE career, Matt and his brother Jeff pioneered the first tag team Ladder and TLC Matches in WWE, stealing the show at WrestleMania on several occasions. Matt, who competed in his first WWE match in 1994, captured nine tag team titles with Jeff, in addition to two other reigns with MVP and Bray Wyatt.

He is also a former ECW, United States, European, Cruiserweight and Hardcore champion, and he won the Fifth Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34.

But Matt is perhaps most revered for the uncanny connection he has cultivated with the WWE Universe over the years, even as his character has transformed. From a gravity-defying daredevil willing to take any and all risks to becoming one of the most eccentric personas ever seen as “Woken” Matt Hardy, all incarnations had one thing in common — the adoration of WWE fans.

WWE thanks Matt Hardy for his contributions to sports-entertainment and the WWE Universe and wishes him the best in his future endeavors

Hardy took to his official Twitter account where he gave his response to their statement:

  • Jon Moxley Wins AEW World Title At Revolution

Jon Moxley was the wrestler to dethrone Chris Jericho as AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

Jericho didn\’t successfully retain the title over Moxley but rather Moxley ended the reign of Jericho in the headliner of the AEW Revolution pay-per-view event in Chicago, IL from the Sears Center. Up to this point, Moxley had been portrayed as a top star and now he\’s a champion.

AEW set up this contest on the January 22nd episode of Dynamite when Moxley faced off with PAC in the headliner with the winner challenging Jericho for the title at Revolution. Moxley ended up winning the match to earn the opportunity.

Moxley has been the #1 contender in the men’s rankings for quite some time now and also been feuding with Jericho over the last few months.

In fact, at first, Jericho tried to recruit Moxley to his Inner Circle group. The faction consists of Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana, Ortiz, and Jeff Cobb.

Jericho became the inaugural AEW World Heavyweight Champion when he beat Hangman Page in the headliner of the All Out pay-per-view event back in August at the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago.

  • AEW Announces \’Blood & Guts\’ Episode of Dynamite feat. Double Ring Cage Match

All Elite Wrestling has announced the next special themed episode of AEW Dynamite.

During the AEW Revolution pay-per-view event in Chicago, IL, it was revealed that the March 25th episode of Dynamite will carry a special theme, Blood & Guts, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

It was also revealed in the announcement through the way of a video package that one giant covered cage with two rings for WarGames-like match.

The theme of the show is a reference to what WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon had to say during an earnings call with media outlets when questioned about AEW last July.

At the time, McMahon stated that WWE will not \”do blood and guts and things of that nature, such as what is being done on our new potential competitor.\”

The first-ever Steel Cage match under the AEW banner came earlier this month when Cody Rhodes beat Wardlow as part of his stipulations set out by Chris Jericho.

Cody Rhodes & Young Bucks On Orignal Name For TNT Show, Initial Meeting With Chris Jericho

  • MJF Beats Cody Rhodes At AEW Revolution

Cody Rhodes vs. MJF finally happened.

Rhodes didn\’t go over MJF as he got his revenge at Saturday’s AEW Revolution pay-per-view event in Chicago, IL. The finish saw MJF counter a third Cross Rhodes by hitting Cody in the face with a diamond ring for the win.

The promotion finally announced the match after the February 19th episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT in Atlanta, GA when Rhodes beat Wardlow in a Steel Cage match.

This comes after Rhodes completed all of the stipulations that MJF demanded. These stips included lashing Cody and Rhodes beating Wardlow.

After months of MJF acting like he was Rhodes’ friend, he turned on the fan-favorite last November.

Chris Jericho retained as AEW World Heavyweight Championship over Rhodes in the main event of the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view event.

The stipulation coming into this title match last November was the fact that if Cody didn’t beat Jericho then he would never allow himself to challenge for the AEW World Title again.

MJF threw in the towel while Jericho had Cody in the Walls of Jericho, which resulted in the finish. After the match, MJF kicked him in the nuts and stood over Cody. Since then, the two had been exchanging words to build to this moment.

  • Kenny Omega & Adam Page Retain AEW Tag Team Titles At Revolution

Kenny Omega and Adam Page will, in fact, keep the AEW Tag Team Titles.

