TKO Reportedly Behind WWE’s Purge of Dark Characters

    Spooky WWE

A backstage rumor making the rounds among WWE talents points to a power player within TKO Group Holdings as the driving force behind the post-WrestleMania 42 releases of several dark-character acts, according to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson.

“I don’t know if there’s a pattern but I can tell you there’s been a story bouncing around among talents that someone in the TKO realm isn’t a fan of the darker characters and that’s been the blame placed on why The Wyatts, Aleister Black, Zelina, etc. were all cut,” Johnson said on the latest PWInsider Q&A. “One person even suggested to me that Undertaker being The American Badass and not The Deadman in appearances is proof of that outlook.”

Johnson stressed that PWInsider could not independently verify the claim, but noted the account had been relayed to him multiple times over the past week.

    Who Was Cut

WWE released more than 20 talents on April 24 in a sweeping post-WrestleMania 42 roster reduction. The departures included every member of the Wyatt Sicks: Bo Dallas (Uncle Howdy), Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis, and Nikki Cross. Aleister Black and his wife Zelina Vega were also among those let go.

Each of those acts shared a common thread: horror-inflected, darker character work. The Wyatt Sicks were built around the creative legacy of the late Bray Wyatt, with Bo Dallas leading the group as Uncle Howdy following his brother’s passing in August 2023. Black and Vega had aligned as a villainous couple with overt dark-arts presentation on SmackDown.

Zelina Vega noted during a Twitch livestream that her release call came directly from TKO, not WWE’s internal talent relations team, a distinction she highlighted publicly.

    The Undertaker Detail

The most provocative element of Johnson’s report involves The Undertaker. Per the sources relaying the rumor, TKO’s apparent resistance to supernatural characters is evidenced by the Hall of Famer’s recent appearances in his biker “American Badass” persona rather than the iconic Deadman character he retired in 2020.

The Deadman gimmick is among the most decorated in WWE history, winning the Wrestling Observer’s Best Gimmick award five consecutive times. The American Badass version, which Undertaker originally adopted in 2000, strips away the supernatural elements in favor of a more grounded, human presentation.

    Context and Caveats

It is worth noting that a separate report indicated TKO did not mandate the April 24 cuts, with Triple H and Nick Khan identified as the primary decision-makers. Per that account, the reductions were driven by budget considerations rather than a directive from TKO’s ownership level.

Those two reports are not necessarily contradictory. A preference expressed at the TKO level could influence creative direction without constituting a formal mandate for specific releases. Johnson himself did not name the individual within TKO said to hold the anti-dark-character view.

Aleister Black’s second WWE run had been building toward a program with Randy Orton before the releases were announced. The Wyatt Sicks, who debuted to significant fan enthusiasm in June 2024, had most recently been feuding with Solo Sikoa’s faction on SmackDown before their contracts were cut.

  • Lacey Evans Announces Wrestling Return

    Lacey Evans Announces Wrestling Return

Lacey Evans is coming back to professional wrestling, and a four-year-old is partly to thank for it.

The former WWE Superstar, who now goes by her real name Macey Estrella, announced her return on Wednesday in a video posted to her Instagram account. Evans has not competed since July 2023 and asked for her WWE release the following month, walking away from the business to focus on her family and her Beaufort, South Carolina cafe.

“Hello, I am Macey Estrella, also known as former WWE Superstar Lacey Evans, and I’ve got some really exciting news,” Evans said in the video. “I will be returning to wrestling. Yes, the Sassy Southern Belle is on her way back.”

    https://www.instagram.com/p/DXxPZmHkSVe

The caption Evans paired with the announcement told the story in even fewer words:

Sunny: “Mom you were a wrestler”
    Me: “yep”
Sunny: “I wanna see you fight”
    Say no more….. ??? #SheTalkedMeIntoIt

    WrestleCon Signing Lit The Fire

Beyond the request from her daughter, Evans pointed to a recent appearance at WrestleCon during WrestleMania 42 weekend in Las Vegas as the moment she decided to come back. The convention ran April 16-19 at Horseshoe Las Vegas, drawing thousands of fans across four days of signings and meet-and-greets.

“As you all know, I just did a signing in Las Vegas during WrestleMania and it really lit that fire,” Evans said.

The interaction with fans was reinforced by what was happening right next to her at the signing table. Evans said Sunny was watching the whole time and wanted to see the rest of it live.

“I stepped out of the wrestling business for my children, and technically I’m stepping back in for my kids,” Evans said. “My four-year-old was just looking around at this signing. She has seen me on TV and she just wants to see it live. What kind of mama would I be if I didn’t show her?”

The Road Back To Ring Shape

Evans was candid about what the comeback will require physically. She has not had a professional match since a dark match on the July 7, 2023 episode of SmackDown, more than two and a half years ago.

“I’ve got to get back in shape. I’ve got to get in ring-shape back. I wonder where I’ll be going. I have to train, I’ve got to get a personal trainer, I’ve got to make my way back,” Evans said. “I’m ready to see what I have to offer as a talent, to see what I have to offer as an entertainer.”

She has not announced where she will be wrestling. The 36-year-old former United States Marine is a free agent, and her WWE run included main-event programs with Becky Lynch in 2019, a 2021 Royal Rumble entry, and feuds with Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Asuka.

