  • Vince McMahon Among Top Executives Not Backstage At WWE Raw

Several major executives are absent backstage for Monday\’s episode of WWE Raw in Detroit, MI. Pwinsider.com reports Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard, Kevin Dunn, Michael Hayes, and Adam Pearce are not at the show from the Little Caesars Arena.

John Laurinaitis and Ed Koskey are running things backstage. Triple H is usually in charge if McMahon isn’t at the show, but he’s been away for months after suffering a cardiac situation.

WWE has been dealing with the ripple effects of the COVID-19 outbreak within the company among talent, staff, and employees over the last week. Several producers are out so WWE is working with a limited staff.

As previously reported, several wrestlers were pulled from Sunday’s house shows in Tampa in New York City. Some talent has been pulled due to them testing positive for the virus while others are on the sidelines because they’ve been in contact with someone who has the virus.

WWE has yet to announce changes to the Day 1 PPV card this Saturday, but it’s possible although the company is said to be remaining hopeful the show will go on as planned.

  • WWE No Longer Requiring COVID-19 Testing For Talent

WWE started dealing with the latest COVID-19 outbreak last week that impacted their house shows beginning on Sunday night. Fightful Select is reporting that WWE has informed talent that COVID-19 testing is no longer required.

The Performance Center talent was informed of the news this past weekend while WWE main roster talent was told through an email. It is not known if there is a vaccination qualifier to that or not. NXT talent had been getting tested twice a week while main roster talent had only been tested once a week.

WWE’s show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday had both main events changed as most of the wrestlers in the matches were removed. This included  Big E vs. Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins in a triple threat match for the WWE title being changed to a cage match between  Owens and Edge.

A match between Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Title never took place. Roman Reigns ended up being pulled from the house show in Tampa, Florida.

A number of WWE producers are not at Raw due to COVID-19 protocols. WWE is remaining hopeful to keep the original Day 1 card in place ahead of Saturday’s show.

  • WWE NXT 2.0 Results (12/21): AJ Styles Appears, Street Fight

    • Raquel Gonzalez def. Dakota Kai.
    • The Grizzled Young Veterans vs. The Creed Brothers ended in an apparent no-contest
    • Dexter Lumis def. Trick Williams.
    • Edris Enofe defeated Von Wagner
    • Io Shirai def. Elektra Lopez.
    • Pete Dunne def. Tony D\’Angelo.

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

    Tommaso Ciampa Opens

    \"\"

Tommaso Ciampa opened the show with a promo in the ring about how being NXT Champion means you are the hunted. However, he’s different and he does the hunting. He said last week, Bron Breaker was the hunted. He said Bron should come out to the ring because he wants to say something to him. Bron came out and Ciampa said Bron wants a title match on January 4th at New Year’s Evil. Ciampa said that Bron does need the title and hopes he doesn’t drown in opportunity. He said that Bron will get that chance. He put Bron over. Ciampa said Bron isn’t ready to be a champion in his NXT. Ciampa slapped him and said that the reality will slap him in the face and it’s him. Bron lifted him up then slowly put him down. Bron said he’s a shark and he’s going to eat Ciampa alive in two weeks.

    AJ Styles Appearance

    \"\"

AJ Styles made an appearance on this show after a video that NXT\’s Grayson Waller posted on social media over the weekend.

In the video, Waller stated that The Miz should have better Miz TV guests than Styles and that while he loved AJ as a kid, Styles is hanging on too long in his career. He mocked Styles\’ haircut and called him out for riding Omos\’ coattails. He called himself \”The Phenomenal Grayson Waller.\”

So what happened? Waller laid out Dexter Lumis, who had just worked a match. Waller cut a promo about how when he gets inducted into the Hall of Fame, he’s going to tell the fans he told them he was going to be great. Styles came out to the ring. Styles told Waller to shut up and said Waller is the biggest jackass in NXT. Waller wants to know why AJ was there and he knows because Omos left him on Monday’s Raw so he needs someone to make him relevant. AJ pointed out how Waller called him out and how Waller wants to be like him. AJ questions whether Waller can be a WWE star. AJ wanted him to attack him, but Waller backed down. He said he’s going to let Omos get him first then he will get what’s left.

    Trick Williams vs. Dexter Lumis

    \"\"

Trick Williams vs. Dexter Lumis in a singles match was booked. A short match with Lumis going over with his finisher.

