AEW Star’s Contract May Be Expiring

Big Bill’s AEW contract is believed to be expiring, with no indication yet that he has re-signed.

Sources who spoke with Fightful Select in April were of the belief that Bill’s deal was set to expire at the end of May or the start of June. He has not appeared on AEW or ROH television since that report.

He has been with AEW since 2022, debuting as an opponent for Wardlow. He went on to become AEW World Tag Team Champion alongside Ricky Starks before joining Chris Jericho’s Learning Tree faction. Most recently, he teamed with Bryan Keith as part of Paid In Full.

Before AEW, Morrissey spent seven years in WWE under the names Colin Cassady and Big Cass, rising to the main roster alongside Enzo Amore the night after WrestleMania 32. The duo won the NXT Year-End Award for Tag Team of the Year in 2015. He was released by WWE in June 2018 following a run on SmackDown that included a feud with Daniel Bryan. He spent time in Impact Wrestling in 2021 as W. Morrissey before landing in AEW the following year.

    No re-signing has been reported.

There’s A Reason Swerve Strickland Has A Lot To Say About Aleister Black’s Future

Swerve Strickland has weighed in on the future of Aleister Black and Zelina Vega following their WWE releases.

Speaking on Bootleg Kev, Strickland stopped short of advocating for or against Black returning to AEW. He focused instead on hoping Black and Vega land somewhere that fulfills them.

“I just hope that Aleister — I’ll speak to, I hope Tommy finds what he’s looking for in this industry, this part in his career. [Black and Vega are] both very talented, incredible people. Incredible talents in itself. I just hope they find something that gives them the type of — I don’t know what it is that he’s really [looking for], whatever it is, I hope they find some place that gives them that, you know what I mean?”

Strickland credited Black with having a significant influence on his own career development.

“Because he has so many great ideas. He’s one of the guys that got me into NXT. Like, him talking with Terry Taylor and he’s like, ‘This is the guy you gotta watch out for.’ I did tape studies with him in 2017. My last indie run, he was the guy I was going to. He really helped my mind a lot at that stage in my career. So I just hope, like, he finds the place that gives him whatever it is that can fulfill him in the industry again.”

Black and Vega were both released by WWE in April 2026. AEW has denied being in negotiations with Black for a return. Black previously left AEW in 2025 for WWE, and there are unconfirmed reports he was reluctant to lose matches during his AEW run — claims Black has denied.

  • Triple H is Aware of WWE’s Ad Placement Problem

Triple H is Aware of WWE’s Ad Placement Problem

Actor O’Shea Jackson Jr. told Triple H and Stephanie McMahon directly that WWE’s ad placement has become nearly unwatchable.

Jackson, a self-described WWE superfan and son of Ice Cube, appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show and described a conversation he had with Triple and McMahon around the start of 2026, following a guest appearance on McMahon’s podcast.

“I told this to Triple H and Stephanie when I did Stephanie’s show. I told them, the ads and the timing of them are horrendous. This was like five, six months ago or something crazy like that when I went to do Stephanie McMahon’s pod. Afterwards, because I did it at WWE headquarters, Triple H comes down, we’re all talking, and I brought up my transgressions. And I was like, ‘Dude, the ads are crazy. Like, it’s almost unwatchable.’ And, like, they know. It’s just about, they’re working on placement of them maybe.”

Jackson singled out entrances as a particular pain point.

“I get it, Roman Reigns’ entrance is seven minutes long, but that doesn’t mean that’s the time to throw the ads in. I should not — there should never be a moment where I miss IYO SKY’s entrance because ‘we are back from commercial break.’ It’s a level of respect for them. It’s fine in the middle of a match, but at least picture-in-picture me.”

Neither Triple H nor McMahon pushed back on his complaints. Fan frustration with ads peaked at WrestleMania 42, where WWE touted a record 32 marketing partners.