Evans said she will be documenting her training journey on her secondary Instagram account, @limitlessmacey, where Wednesday’s announcement was posted.

SmackDown Match Card for May 1, 2026

Here are the matches and segments announced for tonight’s show:

Charlotte Flair vs. Jacy Jayne (Singles Match)

Flair gets her hands on the leader of Fatal Influence one week after the new faction blindsided her, Alexa Bliss, Brie Bella, and Paige to spoil a Women’s Tag Team Title shot. Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid have made an immediate statement on the blue brand, and Flair stepped up to handle Jayne herself rather than wait for help from Rhea Ripley. Outside interference from the rest of Fatal Influence is on the table.

Ricky Saints Makes His SmackDown Debut

The former NXT Champion arrives on the main roster after a vignette aired last week confirming the call-up. Saints had his NXT farewell match against Shiloh Hill earlier this week, and WWE has heavily promoted his SmackDown arrival. How Triple H and Nick Aldis introduce him remains the question, with potential backstage interactions or an in-ring segment all in play.

Cody Rhodes Addresses the WWE Universe

The Undisputed WWE Champion is advertised for tonight’s show after issuing an open challenge in a promo last week. Rhodes is still sporting the orbital injury from Randy Orton’s post-WrestleMania Punt Kick, and Backlash is eight days away in Tampa. Whatever is announced tonight should clarify who Rhodes defends against on May 9.

Tiffany Stratton’s First Night as Women’s United States Champion

Stratton captured the title from Giulia last week and is expected to address the win on tonight’s show. Whether WWE extends the Stratton vs. Giulia program or pivots her to a fresh challenger should come into focus in Tulsa.

    Road to WWE Backlash 2026

Backlash 2026 takes place Saturday, May 9 at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.

WWE has confirmed three Backlash matches off the Raw side: Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu, Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, and Asuka vs. IYO SKY. The SmackDown half of the card is wide open heading into tonight, with Cody Rhodes’ next challenger and the Sami Zayn vs. Trick Williams United States Title rivalry both expected to take shape before next week’s go-home show.

  • Zoe Hines Officially Signs With WWE Amid Nepo Backlash

Zoe Hines Officially Signs With WWE Amid Nepo Backlash

Zoe Hines is officially a WWE Superstar in training, and her arrival is already generating wrestling media chatter beyond the usual rookie class rollout.

The 22-year-old former Boston College softball player was unveiled Wednesday as part of the latest WWE Performance Center signing class, joining Alyssa Daniele, Garrett Beck, and Nicholas Panicali. The official announcement came through the WWE NXT account on X.

Hines is the niece of U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Curb Your Enthusiasm actress Cheryl Hines. RFK Jr. celebrated the news on his own X account.

The Family Connection Driving the Conversation

The signing has drawn outsized attention because of how it intersects with WWE’s existing political ties. Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon currently serves as U.S. Secretary of Education in the Trump administration, while RFK Jr. holds the Secretary of Health and Human Services post.

RFK Jr. first revealed Hines’ signing publicly in March during an appearance at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine, openly crediting McMahon for facilitating the opportunity.

“My niece, Zoe Hines, recently signed a contract with WWE, which Linda had a lot to do with, to become a wrestler,” Kennedy said.

That public framing is what set the tone for how this week’s official rollout has been received in some corners of the wrestling press.

    Wrestling Observer Report Adds Heat

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer offered a critical perspective on the signing, claiming the move was viewed internally as politically motivated rather than performance-based.

“I certainly heard a lot about Zoe Hines I would say six months ago, and it was very much this is one that was politically forced on them,” Meltzer said. “She’s a real athlete, she’s a softball player. When she had her tryout, it’s not like she knocked them dead or even knocked them even.”

Meltzer’s reporting represents one perspective on the move and has not been confirmed or addressed by WWE. The company has not made any public comment beyond Wednesday’s official roster reveal.

    What Hines Brings to NXT

The athletic resume is the part of her story that has been less discussed. Hines played 36 games with 29 starts as a junior at Boston College and represented France’s national softball team along with its U22 program, per F4WOnline. She also took part in last year’s SummerSlam tryout weekend, the same recruiting pipeline that produced recent NXT call-up Lizzy Rain.

WWE has built modern stars out of athletes from non-wrestling backgrounds before, with Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, and Bron Breakker as recent examples of crossover talent who developed inside the Performance Center system.

Hines now joins that pipeline with the rest of the rookie class. WWE’s links to the Trump administration extend further still: Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque serves as vice chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

How her training translates to television will ultimately decide the trajectory. For now, she is officially part of WWE, and the conversation around her debut is only just getting started.

WWE Backlash 2026 Preview: Match Card, How to Watch

WWE Backlash 2026 takes place Saturday, May 9 at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, the first Premium Live Event following WrestleMania 42. The post-WrestleMania fallout show streams on the ESPN app in the United States and Netflix internationally.

Backlash has long served as the first major reaction to WrestleMania, the show where new champions defend, fresh challengers emerge, and unfinished business gets settled. Backlash 2026 is no exception. The card is built almost entirely on storylines that either began at WrestleMania 42 or were specifically held off the Las Vegas card to land in Tampa.

