AEW is heading back to Mexico City. The company announced that AEW Grand Slam: Mexico returns to Arena Mexico on Wednesday, August 5, marking the second straight year the promotion runs a televised special inside CMLL’s home venue.
The event airs live on TBS and streams on HBO Max in the United States, with Fox Sports Mexico carrying it locally. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 6 at 10 a.m. CST through AEWTix.com and Ticketmaster.com.mx.
AEW’s promotional graphic features world champion MJF alongside lucha libre names Místico, Mascara Dorada, Andrade El Idolo, Thunder Rosa, and Bandido. No matches have been confirmed, and AEW says additional details are coming.
The date itself tells the bigger story. Last year’s inaugural Grand Slam Mexico ran on June 18, but the 2026 edition slides to August, a move tied to the FIFA World Cup occupying Mexican venues through mid-July. That timing plants the show squarely in AEW’s late-summer run toward All In at Wembley Stadium on August 30.
The 2025 special drew a packed Arena Mexico crowd and produced one of the year’s signature moments, with Hangman Page cutting a Spanish promo and a controversial MJF segment in a heated main-event-level encounter. The AEW and CMLL partnership has only deepened since, making the return to the “cathedral of lucha libre” one of the more anticipated entries on the company’s calendar.