Omega and Page took on The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view event. This is where Omega and Page successfully retained the titles over the fan-favorite tag team.

AEW booked a Tag Team Battle Royal on the February 19 episode of Dynamite in Atlanta, GA. The stipulation going into the match was that the winners would become the new #1 contenders for the straps.

The Young Bucks vs. SCU vs. Private Party vs. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus vs. Best Friends vs. Santana & Ortiz vs. The Butcher & The Blade vs. Jack Evans & Angelico vs. Alex Reynolds & John Silver vs. Cima & Michael Nakazawa were featured in the match.

The Young Bucks ended up winning the contest. Thus, earning the right to challenge for the AEW Tag Team Titles against Page and Omega at AEW Revolution.

Page and Omega beat SCU for the titles on the January 22nd episode of AEW Dynamite that was taped the night in the Bahamas on the Ship of Jericho on TNT.

  • Jake Hager Wins His AEW In-Ring Debut At Revolution

Jake Hager vs. Dustin Rhodes is in the books.

As seen at Saturday’s AEW Revolution pay-per-view event in Chicago, IL, Hager beat Rhodes in this contest that marked his in-ring debut with All Elite Wrestling.

In order to build up to this match, AEW had to lay some back story between Rhodes and Hager, formerly known as Jack Swagger from his time in WWE.

During the build-up for the AEW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho-Cody Rhodes match last year heading into Full Gear, Rhodes took a beat down from Hager.

AEW did an angle where Rhodes’ arm was broken after Hager smashed it in a car door.

It was revealed that Hager had signed with the promotion when he made his on the October 2, 2019 episode of AEW Dynamite from Washington, D.C., at the famed Capital One Arena on TNT.

On this show, Jericho, Santana, and Ortiz beat The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega in a six-man tag team match. After the contest, Hager walked out and helped the heels beatdown the babyfaces.

He’s been aligned with the heel group, named The Inner Circle, on television since then.

  • John Cena Returns On SmackDown, Starts WrestleMania Feud

John Cena made his long-awaited return to WWE television.

The former WWE Champion did so on Friday’s episode of SmackDown on FOX in Boston, MA at the TD Garden. As seen on the show, Cena closed the show with a promo about how he needs to answer the question of what he\’s doing at WrestleMania 36.

Cena made it known that he always will be a WWE star. He said that he\’s doing something different because he knows how hard the WWE stars work for one moment at Mania. He said that WrestleMania should go on without him because it\’s the right thing to do.

Cena stated that he\’s not going away but doesn\’t know when he\’ll be back. Cena says WrestleMania should be earned not demanded. Cena put the microphone down and walked up to the stage.

The lights went out then back on with The Fiend standing behind him and pointing at the WrestleMania sign. Cena tipped his hat and The Fiend disappeared to close the show.

Dave Meltzer was initially able to confirm earlier this month that not only will Cena wrestle at WrestleMania 36 but he’ll be wrestling Elias. WWE thinks that Elias will “get the rub from losing to Cena.”

However, that was later changed and reported that Cena would be feuding with Wyatt that would ultimately lead to a match between the two stars at WWE\’s biggest event of the year, WrestleMania 36.

  • Cody Rhodes & Young Bucks On Orignal Name For TNT Show, Initial Meeting With Chris Jericho

Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) took part in a panel at C2E2 on Friday where they talked about a wide range of topics.

Matt talked about how they were originally going to announce just one show on New Year’s Eve but things changed once the AEW trademarks leaked they decided to announce the whole promotion. They all recalled how miserably cold that night in Tokyo was when they filmed the announcement vignette.

Matt and Cody recalled how one of their original AEW signings took place at the TGIF.

Also, their gathering to do the Jacksonville rally was Tony Khan’s idea. Matt recalled getting ready to go to Disney World with his family but Tony told him to cut the vacation short and sent a private jet.

Originally, AEW’s weekly television show on TNT was going to be called AEW Revolution but Khan had always envisioned the show being called Dynamite so they saw through his vision. Matt added that Dynamite resonated better than Revolution, according to tests they did.