This is also the first Backlash to stream on ESPN in the United States, marking a new chapter for WWE’s Premium Live Event distribution after the Peacock contract expired at the end of Clash in Paris last August.

    Match Previews

World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu

    WWE Backlash Tampa

Reigns reclaimed the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 Night 2. Fatu was the first challenger to step up, and he spent two weeks proving he belongs in the main event.

    • The challenge: Fatu confronted Reigns on the Raw After WrestleMania and demanded a Backlash title shot.
    • The statement: Pinned Solo Sikoa in the SmackDown main event April 24, then dismantled the rest of MFT solo.
    • The personal layer: On April 27 Raw, Fatu cut a raw promo about 12 years of struggle and being ignored by Roman, Jey, and Jimmy. Solo was the only family member who reached out.
    • What’s at stake: The Usos have warned Fatu that winning means taking the title, the ula fala, and family leadership.
    • The wrinkle: Fatu has never challenged for a world title in WWE. He’s also never looked more ready than he does right now.

Singles Match: Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker

    Rollins Breaker WWE Backlash

This was supposed to happen at WrestleMania. Six months of Vision fallout finally pays off in Tampa.

    • The breakup: Breakker and Bronson Reed turned on Rollins last October, kicking him out of his own stable.
    • The injuries: A Crown Jewel shoulder injury forced Rollins to relinquish the World Heavyweight Title and shelved him for four months. Breakker tore a hernia in early February.
    • The WrestleMania spear: Breakker returned at WM 42 Night 1 and speared Rollins to set up Gunther’s win.
    • The challenge: Rollins blamed Breakker for both his Mania loss and Reigns winning the title. Breakker, with Paul Heyman in his corner, accepted on April 27 Raw.
    • What’s at stake: Rollins’ first PLE singles match since WrestleMania, and Breakker’s first chance to prove he carries a featured spot without stable backup.

    Asuka vs. IYO SKY

Iyo Sky vs Asuka Backlash Tampa

Another match WWE originally targeted for WrestleMania 42 finally has a date, with one major piece of the storyline missing.

    • The betrayal: Asuka and Kairi Sane turned on SKY last September, fracturing the post-Damage CTRL alliance.
    • The receipts: SKY and Rhea Ripley beat The Kabuki Warriors at Crown Jewel and Survivor Series WarGames, then took the Women’s Tag Titles on the Raw on Netflix Anniversary Show in January.
    • The flashpoint: Asuka interfered in SKY’s Women’s Intercontinental Title match against Becky Lynch on April 27 Raw, costing SKY the win, then attacked her with the Asuka Lock.
    • The missing piece: Kairi Sane was released by WWE on April 24. Laredo crowds chanted “We Want Kairi” during the post-match attack.
    • What’s at stake: Personal pride for both, with SKY needing a win after the IC Title loss and Asuka looking to reassert herself as the women’s division’s top heel.

  • WWE NXT Lands On ESPN App As Part Of New CW Streaming Deal

WWE NXT Lands On ESPN App As Part Of New CW Streaming Deal

WWE NXT is heading to the ESPN App. The CW Network and ESPN announced a sweeping streaming partnership on Wednesday that will make every CW Sports live event available on ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service starting this summer, including weekly NXT broadcasts.

Under the deal, more than 800 hours of CW Sports programming will stream live on the ESPN App for ESPN Unlimited subscribers. The lineup includes WWE NXT, the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, ACC, Pac-12, and Mountain West college football and basketball, PBA Bowling, PBR Bull Riding, AVP volleyball, and the 2026 Arizona Bowl.

What It Means For NXT Viewers

Nothing changes for fans who already watch NXT on linear television. The two-hour Tuesday night broadcast will continue to air on The CW from 8 to 10 p.m. ET, just as it has since the brand moved to broadcast TV in October 2024. The ESPN partnership simply adds a live streaming option for cord-cutters and viewers who prefer the ESPN App ecosystem.

“We were hunting for a streaming solution, and the thing that we knew was that the world doesn’t need another direct-to-consumer product,” CW Network President Brad Schwartz told TheWrap. “We decided our strategy was not going to be adding to that challenge for people and that we were going to partner with somebody to do it. If you’re going to find a partner for sports, the worldwide leader in sports is a pretty good one to go with.”

    NXT Joins WWE’s ESPN Footprint

The timing is notable. The new streaming arrangement lands one day after WWE and The CW announced that all NXT Premium Live Events will move exclusively to The CW beginning with The Great American Bash this summer. With CW Sports content now flowing into the ESPN App, that means NXT PLEs will also be available to stream there alongside the weekly show.

That puts nearly all of WWE’s premium U.S. content under the ESPN streaming roof. Main roster PLEs including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and the Royal Rumble already stream on ESPN as part of the company’s $1.6 billion deal with the network. Monday Night Raw remains on Netflix, while SmackDown stays on USA Network.

A First Of Its Kind For ESPN

According to Variety, this marks the first time ESPN’s streaming service has partnered with a non-Disney-owned broadcast network in a major way. The CW will retain control of all advertising sales tied to its sports inventory, with year one operating as a linear pass-through before dynamic ad insertion is rolled out.