McMahon’s podcast episode with Jackson aired in January 2026. Jackson co-hosts “No-Contest Wrestling,” produced by ESPN and The Rich Eisen Show.

  • Top AEW Star To Miss Tonight’s Dynamite

Top AEW Star To Miss Tonight’s Dynamite

Chris Jericho will not appear on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Asheville, North Carolina, for legitimate reasons related to his touring schedule with FOZZY, not his wrestling storyline.

Jericho is in the midst of the band’s Twisted Faith 2026 Tour, with FOZZY scheduled to perform in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday night, the same evening as Dynamite. The remaining tour dates run through May 16 and include stops in Columbus, Philadelphia, St. Charles, and Flint.

His absence comes at a busy period storyline-wise. Jericho recently returned to AEW and is set for the Stadium Stampede match at AEW Double or Nothing 2026 later this month. During last week’s Dynamite, Ricochet challenged Jericho to join the chaotic match and predicted he would not be able to assemble a team. Jericho quickly proved that wrong, lining up Kenny Omega, Jack Perry, and The Young Bucks to join his side. They will face a team comprising Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, Toa Liona, and the Don Callis Family’s Mark Davis, with a fifth mystery participant still to be announced for the opposing side.

This is not the first recent Dynamite Jericho has missed for outside commitments. He was absent from the April 29 episode while filming in New York City, with that project later confirmed to be a guest appearance on Dexter: Resurrection on Paramount+.

The remaining FOZZY Twisted Faith 2026 Tour dates are May 12 in Philadelphia at Underground Arts, May 13 in Harrisburg at Capital City Music Hall, May 14 in Columbus at Sonic Temple, May 15 in St. Charles at Arcada Theatre, and May 16 in Flint at Machine Shop.

  • Chelsea Green Shares Recovery Update After SVT Operation

Chelsea Green Shares Recovery Update After SVT Operation

Chelsea Green has wasted no time celebrating a milestone in her recovery, announcing just one week after her heart procedure that she is off bed rest.

Green posted the update on X this morning alongside a photo of flower arrangements sent by friends and colleagues during her recovery week, including one from the WWE: Unreal docuseries team.

“1 week post op – off bed rest! One thing about me: sitting still is my nightmare. Thank you to everyone who called, texted, dm’d, etc. I felt very, very loved this week.”

Green underwent an SVT ablation procedure on May 4 to correct an irregular heartbeat known as supraventricular tachycardia, a condition that causes the heart’s upper chambers to beat abnormally fast. The condition had gone undetected for a decade before Green suffered an episode around WrestleMania 42 weekend in which her heart rate reached 228 beats per minute and remained elevated for nearly 15 minutes.

Despite being on bed rest throughout the week, Green maintained a presence on WWE programming through a social media video that aired on SmackDown last Friday. In it, she addressed Tiffany Stratton, with whom she has been building an on-screen friendship, and apologized for being unable to attend Stratton’s Women’s United States Championship defense against Kiana James, noting she had been trying to reach Stratton without success.

Green is a two-time Women’s United States Champion, with her second reign running from November 2025 to January 2026. An ankle injury has kept her out of in-ring competition since February, with the heart procedure adding a further recovery timeline on top of that setback.

  • WWE Star Posts Cryptic Farewell Message After Raw

WWE Star Posts Cryptic Farewell Message After Raw

Angel Garza ended Monday Night Raw by thanking fans for never jumping off the ship, a statement that landed with particular weight given everything that preceded it during the show.

Garza and his cousin Humberto Carrillo made a surprise appearance on Raw, only to be squashed by Oba Femi in a dominant two-on-one handicap match. The appearance itself was unexpected, given that both men are technically part of the SmackDown roster, with the Raw match being their first appearance on the Monday night show since a battle royal in 2023.

Shortly after Raw ended, Garza posted on X.

“Thank you to everyone who never jumped off the ship and kept supporting the Garza Legacy through it all.”