Cody brought up how AEW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho wanted a serious meeting with them early before he signed.

Thus, they invited him to a TGIF in Japan. They got the “backstage” private room and Cody noted Jericho seemed underwhelmed by the meeting.

  • WWE Makes Changes To Top WrestleMania 36 Matches

WWE continues to make changes to the card for its biggest event of the year, WrestleMania 36.

The current plan is to have John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns vs. WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. Dave Meltzer noted the news on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio.

Wyatt vs. Reigns and Cena vs. Elias was reportedly scheduled for the show but news broke earlier this week that those matches were going to be changed but there wasn’t any word on the new opponents for these stars at the time.

At the time, Meltzer also noted that “five or six” WrestleMania matches in total have changed recently. Most of them are only on the SmackDown brand side of the card.

Fast forward to today’s WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event, Goldberg beat Wyatt to become the new Universal Champion.

WWE has already confirmed that Cena is returning to SmackDown this Friday with the belief that he’ll start his feud heading into WrestleMania on this show.

The following is an updated look at the rumored card WrestleMania:

    • WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre
    • Universal Champion Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns
    • John Cena vs. \”The Fiend\” Bray Wyatt
    • The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles
    • Edge vs Randy Orton

WWE presents the WrestleMania 36 pay-per-view event on Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Tampa, Florida at the Raymond James Stadium that will air on the WWE Network. WWE will be announcing more matches for WrestleMania in the coming weeks.

  • Goldberg Dethrones Bray Wyatt As Universal Champion At WWE Super ShowDown

After weeks of speculation, WWE Universal Champion Bray Wyatt, portraying The Fiend, vs. Goldberg took place.

As seen at Thursday’s WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Goldberg ended up going over on Wyatt. This marked Goldberg’s first match of 2020 and his second reign as Universal Champion.

This match was booked on the February 7th episode of Friday Night SmackDown in San Jose, CA at the SAP Center on FOX when Goldberg made an appearance.

He talked about never getting a rematch for when he lost the Universal Title. He then issued a challenge to Wyatt. This is when Wyatt appeared in a Firefly Funhouse segment to accept the challenge.

Goldberg worked last year’s Super ShowDown show in the country where he battled The Undertaker. The match had received a ton of criticism from fans. The start of the match was good but it quickly went downhill due to unforeseen circumstances.

Thus, almost one year later, Goldberg was looking to right the wrongs that were made and did so.

  • Brock Lesnar Retains WWE Title At Super ShowDown

Brock Lesnar will remain the WWE Champion as he successfully retained the belt in his latest title defense.

He did so when he beat rising WWE star Ricochet in a championship match at the WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event. This was a squash match to the fullest as Ricochet never connected with a move.

WWE set up this contest when they booked a #1 contender’s match on the February 3rd episode of RAW in Salt Lake City, UT at the Vivint Smart Home Arena on the USA Network. This Triple Threat contest saw Ricochet, Seth Rollins, and Bobby Lashley battle it out.

As seen in the match, Ricochet ended up winning and becoming the new #1 contender for the top title on RAW.

As a result, he earned the opportunity to challenge “The Beast” for the WWE Title at WWE’s latest event.

WWE has already confirmed that Lesnar will defend the title against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36 on Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Tampa, Florida at the Raymond James Stadium.

  • John Morrison & The Miz Win SmackDown Tag Team Titles At WWE Super ShowDown

The New Day won\’t be staying on top of the SmackDown Tag Team Division as John Morrison and The Miz dethroned them.

At Thursday’s WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the King Fahd International Stadium on the WWE Network, Morrison and The Miz beat The New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston) to win the titles.

Starting last month, Miz and Morrison began feuding with The New Day (Big E and Kingston). Morrison would defeat Kingston and Big E on the January 17th and January 24th episodes of SmackDown.

Eventually, on the January 31 episode of SmackDown, Morrison and Miz defeated Heavy Machinery (Otis and Tucker), Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado), and The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) in a fatal four-way tag team match. With this win, they earned a championship match at Super ShowDown.

Time will tell whether WWE continues this feud or goes into a different direction heading into the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event next month.