NXT’s first run on broadcast television has already paid off for The CW. The network previously called the partnership “an absolute game changer”, with NXT regularly outpacing Fox among adults 18-49 and 25-54 on Tuesday nights. Adding ESPN App distribution gives the brand its widest combined linear and streaming reach to date.

The CW Sports launch on the ESPN App is set for summer 2026.

  • Triple H’s WWE Future Was Internally Questioned Before New Deal

Triple H’s WWE Future Was Internally Questioned Before New Deal

Triple H’s new WWE contract sealed his immediate future, but the conversation about whether he would even be in the role much longer was happening inside the company well before WrestleMania 42, not just on Wrestling Twitter.

That’s the picture painted by Bryan Alvarez on the April 28 episode of Wrestling Observer Live. Alvarez reported that the question of Paul Levesque’s standing was an active discussion topic inside WWE leading into Las Vegas, driven less by what he was doing and more by how often he was getting overruled.

    Why The Internal Doubt Existed

Alvarez was clear that the backstage conversation was not a referendum on Levesque’s creative work. It was a referendum on his actual authority.

“Sometimes there will be some things that are booked and fans won’t like it, and then they’ll try to get this traction going that maybe we need to replace Triple H,” Alvarez said. “I will say that this year, leading to WrestleMania, unlike previous years when fans were discussing it, it was a topic of conversation in WWE leading up to WrestleMania 42.”

The reason, per Alvarez, was the volume of late changes coming from above him on the org chart.

“I want to make it very clear, the people discussing this within WWE were not discussing this in the sense that, ‘We think he’s doing a horrible job, we need him to be replaced.’ It was being discussed specifically because so much stuff was being done at the last second by people outside. The decision to bring in Pat McAfee, the decision to insert him into the storyline, the thing with Jelly Roll. I had heard about it prior to that as well with other things that had come from above.”

The McAfee Decision Came From The Top

The McAfee insertion is the cleanest example of the friction Alvarez is describing. Dave Meltzer previously reported that the call to bring Pat McAfee into the Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton program came from TKO CEO Ari Emanuel, who also represents McAfee. McAfee initially turned the offer down before WWE eventually got him in the door for the April 4 SmackDown reveal as Orton’s mystery caller.

Jelly Roll was layered onto the angle separately. The cumulative effect, per Alvarez, was a sense inside the building that the people writing the checks did not fully trust the person running the show.

“It was just kind of there was a feeling that perhaps these people keep getting involved and why would they be getting involved if they had so much faith in this guy. And there were people that thought, ‘I don’t know if this guy is going to be around this time next year.’”

The New Deal Settles It For Now

Levesque’s new agreement, announced by WWE President Nick Khan during a TKO town hall on April 27, is reportedly a multi-year deal that PWInsider says could run as long as three years. The deal was reportedly completed before WrestleMania weekend, meaning the internal hand-wringing Alvarez described was happening even as the paperwork was being finalized.

Khan publicly backed Levesque during that town hall, telling staff he would remain Chief Content Officer for the foreseeable future. Sources told Bodyslam that TKO is satisfied with the work Levesque has done despite the corporate overrides during WrestleMania season.

“Turns out he ends up getting his deal extended, so he will be around,” Alvarez said. “But it was definitely a discussion point that this may not be his thing for a long period of time. It could be over soon.”

The contract removes the immediate question. The structural one, who actually gets the final say when WWE’s biggest weekend rolls around, is a separate problem entirely. Court filings from 2023 already showed Levesque navigating outside creative interference once before. The names have changed. The dynamic, by Alvarez’s account, has not.

  • Triple H, Nick Khan Using AI for WWE Storylines, Says TKO COO

Triple H, Nick Khan Using AI for WWE Storylines, Says TKO COO

WWE’s creative process is being shaped, at least in part, by artificial intelligence. TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro told staff during a Monday town hall that Nick Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque are leaning on AI tools to help guide storyline decisions, according to audio of the internal call obtained by Post Wrestling.

Shapiro framed AI adoption as a “major priority” for the company, pointing to its potential to make employees more efficient and citing UFC’s existing use of AI for fighter rankings as an internal proof point.

    Shapiro’s Comments on WWE Creative

“Nick Khan and Triple H are using AI for storylines with the WWE,” Shapiro said. “What’s resonating? What superstars are resonating? In what pockets of the country are they resonating? That helps us with, obviously, our content, our editorial, our creative, our mapping, our touring, and of course, maximizing revenue and getting our product out to the fans most in need of it.”

The framing positions AI not as a script-writing tool but as a market-research engine feeding creative decisions. Which talent is over in which markets, what storylines are landing with the audience, and where to route the touring schedule are all questions Shapiro indicated AI is now helping answer.

It also follows weeks of public messaging from Shapiro about TKO’s grip on WWE. Earlier this month, Shapiro told a University of Alabama class that TKO has “complete control” over WWE creative, on the record acknowledgment of a chain of command fans had spent weeks debating after WrestleMania 42.

TKO CFO Says It’s Still Early

TKO Chief Financial Officer Andrew Schleimer also addressed AI during the same town hall, offering a more measured view. Schleimer said the company has only run “tests and pilots” so far and remains in the early stages of implementation, with current uses focused on data and analytics for WWE and UFC consumers, plus minor broadcast enhancements.