Lumis, who had been aligned with Johnny Gargano, has been feuding with Williams and NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes for the last several months. With Gargano leaving WWE after not renewing his WWE deal, it has left Lumis on his own.

    Street Fight

    \"\"

WWE booked a Street Fight between Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez. The match started in the backstage area before going to the ring area. Various weapons were used.

Raquel hit a powerbomb on the steel steps before hitting a powerbomb onto a trash can for the win.

Last week, Kai lost to Cora Jade. Post-match, Kai attacked Jade until Raquel ran down to make the save. Raquel and Kai later brawled into the parking lot. Later in the show, Raquel cut a promo where she said their friendship was positive, but realizes now that she needs to end Kai. She then issued the challenge.

This feud dates back to July when Kai turned on Raquel. Gonzalez defeated Kai at NXT TakeOver 36 in August to retain the Women’s Title. Kai made her return at Halloween Havoc and caused Gonzalez to lose the title to Mandy Rose. Fast forward to WarGames, Mandy Rose. Gonzalez, Jade, Io Shirai & Kay Lee Ray defeated Kai, Rose, Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne.

After the Street Fight, Raquel called out Rose for a title match. Jade came out instead and said that she knows Rose doesn’t want to face her. Jade threw out the idea to take out Toxic Attraction. Rose appeared on the big screen while in a pool. This is where it was revealed that Rose will defend the title against Jade and Raquel at New Year’s Evil.

    Von Wagner In Action

    \"\"

Von Wagner was in action this week against Edris Enofe, who actually pinned Wagner as Von was distracted by Robert Stone who stood on the rampway. Von took out Edris after the match. Von shoulder checked Stone when walking past him.

Wagner had been in a tag team with Kyle O’Reilly, which started around the time that Wagner made his debut. After falling short at NXT WarGames in an attempt to become tag team champions, Von turned heel and tried to attack Kyle, but Kyle laid him out. The following Tuesday, they worked a steel cage match that ended with O’Reilly being laid out by Von to write him off television as his contract expired.

  • Big Title Matches Confirmed For WWE NXT New Year’s Evil

WWE has started to announce some of the matches that will be featured on the New Year’s Evil edition of WWE NXT 2.0 on January 4th.

During Tuesday’s episode of the show, it was confirmed that Tommaso Ciampa will defend the NXT Title against Bron Breakker while Mandy Rose will put her Women’s Title on the line against Cora Jade and Raquel Gonzalez in a triple threat match.

Regarding the likely main event of this show, Ciampa first beat Bron to retain the title at Halloween Havoc. Ciampa called out Breakker and predicted that the young star would ask for a championship opportunity. Ciampa told Breakker that he hopes he doesn\’t drown again because he doesn’t think Bron is ready to be a champion in his NXT. He mocked the Steiner family, which led to Bron picking Ciampa up and then putting him down before telling him that there was blood in the water and he’s the shark is coming to feast.

As far as the women’s match goes, Rose defeated Gonzalez to win the NXT Women\’s Championship at Halloween Havoc with the help of Dakota Kai. On Tuesday\’s show, Jade stated that she wanted a title match while Raquel said she would go through anyone to get her belt back.

Rose appeared on the big screen and threw out the match challenge. Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne then attacked the babyfaces.

  • Tony Khan Confirms AEW Battle Of The Belts Length

AEW is slated to hold its first quarterly special on TNT on January 8th, Battle of the Belts, from the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC.

AEW President Tony Khan has confirmed the length of the show after there had been speculation regarding whether it would be a one-hour or two-hour broadcast.

Dave Meltzer previously noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the show was expected to be about an hour-long on television and that’s the case. Khan confirmed the news during an appearance on Culture State.

\”It\’s a one-hour show. It\’s a one-hour event, so I can\’t put every belt on the line. It\’s a great chance on a Saturday night to expand the reach of AEW by giving the fans great championship matches on a Saturday night, which is a night people love watching wrestling, especially for a big event. There is going to be big championship matches. I\’m very excited about it.”

AEW made it official this past Friday night on Rampage that Britt Baker will defend her AEW Women\’s Championship against Riho at Battle of the Belts. More matches will be announced in the coming weeks.

