Lucha Libre veteran José Calzada Salazar passed away during a wrestling performance.

According to reports from multiple Mexican outlets, including Record.com, the 56-year-old known as the Road Pilot lost his life while performing at Arena Internacional in Ciudad Juárez this past Sunday.

The wrestling veteran was attempting an outside dive from the top rope. Salazar, however, fell heavily on the concrete floor and struck his head as the landing went wrong.

Emergency services received a call about an unconscious person shortly after 9:00 p.m. The building was evacuated as the paramedics checked on the wrestling star, but nothing could be done as José broke his neck in the fall and died immediately, per the SSPM officer

The forensics took over the arena and sealed the building after collecting the body. The owner of the building was asked to present the operating permits and the contingency plan, which he was not able to produce at the time.

José Calzada Salazar had built a reputation in the indie circuit for his fearless and high-risk style, earning himself the nickname The Suicide Pilot. Many wrestling names have paid tribute to the late star after his passing, including Christopher Daniels.

SEScoops sends its deepest condolences to the friends and family of José.