The disclosure lands at a moment when Triple H’s grip on creative has just been formally locked in. PWInsider reported earlier this week that Paul Levesque signed a new multi-year deal to remain WWE Chief Content Officer, with TKO publicly endorsing his work in the role despite ongoing fan criticism over recent creative decisions.

    Context for the AI Push

The AI commentary was one of several headlines from the town hall. Khan also told staff that WWE is “monitoring” the security situation in the Middle East ahead of Night of Champions on June 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and acknowledged that running back-to-back WrestleManias in Las Vegas was “ultimately my decision,” conceding the company may not repeat that choice.

WWE communications staff did not immediately respond to Post Wrestling’s request for comment.

  • Kairi Sane Pushes Back On WWE Release Speculation

Kairi Sane Pushes Back On WWE Release Speculation

Kairi Sane is pushing back. Days after her shock release from WWE, and with reports framing her exit as a personal decision to move back to Japan, the Pirate Princess has surfaced with a follow-up message that directly addresses the speculation surrounding her departure.

Posting from her @KAIRI_official account, Sane appeared to take aim at the narrative that she had stepped away from her work or her commitment to the company.

“What I can say is I know there’s been a lot of speculation, but I truly love this work, my teammates, and my fans,” Sane wrote. “I’ve never walked away, and I’ve given my all in everything I do. I hope you’re all doing well.”

A Direct Response To The “She Wanted To Leave” Reports

The timing and tone of the post are notable. Earlier this week, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the reason for Sane’s release was that she had “kind of indicated that she wanted to move back” to Japan, with Meltzer adding that the decision was not financial. PWInsider followed up by reporting that Sane had already returned to Japan and that there were no plans to reverse the release.

Sane’s wording stops short of calling those reports inaccurate, but the phrase “I’ve never walked away” reads as a clear pushback against any framing that paints her exit as voluntary or a step back from the business.

    Fans Continue To Make Noise

The response from the fanbase has been one of the loudest of any release in recent memory. The hashtag #WeWantKairi trended throughout the weekend, and on Monday night, “We Want Kairi” chants broke out at the Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas, when Asuka attacked IYO Sky to set up their Backlash match.

Sane was a central figure in that ongoing storyline, with the angle building toward a long-rumored Sane turn on Asuka that will now never happen on WWE television. According to further reporting, WWE has no intention of reversing the decision, with the company reportedly looking to let the chants fade in a similar way to how it handled the Karrion Kross situation last year.

What’s Next For The Pirate Princess

Sane was in her second WWE run, having returned at Crown Jewel in November 2023. She is a former NXT Women’s Champion, the 2017 Mae Young Classic winner, and a multi-time Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Asuka as the Kabuki Warriors. Her first stint with the company ended at the close of 2021, after which she returned to Stardom in Japan.

She was released on April 24 as part of WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts, a wave of departures that also included Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Santos Escobar, the Motor City Machine Guns, and the entire Wyatt Sicks faction. With her contract now up and her statement leaning into love of the work rather than a goodbye, the door appears wide open for her next chapter, wherever that may be.

  • Liv Morgan Stars in Second Morgan & Morgan Commercial Spot

Liv Morgan Stars in Second Morgan & Morgan Commercial Spot

Liv Morgan is back on TV screens for more than just her Women’s World Championship run. The WWE Women’s World Champion has filmed a second commercial for Morgan & Morgan, the official law firm partner of WWE, and the new spot is now airing.

In the new ad, Morgan appears in a family’s home serving food she has cooked. The family declines to challenge a tough presence in their kitchen, drawing a parallel to the logic behind hiring the firm to handle your legal matters. The spot is part of Morgan & Morgan’s “Power Move” campaign, which the firm launched nationally in February 2026 across broadcast, digital, audio, and out-of-home.

It is Morgan’s second commercial appearance for the firm. Her first spot, also in the “Power Move” series, is available on YouTube below.

A Growing Partnership Between WWE and Morgan & Morgan

Morgan & Morgan was named WWE’s inaugural Official Law Firm Partner in April 2025 as part of a multi-year deal with TKO Group Holdings. The firm had an existing relationship with TKO through UFC and PBR prior to the WWE agreement.

Morgan is among the latest WWE Superstars to land outside brand work as the company’s mainstream profile has grown during the Netflix era. The Women’s World Champion has become one of WWE’s most in-demand names for outside entertainment opportunities after signing with Paradigm Talent Agency.

She captured the Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 42 earlier this month, defeating Stephanie Vaquer on Night One in Las Vegas.

  • Motor City Machine Guns Expected to Sign with AEW After WWE Exit

Motor City Machine Guns Expected to Sign with AEW After WWE Exit

The Motor City Machine Guns are expected to sign with AEW following their WWE release last Friday. According to Fightful Select, sources believe Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin will eventually land in Tony Khan’s promotion, though no deal has been confirmed yet.

Shelley and Sabin confirmed their WWE exit via social media while promoting their band’s new EP. The duo had signed with WWE in September 2024 and captured the SmackDown Tag Team Titles a month later.

Sources at TNA told Fightful they remain open to a Motor City Machine Guns return. However, those same sources expect the team to ultimately choose AEW over a TNA comeback.