  • Tony Khan Calls Out Fox News Over AEW TV Ratings Article

Tony Khan has given his reaction to an article published by Fox News that brought up the Jacksonville Jaguars firing Urban Meyer as their head coach as well as AEW’s television ratings.

The article claimed that the Jaguars team owner and Tony’s father, Shad Khan,  had a “rough 15 days of December” with the Meyer situation and AEW ratings “cooling off” since the big talent signings such as Bryan Danielson and CM Punk. The media outlet doesn’t cover pro wrestling very often and there’s no history of them covering AEW’s television ratings.

While Dynamite ratings have dropped off as of late compared to where they had been, the partial reason for that is due to the west coast feed airing the show live at 5 pm because of NHL coverage. Also, while the overnight ratings have been down, AEW’s DVR numbers continue to be strong.

Khan took to Twitter to give his reaction and first wrote, “Hey @FoxNews it’s amusing hearing you opining about @AEW ratings considering #AEWDynamite on Wednesday has beaten EVERY single @FoxNews show for 6 straight weeks! Here are the recent charts (including this week) to prove it. See you TONIGHT on @TNTdrama10pmET/9pmCT @ #AEWRampage.”

He followed up with a second tweet: “Thanks @FoxNews, I appreciate that you’ve highlighted @AEW ratings when #AEWDynamite on Wednesdays has beaten EVERY single show on your network for 6 straight weeks. Here are a few more charts, Twitter only let me attach 4 weeks worth to my last tweet! See you TONIGHT #AEWRampage”

The AEW President also shared charts from ShowBuzz Daily that shows AEW regularly beats Fox News programming in the key demo.

  • Danielson & Page go to 60-Minute Draw at AEW Winter Is Coming

The highly anticipated match between Bryan Danielson and Adam Page took place on the special Winter is Coming episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday night as “Hangman” made his first title defense as AEW World Heavyweight Champion against the former WWE star.

The match from Garland, Texas at the Curtis Culwell Center opened the show and went to an-hour draw, which means Page retained the title and this leads to the possibility of a rematch happening.

Danielson dominated the early parts of the match before Page made a comeback including a moonsault off the top rope to the floor. Page got busted open after being sent into the ring post. Page did take a dive from the top rope through a table on the floor.

    https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1471297938706112512

Page won the AEW World Championship from Kenny Omega at the Full Gear pay-per-view on November 13 while at the same event, Danielson defeated Miro in the finals of an AEW World title eliminator tournament. Because Danielson won this tournament, he earned a title match.

Page earned the shot at the title to make him champion by winning a Casino Ladder Match on Dynamite\’s second anniversary episode on October 6th. At last year’s Winter is Coming, Omega defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW World title and held it until losing to Page at Full Gear.

Danielson joined AEW in September after making the decision to not re-sign with WWE and he made his promotional debut at the All Out PPV event.

    \"\"

WWE had been advertising that Grayson Waller would answer for his actions on thai show after he attacked Johnny Gargano as he gave his farewell speech to the NXT brand on last week’s show.

The angle was done to write Gargano off television as his contract expired on December 10th. He is officially a free agent.

Waller cut a promo in the ring about Gargano’s speech and how the fans didn’t help Gargano when he got attacked. He showed footage of his attack on Gargano. He said he ended the career of an NXT legend and touted his week while the fans just complained about him like they always do. He showed off tweets from angry fans as well as a tweet sent out by Wade Barrett. He said that since 2010, he couldn’t care what Barrett has to say about him. He said he doesn’t need anyone except himself to go to the top.

    Non-Title Bout

    \"\"

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong vs. Bron Breakker in a non-title match took place.

The match was made after Strong\’s manager Malcolm Bivens interrupted Breakker on last week’s show. Bivens said Breakker may have his sights set on Ciampa, but Strong\’s sights are on Breakker. Bron stated he doesn\’t care who he has to run through to get another title match against Tommaso Ciampa. Their first match happened at Halloween Havoc this October that saw Ciampa retain the NXT Championship.

This was the main event. Bron took a nasty table bump during it. It was a fun match with power moves by Bron and technical style of Strong. Bron won with his finisher. Post-match, Ciampa planted him with a DDT on the title.

    No Holds Barred Match

    \"\"

Cameron Grimes vs. Duke Hudson in a No Holds Barred match was booked.

This appears to be the blowoff match for this feud that has been going on for a while and all started when Grimes beat Hudson in a poker game. At WarGames, Grimes beat him in a hair vs. hair match which resulted in Hudson getting a haircut.

