Octagon Jr. recently suffered a legitimate injury at the AAA Noche de los Grandes Week Two tapings but he is expected to make a full recovery.
Reports suggest that the injury occurred during a five-way match involving Octagon Jr., Joaquin Wilde, Mini-Vikingo, Lince Dorado, and Cruz Del Toro. Wilde delivered a top-rope DDT that did not land properly, prompting the referee to immediately signal a legitimate injury with the X sign. Octagon Jr. was subsequently stretchered out.
PWInsider has reported that the luchador is expected to be out of action for approximately a few months. There is no word yet on the specific nature of the injury.
WWE legend John Bradshaw Layfield recently jokingly threatened to sue after WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio was announced as the new General Manager of AAA Lucha Libre.
The former WWE Champion took to social media to express his mock outrage over the appointment.
“I was robbed! I’m calling David Otunga and we are suing,” JBL posted on Twitter in response to the announcement. The post referenced fellow WWE personality David Otunga, playing up the comedic nature of the complaint.
AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio reposted JBL’s complaint on social media. The younger Mysterio has been involved in an ongoing storyline feud with his father Rey on WWE programming for years.
JBL had previously claimed he was confident about being appointed to the General Manager role. The Texan stated he is universally loved in Mexico ahead of the reveal.
What’s Next For Rey Mysterio
It remains unclear how the AAA General Manager role will affect Rey Mysterio’s in-ring career with WWE. After the announcement, Rey promised to take AAA to new heights in the position.
Rey Mysterio continues to perform regularly on WWE while taking on this new responsibility with the Mexican promotion.
Rey Mysterio has been named the new General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA. The announcement was made during the live episode of AAA on Fox on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
AAA President Marisela Peña kicked off the broadcast with the reveal. Several AAA legends and current roster members were present in and around the ring for the announcement, including Peña’s son Dorian Roldán, who had hoped to secure the position himself.
In a surprising turn, Peña announced the WWE Hall of Famer and legendary luchador as the promotion’s new authority figure. Fans in attendance noted Mysterio’s voice was absent from English commentary at the start of the show, connecting the dots before the official reveal.
While the wrestlers and legends present celebrated Mysterio’s appointment, Roldán and AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio were visibly upset at the news. The younger Mysterio’s reaction adds an intriguing family dynamic to the storyline.
Rey Mysterio will work alongside The Undertaker, who is part of AAA on Fox’s creative team. The Hall of Famer brings decades of experience and global star power to his new role with the promotion.
Lucha Libre AAA names its first General Manager of the WWE ownership era tonight, with the reveal set for the promotion’s weekly Saturday show in Mexico City.
AAA President Marisela Peña will introduce the new authority figure on the broadcast, which streams at 10 ET/7 PT on FOX in Latin America and on YouTube and Facebook everywhere else. The announcement closes out a storyline that has built on AAA on FOX since mid-April.

It began on the April 18 episode, when Dorian Roldan pressed his mother to hand him the job. Peña held off, then used the April 25 broadcast to confirm she would open a search for the right candidate instead.
“It has been exactly a year since we made history at WrestleMania, and now it’s the time to make history again,” Peña said at the time, promising that “with the new General Manager in AAA, nothing will be the same.”
The vacancy has stood out. AAA has run without an on-screen authority figure since the promotion’s creative overhaul under WWE, leaving it the only WWE-affiliated brand without a General Manager. Adam Pearce runs Raw and Nick Aldis handles SmackDown, while NXT and Evolve carry their own on-air bosses.
The Field Of Candidates
Speculation has run in several directions. JBL, who calls AAA on FOX matches alongside Rey Mysterio and Corey Graves, has openly lobbied for the position on social media, posting that “I know this will be me, and I plan on accepting.” Mysterio has been floated as a natural fit, as has Chavo Guerrero Jr., who has been working behind the scenes for the promotion.
Chelsea Green has also pushed for the job from the sidelines, replying to the search with a brief “I’ll be waiting.” Dorian Roldan remains the obvious in-storyline option given his televised campaign and his role leading the El Ojo faction, though installing a heel CEO this early would cut a longer power struggle short.
The May 23 card also features Laredo Kid (c) defending the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship against Rey Fenix, with The Creed Brothers meeting Los Americanos.

AAA Triplemania 34 will run as a two-night event this September, expanding the format of Lucha Libre AAA’s flagship show in its second year under WWE’s umbrella.
WWE confirmed during Saturday’s Backlash broadcast in Tampa that Triplemania 34 will take place on Friday, September 11 and Sunday, September 13. Night two is set for Ciudad de Mexico, while a venue for night one has not been revealed. No matches have been announced.

The split marks the first Triplemania to run across multiple nights since WWE’s joint venture with Fillip closed its acquisition of AAA in August 2025. Last year’s Triplemania XXXIII, the first under the new ownership, ran as a single-night show at Arena CDMX on August 16, after AAA had previously held three-night Triplemania events from 2022 through 2024.
That 2025 show was headlined by El Hijo del Vikingo retaining the AAA Mega Championship over Dominik Mysterio, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano in a four-way match, with AJ Styles playing a role in the finish.
Where AAA Sits Heading Into Triplemania 34
The promotion enters its 2026 cycle with a strengthened broadcast footprint. FOX Corporation announced a multi-platform deal with AAA last November that brought the promotion’s programming to Mexico, Central America, and South America (excluding Brazil) starting this year. AAA on Fox now airs every Saturday at 10 p.m. ET on Fox Latin America and the WWE YouTube channel.
AAA star Cuatrero, whose real name is Rogelio Reyes, has been found guilty of family violence and attempted feminicide against his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Vaquer.
Mexican crime journalist Antonio Nieto reported the verdict on X on Tuesday. The conviction marks the conclusion of a case involving the lucha libre performer and the WWE superstar.
A Mexico City judge handed down the conviction following a legal process that spanned several months.
Legal Proceedings Against Cuatrero
The charges against Cuatrero included family violence and attempted feminicide, serious criminal offenses under Mexican law. The case proceeded through Mexico City’s judicial system before reaching its verdict.
Vaquer, who previously held the WWE Women’s World Championship, was identified as the victim in the case. The relationship between the two wrestlers ended before the legal proceedings.
The Incident
The charges come after an incident on March 2, 2023 at Vaquer’s apartment in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. Vaquer, who was Reyes’ partner at the time told prosecutors he had attempted to strangle her.
It has been reported that she filed her complaint days later and shared photos showing marks on her neck. The Fiscalía Especializada para la Investigación de Delitos de Feminicidio reclassified the initial domestic violence charge to attempted feminicide and continued the case from there.
Reyes had spent nearly two years in preventive detention before being granted release via amparo on March 7 last year. He returned to the squared circle in February 2026 for AAA, his first match since the arrest.