Motor City Machine Guns History with TNA and AEW

The tag team spent the bulk of their careers in TNA from 2007 to 2012 before returning for brief stints starting in 2022. Between their TNA return and working independent promotions, Shelley and Sabin made their AEW debut in 2022.

They competed in a six-man tag team match at AEW All Out, partnering with Jay Lethal against FTR and Wardlow. The appearance marked their first exposure to AEW’s audience.

The Motor City Machine Guns’ WWE run lasted approximately seven months. Their release came as part of the company’s latest round of talent cuts.

  • Oba Femi Launches Weekly Open Challenge On WWE Raw

Oba Femi Launches Weekly Open Challenge On WWE Raw

Oba Femi has announced a new weekly initiative on WWE Raw. On the April 27, 2026 episode from Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas, Femi declared that “The Oba Femi Open Challenge will commence,” opening the door to all comers on the red brand.

The move formalizes Femi’s status as a leader on Raw following his WrestleMania 42 win over Brock Lesnar. Rather than chase a single feud out of the gate, The Ruler is positioning himself as a weekly destination, daring any superstar to step up.

It is a familiar device, evoking the Open Challenges that helped elevate stars like John Cena and Sheamus during their respective US Title runs. The difference here is that Femi is doing it without a championship around his waist, using the format itself as the platform.

    Building Off The WrestleMania Moment

Femi rose to prominence by accepting Brock Lesnar’s open challenge, defeating The Beast at WrestleMania 42 Night 2 on April 19 in Las Vegas. After kicking out of an F5 and connecting with the Fall From Grace for the win, Femi watched as Lesnar removed his gloves and boots in the center of the ring, a gesture widely read as a retirement signal.

The following night on the Raw after WrestleMania, Femi opened the show with a four-word statement: “The Ruler has arrived.” Tonight’s announcement gives that proclamation a structure.

Instead of waiting for storylines to come to him, Femi is generating his own, a smart use of his momentum during a period when WWE creative is reportedly weighing him as a potential WrestleMania 43 main eventer.

With Backlash three weeks away on May 9, the Open Challenge format gives WWE a flexible runway to test opponents, build heat, and decide where Femi’s first main roster title pursuit will land.

  • Loud “We Want Kairi” Chants Erupt During Asuka Attack On Raw

Loud “We Want Kairi” Chants Erupt During Asuka Attack On Raw

The Laredo crowd let WWE know exactly how it feels about Kairi Sane’s release.

Loud “We Want Kairi” chants broke out during Monday’s episode of Raw at Sames Auto Arena, ringing out as Asuka stood over a downed IYO Sky following a Women’s Intercontinental Championship match.

The segment came after Becky Lynch, fresh off her WrestleMania 42 win over AJ Lee, issued an open challenge for the Women’s Intercontinental Title. IYO Sky answered the call. After Lynch retained the championship, Asuka attacked Sky and locked in a submission, choking her out as the Laredo fans began chanting for the recently released Sane.

Kairi Sane’s Release Looms Over The Storyline

Sane was among the WWE roster cuts announced on April 24, departing in the middle of an active storyline with Asuka and IYO Sky. The angle had centered on Asuka manipulating Sane and isolating her from Sky, with fans expecting a payoff at WrestleMania 42 that never came.

Per Fightful Select, Sane’s release was met with frustration backstage given the unresolved nature of the program. The hashtag #WeWantKairi has trended on social media since her departure, even drawing brief support from WWE broadcaster Jackie Redmond, and the Laredo crowd’s chants made the campaign audible inside the arena.

According to PWInsider, Sane has already returned to Japan, ruling out any immediate WWE return. She is bound by a 90-day non-compete clause before she can sign elsewhere.

Asuka Vs. IYO Sky Set for Backlash

The Asuka vs. IYO Sky program has been announced for Backlash on May 9 in Tampa. With Sane out of the picture, WWE is reshaping the feud as a direct singles confrontation between the two former Damage CTRL members.

  • Ric Flair Publicly Apologizes to Ludwig Kaiser After WrestleMania Ban

Ric Flair Publicly Apologizes to Ludwig Kaiser After WrestleMania Ban

Ric Flair has publicly apologized to Ludwig Kaiser, walking back his previous comments about the WWE star in a post on X on Monday afternoon.

“Mr. Ludwig Kaiser, I never implied that you couldn’t work, or didn’t have talent. I actually understand that you are doing really well with The Undertaker’s promotion,” Flair wrote. “I am sorry that I got upset. I am naturally very protective of my daughters as I am sure as you grow older, you will be too.”

Flair continued: “I apologize for anything I said about you personally. It was not about your professional skill which I have heard is very good.”

    What Led to the Apology

The apology comes weeks after Flair revealed that a confrontation with Kaiser was the reason WWE did not invite him to WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Flair previously admitted to threatening Kaiser, saying his protective instincts as a father got the better of him. WWE reportedly responded by pulling his WrestleMania invitation.

The reference to Kaiser “doing really well with The Undertaker’s promotion” is a nod to WWE AAA, where Undertaker is heavily involved behind the scenes and Kaiser, well…

Flair’s decision to issue the public apology suggests an effort to mend fences, both with Kaiser personally and potentially with WWE as the company moves forward after WrestleMania season.