The match featured them using various weapons such as a kendo stick, chairs, and even Grimes going through a poker table. Grimes avoided some clippers and hit his finisher while Hudson was sitting on a chair.

    Harland’s In-Ring Debut

    \"\"

Harland made his in-ring debut against Guru Raaj. Harland beat down this poor guy before hitting his powerslam finisher. After the match, he further beat him down.

Harland, real name Parker Boudreaux, debuted on NXT this October and is aligned with Joe Gacy, who just lost to  NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong at WarGames.

Harland refers to himself as ‘The Next Big Thing’ and has been praised by Paul Heyman because he resembles Brock Lesnar.

    Cora Jade vs. Dakota Kai

    \"\"

Cora Jade vs. Dakota Kai in a singles match took place. This was a rematch from last month where Kai defeated Jade in their first meeting.

At WarGames, Jade, Io Shirai, Raquel Gonzalez & Kay Lee Ray defeated Kai & Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) in the women\’s WarGames match when Jade pinned Jayne to get the win. Jade overcame a storyline shoulder injury that she suffered during the match.

Last week, Jade appeared with her arm in a sling and interrupted Toxic Attraction after Mandy Rose had mentioned her name. Raquel Gonzalez then made her way out with a steel chair to back up Jade.

Rose was on commentary for the match. Kai went to get a shuffle and when she got into the ring, Jade rolled her up for the win. Post-match, Kai attacked her until Raquel came out to make the save. Raquel brawled with her through the crowd. Rose laid out Jade.

  • WWE Day 1 Updated Card: Lynch vs. Morgan Set, Lashley Added To Title Match

Liv Morgan’s challenge for a rematch at the WWE Day 1 pay-per-view event against Becky Lynch with the Raw Women’s Title was accepted by the champion on Monday’s episode of Raw.

They just main evented last week’s episode of Raw when Lynch used the ring rope to secure leverage for her pin to retain the title. On this week’s show, Lynch was confronted by Morgan.

Although Lynch declined, a brawl broke out with Lynch getting the advantage on the outside and putting Morgan’s arm between the ring steps and the ring post before stomping it on. Lynch then accepted the challenge if Morgan still wanted it.

  • Matt Hardy: WWE May Have ‘Jumped The Gun’ by Releasing Jeff Hardy

Matt Hardy addressed the status of his brother, Jeff Hardy, who was released by WWE last week, during a stream on his Twitch account.

Matt stated that he is not worried about his brother and WWE \”may have jumped the gun\” in releasing Jeff, who was sent home by the company after a house show in Edinburg, Texas on December 4 before ultimately releasing him on December 9th.

\”Before anyone rushes to judgment, obviously they [WWE] drug tested him after all this stuff, wait until you hear the results of that and when that comes back clean then hopefully people will feel better about it. They [WWE] felt like they were backed into a corner because of his [Jeff\’s] history. Even though they may have jumped the gun with this a little bit, they made a decision and it is what it is.”

Matt stated WWE did ask Jeff to go to rehab, but Jeff Jeff refused because he did not think he needed to go. \”And I don\’t think he did either,\” Hardy stated. Fightful was the first to report that Hardy was let go and also refused help.

\”Jeff is in the best place I\’ve seen him in a very long time,\” said Matt. \”As far as the details of what went down on that evening, and in that match, I\’ve talked with Jeff, I feel good about everything he said and that\’s Jeff\’s story to share. And he told me he will when he\’s ready to.\”

Matt and Reby Hardy said they have talked to Jeff about starting a Twitch channel to show off his music and art. Jeff was said to be excited to start doing Cameo video messages, and that the two would like to do more Final Deletion-style matches together.

Jeff nor WWE has yet to publicly comment on the departure, although his wife, Beth, did issue a brief statement.

    • Toxic Attraction (Jacy Jayne & Gigi Dolin) (w/Mandy Rose) def. Valentina Feroz & Yulisa Leon.

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

Bron Breakker Has Something To Say

    \"\"

Team 2.0 (Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller, and Tony D\’Angelo) (with Trick Williams) defeated Team Black & Gold (Johnny Gargano, LA Knight, Pete Dunne, and Tommaso Ciampa) in a WarGames match this past Sunday night.

