Charlotte Flair says she hid her divorce from the public because she was too ashamed to admit she felt like she was failing again.

The 14-time WWE Women’s Champion opened up in a conversation with Ring The Belle, facilitated by SiriusXM Pro Wrestling Nation, about the cost of maintaining an unbreakable persona while her personal life fell apart.

“I hid my divorce when I was out because I was so ashamed and embarrassed that I was failing again,” Flair said. “That was part of the issue, trying to maintain this persona that I was really struggling with.”

Dropping The Mask

Flair described years of pretending she was fine when she wasn’t, and said the pressure to look flawless on screen worked against her.

“I felt like for so long that I pretended like I was okay when I wasn’t,” she said. “You look so perfect, that was the character base. But no, Charlotte is breakable. She does have feelings, she is hurting. There is a real person behind there.”

Letting fans in has become the point, not a risk. Flair credited that openness with helping her reconnect with an audience that had grown used to a more guarded version of The Queen.

A Daily Reminder That Caught On

One small habit has stuck with her more than anything. Flair said fans now answer her with a phrase she has leaned on through the hardest stretch of her career.

“I see fans now respond back, ‘PS, I hope you feel beautiful today,’” she said. “Means so much to me that that’s catching on, because it’s been a daily reminder for me over the last couple years.”

Flair has spoken before about how her mindset affected her recovery and her decision to invest in mental health advocacy. You can read more on that in our earlier coverage of Charlotte Flair admitting mental health played a role in her career-threatening injury.