  • Chelsea Green Lobbies For AAA General Manager Role

Chelsea Green Lobbies For AAA General Manager Role

Chelsea Green is making it clear she wants in on AAA’s upcoming leadership change, responding to the lucha libre promotion’s General Manager search from the sidelines.

AAA announced that owner Marisela Peña will appoint a new General Manager on May 23 in Mexico City. Green quote-tweeted the announcement with a simple message: “I’ll be waiting,” alongside a phone emoji.

    Sidelined But Not Silent

Green has been out of action with an ankle injury that kept her off the WrestleMania 42 card entirely. While her timeline for an in-ring return remains unclear, the tweet suggests she has no intention of staying quiet while she recovers.

WWE and AAA have maintained a working relationship in recent years, with talent occasionally appearing across both promotions. Whether Green’s post is a genuine push for the role, a playful character moment, or a hint at something more remains to be seen.

Green was also among the WWE stars who reacted emotionally to the post-WrestleMania roster cuts last week, showing her investment in the locker room even while injured. Her willingness to insert herself into the AAA conversation fits the self-promotional character that has made her one of WWE’s most entertaining personalities on social media.

  • WWE LFG Format Change Revealed on Season 3 Premiere

WWE LFG Format Change Revealed on Season 3 Premiere

Shawn Michaels revealed a sweeping format change for WWE LFG during the Season 3 premiere on A&E Sunday night, confirming the show is moving away from its teams-and-points competition structure entirely.

Opening the season alongside Matt Bloom, Booker T, and Bubba Ray Dudley, Michaels made clear the new priority is pipeline building over competition.

“I kind of want to do away with the points and the teams,” he said, citing injuries and roster changes as reasons WWE needs more NXT-ready talent available at any moment.

Under the new format, competitors will no longer be working toward a single contract earned through a bracket system. Instead, talent can be called up to NXT television at any point throughout the season, with no set timeline for when appearances might happen.

Michaels also addressed the absence of The Undertaker, who featured prominently in Seasons 1 and 2. According to Michaels, The Undertaker has been written off the show due to his commitments helping run AAA.

New Coaching Lineup for Season 3

Joining returning coaches Booker T and Bubba Ray Dudley this season are Kevin Owens and Natalya, replacing Michelle McCool and The Undertaker from the previous season. Owens is participating while recovering from neck surgery, taking on a mentorship role as he works toward his return to in-ring action.

The season premiere also carried a notable storyline off-screen, as Carlee Bright revealed her WWE departure just hours before the episode aired. WWE LFG Season 3 airs Sundays on A&E.

    Seth Rollins Opens the Show

Tonight is the first chance for The Visionary to address the betrayal directly.

Roman Reigns Responds to Jacob Fatu’s Backlash Challenge

World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns is in Laredo to answer Jacob Fatu’s challenge for Backlash. The Usos pushed back on Fatu during the following SmackDown, leaving Reigns to make his own call on whether to grant the match.

    Penta vs. Rusev

Intercontinental Champion Penta meets Rusev in non-title singles action. Rusev cost Je’Von Evans a match against Ethan Page on last week’s Raw, then locked Penta in the Accolade and posed with the Intercontinental Championship after the assist. Tonight’s bout is the first measuring stick for what Rusev wants from the title scene heading into Backlash.

Bayley and Lyra Valkyria vs. Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez (w/ Liv Morgan)

Bayley and Lyra Valkyria face Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez in tag action, with Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan in the corner of her Judgment Day partners. Joe Hendry Holds His First Raw Concert

Joe Hendry makes his official Raw debut tonight after WWE confirmed his promotion to the main roster last week. Hendry is set to celebrate the call-up with a live concert, the first segment of its kind on Raw. He follows Sol Ruca and Ethan Page on the latest wave of NXT call-ups to the red brand.

Becky Lynch Returns as Women’s Intercontinental Champion

Becky Lynch is back on Raw for the first time since defeating AJ Lee at WrestleMania 42 to become a three-time Women’s Intercontinental Champion. The win also moved Lynch past AJ on the all-time WrestleMania victories list among women. Whether tonight’s appearance is a celebration, a callout, or a setup for her first defense, expect The Man to use the microphone.

WWE Backlash 2026 takes place Saturday, May 9 at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Tonight’s Raw is the second show on the road to Backlash, and the Reigns segment is expected to officially lock in the World Heavyweight Championship match for the card. Additional Backlash announcements are possible across the women’s, intercontinental, and tag team divisions as WWE fills out the Tampa lineup.

  • Erick Rowan Breaks Silence After WWE Release

Erick Rowan Breaks Silence After WWE Release

    Erick Rowan

Erick Rowan has broken his silence following his WWE release last week. The former Tag Team Champion shared an emotional video on social media Sunday, reflecting on his time with Bray Wyatt and The Wyatt Family.

Rowan posted the same video package that originally aired on WWE Monday Night RAW in July 2024 to introduce The Wyatt Sicks. The clip features Rowan opening up about the hardships he has faced in recent years.

In the video, Rowan recalls being part of a close-knit family that always had each other’s backs. He speaks about losing someone he considered a brother, a man who believed in him more than anyone else.

    The Wyatt Sicks Release

Rowan says in the video that he has found a renewed sense of purpose. He adds that they would “take our broken hearts and make some beautiful art.”