On this show, Breakker came out to the ring for a promo. He said he has a lot of respect for Team Black & Gold. However, he wants Ciampa for the NXT Championship since they’ve both beaten each other in the past.

This led to Diamond Mine coming out and Bivens calling him Lebron. He congratulated him on being the real deal, but he’s not the only one successful at WarGames. Bivens said Roderick Strong has no more challengers in the cruiserweight division and he’s lifting the weight restrictions. Bivens said Strong gave Team Black & Gold the blueprint of how to build it. Bivens said Strong has sights set on Bron. Bivens said next week, Strong will put a stop to Breakker. Bron accepted the challenge.

    Xyon Quinn vs. Santos Escobar

    \"\"

Xyon Quinn vs. Santos Escobar in a singles match took place. The match was saved as technically the main event. Escobar was in control of the majority of it. Elektra Lopez put brass knuckles on the hand of Quinn, who hit Joaquin Wilde with it and allowed Santos to hit his finisher for the win.

Quinn and Escobar have been feuding in recent weeks. It all started when Escobar returned to join with the rest of the stable (Wilde and Raul Mendoza) in attacking Quinn following a match against Andre Chase.

Last week, Lopez met Quinn in the parking lot as he was walking by and wished him luck as he would need it.

    Johnny Gargano Speaks

    \"\"

As promised, Johnny Gargano addressed his future on this show as his contract was set to expire on December 10th. His deal was originally going to expire on December 3, but Gargano agreed to a short-term extension.

This was expected after NXT WarGames went off the air on Sunday, Gargano stated that he would tell all on this show. At WarGames, Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Pete Dunne & LA Knight lost to Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D\’Angelo & Grayson Waller in a WarGames match as Breakker pinned Ciampa to get the win.

So what did he say? He said the one regret he has is not enjoying his time in NXT the most because he was always worrying about whether he gave the fans the best. He said that he hoped he gave the fans what they want. He brought up having a tryout in 2015 and was told he would never be signed. He gave credit to William Regal for giving him a dark match against Apollo Crews and because of the fans, WWE brought him back and eventually signed. He said the only place he felt special was in the ring. Gargano said he believes in NXT and that’s why he never went to the main roster. He named his friends in NXT and his family is in WWE. He said that change is scary and sometimes it needs to happen. He said that you will never fail if you bet on yourself. He said his future is still up in the air. Gargano said in February, he will start the most important job of his life and that’s being a dad. Grayson Waller attacked him from behind with a steel chair. Waller put him through a table and said that this isn’t Gargano’s house anymore. This closed the show.

    Steel Cage Match

    \"\"

Von Wagner vs. Kyle O’Reilly in a steel cage match opened the show. These guys worked hard and had over 10 minutes. Wagner beat him with a low blow then hit his finisher for the win. Post-match, Wagner attacked him by slamming the cage door in his face.

At NXT WarGames, Wagner tried to attack O’Reilly after their tag match against champions Imperium (Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner). O’Reilly noticed and attacked him instead. O’Reilly threw out the challenge in a promo following an altercation as he said that he saw the turn coming. He asked to leave the cage set up as he challenged Wagner to the cage match.

His WWE contract is set to expire this month, but the specific date is not known.

  • WWE Day 1 Updated Card: Edge vs. The Miz Announced

Edge vs. The Miz has been officially announced for the upcoming WWE Day 1 PPV.

WWE set up this feud on last week’s episode of Raw when Edge and Miz made their returns where they exchanged words. Miz had an issue with WWE giving so much attention to Edge’s return and there wasn’t anything hyped about his own return. Miz thinks has surpassed Edge a long time ago and Edge should have stayed home for good.

On this week’s show, the war of words continued when the WWE Hall of Famer made an appearance on Miz TV. After the challenge was excepted, Edge faked him out and Miz dropped as he expected a punch to end the segment to make it seem Miz was afraid of Edge.

WWE presents the Day 1 pay-per-view event on Saturday, January 1, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia at the State Farm Arena that will air on Peacock. WWE will be announcing more matches for this show in the coming weeks. Here is the updated card:

    Updated WWE Day 1 Card

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar

WWE Champion Big E vs. Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens – Triple Threat Match

  • Team 2.0 Wins Men’s WarGames Match

The latest chapter in WarGames history has been written as the men’s version of the match was memorable and saw Team come out victorious.

