  • Danny McBride Expanding MLW Role as Production Ramps Up for Weekly Series

Major League Wrestling is significantly expanding its production capabilities and on-air talent roster, with actor Danny McBride\’s existing partnership taking on a more prominent role.

SEScoops has learned that McBride will become a regular fixture on MLW broadcasts going forward, with his Don Gato character featured in ongoing vignettes throughout programming. The expanded presence also includes McBride\’s Don Gato Tequila being served at upcoming MLW events.

The increased visibility for McBride coincides with major behind-the-scenes developments at the promotion. MLW is actively staffing up its post-production team amid rumors of a new weekly series project in development. Sources indicate the promotion is currently seeking backstage correspondents specifically for the rumored weekly programming.

McBride, known for his work on HBO\’s \”Eastbound & Down\” and \”The Righteous Gemstones,\” has maintained a relationship with MLW through his Don Gato character. The expanded role suggests MLW is leveraging McBride\’s mainstream entertainment credibility as the promotion positions itself for a programming upgrade.

The simultaneous production expansion and talent search strongly indicate MLW is preparing for a significant increase in content output. While the promotion has not officially confirmed plans for a weekly series, the infrastructure buildout and elevated star power point to ambitious expansion plans in the works.

  • TNA Wrestling Nears Major TV Rights Deal for 2026 Launch

TNA Wrestling President Carlos Silva has confirmed the company is actively finalizing a significant television rights agreement set to begin in January 2026. Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Silva revealed the deal has progressed beyond preliminary discussions.

\”We\’re no longer just talking. We\’re now in the middle of the deal,\” he stated, adding that both parties are enthusiastic about the partnership.

\”We just kind of got to get through the paperwork, understand certain deal terms and push and pull from both sides.\”

TNA Making an Impact in 2026

The timing proves crucial for TNA\’s strategic planning. \”The deal that we\’re contemplating starts at the beginning of 2026. Being October 1st, the timing is great. We can get some things done, dot the I\’s, cross the T\’s, and then really put our efforts around marketing and packaging,\” Silva explained.

The new agreement comes as TNA expands its operational model for 2026. Silva confirmed plans to increase live programming while maintaining some taped content. \”We\’re going to continue to do more live in 2026,\” he said, noting the company is studying successful models like WWE\’s NXT Performance Center to balance live weekly programming with operational efficiency.

Silva emphasized TNA won\’t rush to full weekly live broadcasts immediately but aims to grow strategically. \”I don\’t think we\’ll be going live 52 weeks a year in 2026 yet, but certainly we want to be live every week,\” he stated.

  • TNA President Addresses Joe Hendry\’s Status Amid Expected WWE Jump

TNA Wrestling President Carlos Silva has clarified Joe Hendry\’s contractual status following recent speculation about the breakout star\’s relationship with WWE.

During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Silva directly addressed questions about Hendry\’s future.

    \”He\’s still a TNA guy,\” Silva confirmed.

Silva praised Hendry\’s contributions across both promotions. \”Joe\’s been great for us, Joe\’s been great with WWE and NXT. We\’ll continue to work through that together as good partners do,\” he explained, before reiterating Hendry\’s current status: \”He is [TNA], until he\’s not, but you know, he is.\”

The clarification comes amid TNA\’s expanding partnership with WWE and NXT. Silva described the relationship as a long-term strategic play rather than short-term collaboration.

\”We entered into the partnership to make it bigger than just the way it starts. You start dating, you go to the movies, you go to dinner; it takes time,\” he noted.

Despite the crossover success, Silva emphasized TNA\’s commitment to maintaining its distinct identity. \”We\’re playing the long game here. Inside of all of that, though, we\’re still TNA and we\’ve always been TNA,\” he stated. \”WWE and NXT both understand that TNA is its own property. Everyone\’s got to have your own property because that\’s how you build the foundation.\”

Joe Hendry and the TNA-NXT Connection

Joe Hendry\’s crossover appearances in WWE NXT served as a crucial precursor to the ongoing TNA-NXT Invasion storyline. After his viral NXT debut in June 2024, Hendry became an increasingly prominent figure, competing in both TNA and WWE events. His appearances included challenging for the NXT Championship at No Mercy, entering the Royal Rumble as the first reigning TNA champion to compete, and sharing the WrestleMania 41 stage with Randy Orton, where he made a surprise appearance as Orton\’s mystery opponent. These high-profile NXT and WWE showings helped establish Hendry as a key link between the two promotions, laying foundation for the Invasion angle that would see TNA and NXT rosters collide in 2025.