All members of The Wyatt Sicks were released by WWE last week. The group included Rowan, Bo Dallas as Uncle Howdy, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis, and Nikki Cross.

The Wyatt Sicks’ final match took place on the April 17 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. They were defeated by The MFTs in a Street Fight.

Carlee Bright Reveals Surprise WWE Departure Hours Before LFG Premiere

Carlee Bright is the latest name added to WWE’s growing list of post-WrestleMania 42 departures, and she revealed the news herself on Sunday evening, just hours before her appearance on Season 3 of WWE LFG aired on A&E.

Bright was not on any of the originally reported lists from Friday’s roster cuts, which included Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, the entire Wyatt Sicks faction, and roughly 25 other talents. She broke the news through an Instagram post on Sunday night.

“Tonight, you’ll see me on Season 3 of WWE LFG,” Bright wrote. “What you won’t see…is that just two days ago, my time with WWE has officially come to an end.”

    Bright Reflects on WWE Run

Bright, whose real name is Kennedy Cummins, signed with WWE following the company’s SummerSlam tryouts in August 2022 and reported to the Performance Center that November. She debuted under the Carlee Bright name on NXT Level Up in January 2024 before graduating to the main NXT television program.

“This wasn’t how I imagined this chapter ending, but if there’s one thing this journey taught me, it’s how to fight through uncertainty and the moments that test who you really are,” Bright wrote.

“From all the hours filming, hair spray and makeup, long drives, and intense training days, I really did feel like my very own Hannah Montana, living the best of both worlds.”

Bright’s last WWE match took place on the February 4 episode of WWE EVOLVE. She had spent recent months as a featured competitor on the Tubi-based developmental brand while also being filmed for LFG Season 3.

    LFG Appearance Still Airing

Despite the timing, Bright will still appear throughout Season 3 of Legends and Future Greats, which premieres Sunday night at 10:00 PM ET on A&E. The new season features Kevin Owens as a coach alongside Booker T, Bubba Ray Dudley, and Natalya, with the show shifting to an “every man or woman for themselves” format.

Bright is the second confirmed LFG Season 3 cast member to be released this week. Sirena Linton was named in Friday’s reported cuts, and 2025 LFG winner Tyra Mae Steele was also let go.

“Lastly, to sweet, baby Kenny, you did it. You made it farther than you ever thought you would,” Bright wrote, referring to her childhood self. “You lived out your childhood dream, and that makes me truly feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”

Bright closed her message by signaling her career is far from over: “Mom and dad didn’t raise a quitter. This chapter may be closing, but my story is far from finished.”

Nikki Cross Pays Tribute to Wyatt Sicks, Bray Wyatt After WWE Release

Nikki Cross has broken her silence on her WWE release, sharing an emotional tribute to the Wyatt Sicks and honoring the memories of Bray Wyatt and Brodie Lee.

Cross, who was released by WWE on April 24 as part of a post-WrestleMania 42 round of cuts, took to social media with a lengthy statement reflecting on her time as Abby the Witch in the Wyatt Sicks faction. The entire stable, including Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas), Joe Gacy, Erick Rowan, and Dexter Lumis, was released in the same wave of cuts.

“Wyatts. Abby. It was the honour of a lifetime. Forever I will hold onto you,” Cross wrote. “Our raggedy torn dirty white bloodstained dress and the cracked mask that showed off the scars but never broken.”

Cross gave particular attention to the late Wyatt and Brodie Lee, writing that their presence was felt every night the group performed.

“Every night we performed for you all, it felt like Bray and Brodie were there, their hands on our shoulders,” she said.

She expressed gratitude to the Windham and Huber families, those who are the families of Wyatt and Lee respectively, as well as fellow Wyatt Sicks members Jason and Mandy. Cross also singled out Alexa Bliss, whose WrestleMania tribute she described as “beautiful and forever connected.”

Cross addressed the Fireflies, the fan base that supported the group, and closed with a promise to share more when she finds the right words.

“I’m struggling to find the right words to talk about our journey. In time I will, so please allow me to share photos which capture the words I don’t have currently. Please know that I love you all,” she wrote.

    A Decade With WWE

Cross joined WWE’s NXT brand in 2016 and spent a decade with the company. She held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship three times and won the Money in the Bank contract in 2021, cashing it in the following day to capture the Raw Women’s Championship. She joined the Wyatt Sicks in June 2024.

Per Fightful Select and PWInsider, the releases were part of a broader post-WrestleMania roster reduction. Joe Gacy also posted an emotional farewell, paying tribute to each member of the faction individually. Cross had not competed in a match since a holiday tour in December 2024.

Chelsea Green and former WWE wrestler Shelly Martinez also reacted to the announcement. The rights to Lucha Underground are currently owned by Lucha Underground LLC, which filed two trademarks related to the brand in January 2025.

    Tribute to Windham Rotunda’s Legacy

Gacy closed with a tribute to the late Windham Rotunda, the creative force behind the Wyatt Family legacy. “I just want to thank you for letting me in,” Gacy wrote. “Allowing me to be a part of all of this has been a true honor. I really can’t even believe I got to do this and be a part even a little in keeping your legacy alive.”

Gacy ended his statement with “See you in 90,” referencing WWE’s standard 90-day non-compete clause for released talent.