WWE held the match at the NXT WarGames event with the expected main event seeing Team 2.0 (Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller, and Tony D\’Angelo) vs. Team Black & Gold (Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne, and LA Knight).

Gargano and Hayes started things out. Waller was the third man in. Gargano was bleeding from his nose. Dunne was next in line followed by D\’Angelo, and then Knight. Dunne was using various weapons to damage the middle finger of Waller. Bron and Ciampa were the last wrestlers to enter. Knight did a belly-to-belly suplex from the top rope to Waller through a table. Gargano and Ciampa did some old DIY spots. Waller hit an elbow drop off the top of the cage onto Knight through a table. Waller hit an elbow drop off the top of the cage to Knight through a table. Bron with his finisher to Ciampa for the win.

This could’ve been Gargano’s last NXT match as his contract expires on December 10th.

The match was set up as all of the competitors had been feuding with each other in separate storylines. This past Tuesday night on NXT 2.0, Breakker won the advantage for his team by defeating Gargano in a ladder match.

Last year’s event saw The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly) beat The Kings of NXT (Pat McAfee, Pete Dunne, NXT Tag Team Champions Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch). In 2019, Tommaso Ciampa, Donovan Dijak, Keith Lee and Kevin Owens beat The Undisputed Era.

  • Roderick Strong Retains Cruiserweight Title At WWE NXT WarGames

Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong made his latest title defense against Joe Gacy at the WWE NXT WarGames event in Orlando, Florida on Sunday night.

The match was kept short with Gacy dominating early only for Strong to make a comeback with a knee strike then a backbreaker for the win.

WWE set up this feud a few weeks ago when Gacy interrupted Strong and his Diamond Mine stablemates while Malcolm Bivens was cutting a promo. The following week, Diamond Mine interrupted a promo by Gacy and told him that  Diamond Mine was going to steal the spotlight from Gacy like he did to them. Gacy said he has no respect for them or Strong and he said Strong\’s name alone is an example of toxic masculinity. Gacy said the Cruiserweight division is meant to divide because it’s an example of exclusivity and weight shaming.

Strong offered the title match and Gacy accepted before noting that he looked forward to resolving this issue together as one. Bivens wanted Julius & Brutus Creed to attack Gacy, but he called them off after Gacy\’s associate Harland appeared.

Strong won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship from Kushida this September. Dave Meltzer noted on an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio this week that he had heard WWE might be getting rid of the title and renaming it the All-Inclusive Championship.

  • Imperium Retain Tag Team Titles At WWE NXT WarGames

Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner stepped up to challenge WWE NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium (Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner)  for the titles at the WarGames event in Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center on Peacock.

The match featured Imperium to beatdown Kyle in the early going until Von got the hot tag. Von hit some powerslams including on the apron and an angle slam. Kyle was taken out with a moonsault while having Barthel in an ankle lock. Imperium pinned Kyle with their finisher.

Post-match, Wagner tried to turn on O\’Reilly, who saw it coming and laid out Wanger before leaving the ring. This could\’ve been O\’Reilly\’s last match in NXT as his WWE contract expires this week.

WWE set up this contest this past week on NXT 2.0 when O\’Reilly & Wagner defeated Legado del Fantasma\’s Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde in a number one contender\’s match to earn the title shot.

This marked Imperium\’s first title defense since becoming NXT Tag Team Champions when they won the titles from MSK in a Lumberjack-O\’-Lantern match at Halloween Havoc in October.

The storyline with O\’Reilly and Wagner was that Kyle was initially hesitant to form another tag team after the way that Undisputed Era broke up. Their pairing started following the premiere episode of NXT 2.0 this September.  This show is where Wagner made his debut and saved O\’Reilly from an attack by Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland.

  • Team Raquel Wins Women’s WarGames Match

For the third straight year, WWE held a WarGames match at Sunday’s WarGames event featuring female talent and this year’s match was just as memorable as what had come before it.

This year’s version of this contest featured Team Raquel (Raquel González, Io Shirai, Cora Jade, and Kay Lee Ray) vs. Team Dakota (Dakota Kai and Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin, and Jacy Jayne).