  • Sareee Makes Surprise Ring of Honor Debut at October 1 TV Tapings

Japanese wrestling star Sareee made her Ring of Honor debut on Wednesday at the promotion\’s TV tapings, which took place just before AEW Dynamite\’s 6th Anniversary show went live.

The 29-year-old veteran brings significant international experience to ROH\’s women\’s division. Sareee began her career at age 15 in Japan, working primarily with World Woman Pro-Wrestling Diana from 2011 to 2020, where she became a two-time Diana World Champion.

In 2020, WWE signed Sareee, and she performed on the NXT brand under the ring name Sarray from 2021 to 2023. Her WWE tenure ended due to creative differences, and she departed in March 2023.

Since returning to Japan, Sareee has worked across multiple promotions including Seadlinnng, Stardom, and Dream Star Fighting Marigold, where she became the inaugural Marigold World Champion. She currently holds both the IWGP Women\’s Championship and the Sukeban World Championship (as Sareee Bomb), making her one of the most decorated active wrestlers on the independent scene.

Her ROH appearance marks a potential expansion into AEW-affiliated programming and could signal additional U.S. bookings for the multi-time champion.

  • WWE Files Trademark for \”SHOWDOWN\” as Rebranded NXT vs. TNA Event Name

World Wrestling Entertainment has filed a new trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the name \”SHOWDOWN,\” marking a strategic rebrand of its upcoming crossover event scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

The event, which will feature competitors from both NXT and TNA, was originally planned under the name \”INVASION.\” However, WWE made the decision to change the title due to sensitivity concerns surrounding the October 7 date, which marks the anniversary of the 2023 attack on Israel by Hamas, an ongoing conflict with hostages still held in captivity.

According to USPTO records, the new \”SHOWDOWN\” trademark application was filed on September 30, 2025, and is currently awaiting examination. The application covers entertainment services related to professional wrestling events, broadcast media, and sports entertainment information.

    WWE NXT Showdown

This marks WWE\’s return to the \”SHOWDOWN\” brand after a previous iteration. The company had held a trademark for \”WWE SHOWDOWN\” that was filed in November 2011, but that registration was abandoned in July 2015 due to inactivity after WWE failed to file required statements of use.

The NXT vs. TNA crossover event represents a significant collaboration between WWE\’s developmental brand and the independent promotion, generating considerable interest among professional wrestling fans. The name change demonstrates WWE\’s awareness of global events and commitment to avoiding potential controversy surrounding the event\’s branding.

  • Bully Ray Agrees With WWE Changing NXT Invasion PLE Name

Wrestling veteran Bully Ray has voiced his support for WWE\’s decision to rename the NXT vs TNA premium live event from \”Invasion\” to \”Showdown,\” explaining why the original name never made sense from a storyline perspective.

Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Ray questioned the logic behind calling it an invasion when the two brands have been collaborating for months. \”I was scratching my head about the whole \’Invasion\’ name. Because how do you have an invasion when just a couple of months ago—maybe six months ago, however long—it\’s been, these two brands have been working together?\” he explained.

Ray emphasized that this situation differs significantly from past wrestling invasions. \”This wasn\’t like the ECW/WCW invasion of WWE back in the day. This wasn\’t like any type of invasion storyline or angle we\’re used to seeing. These are two brands that have gotten together, brand new relationship, and now things are starting to go a little bit wrong.\”

The name change came after backlash over the original title\’s negative connotations and its proximity to the anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attacks. Ray believes \”Showdown\” better captures the competitive nature of two collaborative brands whose relationship has turned contentious.

\”So it\’s no longer an invasion. It\’s a showdown, which I think is a far better name for this upcoming PLE—Showdown instead of Invasion,\” Ray concluded.

  • Robert Patrick Told John Cena He Could Be The Next Terminator

Robert Patrick believes John Cena has what it takes to become the next Terminator, a sentiment he first expressed to the WWE G.OA.T nearly two decades ago.

The actor, who memorably portrayed the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, revealed in a new interview with Monopoly Events that he pitched the idea to Cena while they were filming WWE Studios\’ The Marine in 2006.

\”Oh, I told John that early on when we were doing the Marine,\” Patrick said. \”I said, when I was doing the Marine with him, I said, \’you could be the next Terminator, man.\’ He could be. He\’d be great.\”

The Marine marked one of Cena\’s first major acting roles, launching what would become a successful transition from WWE Superstar to Hollywood actor. Nearly 20 years later, the pair have reunited on screen for Peacemaker Season 2, which is currently airing on Amazon Prime Video.

Patrick\’s endorsement carries significant weight given his iconic status in the Terminator franchise. While no official plans exist for Cena to join the series, the veteran actor\’s confidence in Cena\’s abilities speaks to the physical presence and charisma the 16-time WWE Champion brings to action roles.