Ray and Kai kicked things off. Jade was the third person in the match followed by Dolin. The fifth person in was Shirai and then Jacy. Jade did a swanton bomb from the top of the cage through a table. Raquel and Rose were the last to enter the bout. Raquel put Kai in a trash can then used it as a weapon. Io hit a moonsault off the top rope onto Kai, who was in a trash can. Jade got the win after Raquel hit a big boot to Dolin.

This past Tuesday night on NXT 2.0, a fan vote decided who would represent their team in a ladder match to earn the advantage. Ray defeated Kai in a ladder match to get the advantage.

Back on the November 23rd edition of NXT 2.0, Jade defeated Rose following a distraction from Ray. In a backstage statement, Ray told the rest of the team that she would align with them for the match.

Last year’s women’s match saw Rhea Ripley, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox & Candice LeRae beat Shayna Baszler, Bianca Belair, Io Shirai & Kay Lee Ray.

This came just days before Grimes steps into the ring with Duke Hudson in a hair vs. hair match at WarGames.

The match was short and one-sided with Grimes going over with his double foot stomp for the win. Post-match, Hudson appeared to congratulate on his final victory with a full head of hair. He showed off photoshopped photos of Grimes with different hair styles. Grimes this Sunday he would be shaving him bald.

Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde of Legado del Fantasma vs. Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner took place with the winners becoming the new #1 contenders to NXT Tag Team Champions Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner of Imperium for a title match at WarGames.

The match was fun with Wagner hitting his finisher for the win.

Kay Lee Ray vs. Dakota Kai in a WarGames Advantage Ladder Match kicked off the show.

They did a lot of brawling. At one point, Kai hit a double foot stomp off the top of the ladder. Ray knocked Kai off the ladder and grabbed the briefcase. It wasn’t the wildest match you’ll ever see, but it was a solid performance.

Gacy talked about his vision and sees there be no weight limits or the views of someone looking different. He said that he will have a conflict resolution this Sunday. He asked fans to take a look at a glimpse into the future.

Gacy proceeded to have a gauntlet match against a small dude, who got crushed. He then was about to wrestle a big guy and a woman, but Diamond Mine then came out. Malcolm said that Diamond Mind is going to shut up Gacy for good. Gacy got into a brawl with the group and laid out Strong with a clothesline.

  • Maryse Returns On WWE Raw, Edge Mentions CM Punk’s Reference About The Miz

WWE had a few returns during the top of the second hour of Monday’s episode of Raw as Edge came out for a promo, which marked his first appearance since Crown Jewel where he defeated Seth Rollins in a Hell in a Cell match.

The WWE Hall of Famer talked about all of the top stars on the roster such as Damian Priest, Big E, AJ Styles, and Finn Balor as potential opponents, but pointed out how he hadn’t mentioned one name. This led to The Miz, who has been gone while being on the latest season of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, and Maryse, his wife, coming out to the ring.

Miz had an issue with WWE giving so much attention to Edge’s return even though he’s only been away for a month. He brought up how he doesn’t get the same treatment as Edge. He declared his wife is officially back in WWE and knocked Edge. He thinks he has surpassed Edge a long time ago and Edge should have stayed home for good.

Edge stated that Miz lives rent-free in people’s heads and people on other shows mention his name just to get a cheap reaction, which was a reference to CM Punk calling MJF a less famous version of The Miz on last week’s AEW Dynamite.

Miz declined the offer to fight Edge and left the ring. It appears the match will take place at the Day 1 PPV event in January.

  • Title Match Announced For WWE Day 1

Big E, Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins are set to face off on New Year\’s Day for the WWE Championship.

On Monday’s episode of Raw, Seth Rollins confirmed in a promo that he will challenge Big E for the WWE Title at the WWE Day 1 pay-per-view. This marks the first match to be confirmed for the PPV event.

Rollins then beat Finn Balor in a singles match on the show. Rollins earned this title match by becoming the number one contender when he won a fatal four-way ladder match on Raw five weeks ago as he beat Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, and Rey Mysterio.

However, Big E went one-on-one with Owens in a non-title match with the stipulation was that if Owens won, he would be added to the WWE Title. That happened so now it will be a triple threat match.

Big E has held the WWE Championship since cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Bobby Lashley this September.  Since that time, he had successful title defenses against Lashley, Drew McIntyre, and Austin Theory.

WWE presents the Day 1 pay-per-view event on Saturday, January 1, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia at the State Farm Arena that will air on Peacock. WWE will be announcing more matches for this show in the coming weeks.