Interestingly, Cena recently admitted he didn\’t take filming of The Marine seriously at the time, viewing it primarily as a promotional vehicle for WWE. His career trajectory since then suggests Patrick\’s early assessment was prescient.

  • Tony Khan Talks MJF, Toni Storm, and Leading AEW’s Next Era

In a compelling new episode of Going Ringside, Scott Johnson sits down with AEW Owner Tony Khan for a wide-ranging conversation covering the company’s homecoming in Jacksonville, the star power of the AEW roster, and the boundary-breaking rise of stars MJF and Toni Storm into national pop culture.

AEW boasts one of the richest rosters in professional wrestling, but two names stand out for their recent forays into mainstream entertainment: MJF and Toni Storm. Tony Khan himself highlighted both as examples of AEW’s ability to nurture stars who are crossing into movie stardom while still excelling inside the ring.

    MJF: Wrestling’s Hollywood Breakthrough

Tony Khan spoke passionately about MJF’s transformation from wrestling star to legitimate Hollywood actor:

“MJF\’s a huge, huge wrestling star and now he\’s becoming a star of movies. He got a great role playing Happy Gilmore\’s son in Happy Gilmore 2. Happy Gilmore 2 is the most watched movie in America this year. And MJF\’s a big part of the movie… He\’s filming another movie right now. For AEW, the executives, we are proud of what MJF is doing.

Even if he\’s not the most popular guy with some of the fans or the other wrestlers, he\’s a huge part of AEW and he\’s working really hard. He just had two incredible matches last weekend in two different countries.”

Khan didn’t shy away from MJF’s divisive persona.

“MJF\’s not the most popular guy backstage… most of the wrestlers don\’t really like him very much… but everybody is very impressed with what he\’s doing. He is a really hardworking guy and I am very impressed with MJF. I think he\’s an incredible wrestling talent when he focuses on the wrestling.

I think MJF is one of the best, but he always takes shortcuts. He\’s always trying to cheat his way to the top. And I don\’t even think he needs to… he\’s really gifted wrestler and a student of wrestling, a student of acting now and he\’s doing a great job with it.”

    Toni Storm: Timeless Star Power

AEW’s Timeless Toni Storm represents a different kind of crossover excellence – one blending wrestling charisma with classic Hollywood stardom. Khan shared,

“She is an icon and I think that that iconic presence was always inside of her… She was at the time in her mid 20s yet she had this timeless presence that she was going to clearly have throughout her career. This aura, this way of speaking, all these things that Toni Storm brings.

She\’s an incredible wrestler and she\’s so charismatic and the fans respect her. This transition she\’s made to timeless Toni Storm – she\’s found the classic movie star inside of herself and she\’s become the first wrestler… to be on TCM Turner Classic Movies. She is truly a timeless movie star, a timeless wrestler and a great, great charismatic presence.”

He also called her one of the biggest stars in wrestling and specifically praised her recent matches against Mercedes Monaet and her role in AEW’s “great 2025.”

Leadership, Multi-Tasking, and Surviving WWE’s Competition

As AEW continues to battle the global wrestling giant WWE—especially during overlapping live event nights—Khan reflected on the resilience and innovation that define AEW’s approach:

“We\’re having a great year. We\’ve been able to stick and move and make it work really well for us. There\’s always going to be tough competition and in this sport, it\’s very tough competition… We\’ve really grown the audience in 2025. Not only have we added HBO Max and put new viewers on streaming, we\’ve got more people watching the shows on cable than we did last year… It\’s kind of the opposite of what the analysts had predicted when we started Simo Casting.”

Regarding his demanding schedule running AEW, the Jaguars, and Fulham FC:

“It\’s really hard, but I do love it. I love the stuff I do. And I love being on call for football, for pro wrestling. I\’m very lucky to work in the NFL and the Premier League and AEW. And all those things are going really well in 2025.

We\’re having a great start to the Jags season. Fulham are off to a great start with their season. And AEW… it\’s been a great 2025 for AW. I just want to work hard and keep working hard to keep it going strong for AEW and the Jags and Fulham.”

Tony Khan’s passion and vision for AEW shine through in this conversation – as does his pride in a roster that’s not just dominant in the ring but is making waves far beyond. MJF and Toni Storm exemplify the kind of crossover excitement AEW is building, and Khan’s relentless multi-tasking shows why the company stands tall against even the stiffest competition.

As AEW heads for its Jacksonville homecoming and celebrates six years of Dynamite, its future looks brighter—and more star-studded—than ever.