The combination of a surprise cross-brand appearance, a one-sided squash loss to one of WWE’s most protected rising stars, and a statement that reads more like a farewell than a routine post-show message all point in one direction. Bryan Alvarez had previously flagged both Garza and Carrillo as names to watch amid the ongoing wave of WWE roster cuts.

Garza and Carrillo made separate singles debuts on WWE’s main roster in 2019 and were paired as a team in 2021. Garza competed at WrestleMania 36, teaming with Austin Theory in a loss to the Street Profits. The two won the AAA World Tag Team Championships at Triplemania last June before losing the titles to Psycho Clown and Pagano in August. Since then they have appeared regularly on SmackDown, Main Event, and house shows, though their win-loss record has been largely one-sided, with Carrillo defeating Apollo Crews on Main Event in February standing as their only notable victory in recent months.

No official announcement has been made regarding their WWE status.

  • Stephen A. Smith Could Be Headed for a WWE Role

Stephen A. Smith Could Be Headed for a WWE Role

Stephen A. Smith’s involvement with WWE may be moving beyond promotional appearances and into something more significant, with Dave Meltzer reporting serious internal discussions about working with the ESPN personality and widespread support for the idea from people within the company.

Meltzer discussed the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, noting a notable difference between reactions to Smith and to Pat McAfee’s involvement in the WrestleMania 42 build.

The internal enthusiasm for Smith is notable, given the well-documented unhappiness among WWE staff over McAfee’s involvement in WrestleMania 42, which was reportedly pushed by TKO CEO Ari Emanuel rather than Triple H’s creative team. That the same group of people who objected to McAfee are actively in favor of Smith suggests a meaningful distinction in how he is perceived within the company.

Smith has already established a presence in WWE’s orbit. He collaborated with the promotion in the build to WrestleMania 42 through ESPN, with Danhausen cursing him ahead of Night One and Smith himself appearing in the crowd at the show where he was met with boos from the audience. ESPN Unlimited has been broadcasting WWE premium live events in the United States since Wrestlepalooza in September 2025.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select previously reported that ESPN sources were pleased and enthusiastic about the prospect of Smith becoming more formally involved in the WWE partnership, with a specific payoff to his involvement expected to materialize in summer 2026.

  • Ronda Rousey Calls Vince McMahon’s Era of WWE a ‘Shit Show’

Ronda Rousey Calls Vince McMahon’s Era of WWE a ‘Shit Show’

Ronda Rousey has given one of her most candid assessments of her time in WWE, describing creative suffocation, last-minute chaos, and a working environment that only got worse during her second run.

Speaking with Complex News ahead of her May 16 MMA return against Gina Carano on Netflix, Rousey reflected on what it actually felt like to work under Vince McMahon’s leadership.

“I felt like I was doing somebody else’s impression of myself. You can tell when I was allowed to write my own promos and when I wasn’t. I really enjoyed my time in the ring. I didn’t really enjoy being under the death throes of Vince McMahon’s reign.”

She pointed to the gap between the preparation given to her debut match and the preparation afforded the historic WrestleMania main event as the clearest example of misplaced priorities in how McMahon’s operation functioned.

“We had no time at all to put it together. We spent a year promoting it and like a day and a half putting it together. My debut match, we spent six weeks putting it together and we had all the best minds in the industry coming and giving their two cents. The main event milestone itself was incredible. The match unfortunately wasn’t as great as it could have been if we were able to put the same kind of preparation into it that I felt like it deserved.”

Rousey and Becky Lynch headlined WrestleMania 35 in April 2019 alongside Charlotte Flair in the first women’s main event in the show’s history.

Her second WWE run, she said, was even more chaotic than the first, with McMahon’s declining grip on reality producing a backstage atmosphere that nobody could navigate effectively.

“Vince was just more far gone and more difficult to work with and there was a lot of inner turmoil going on in the company. It was kind of a shit show and nobody ever knew what was going on. You would get to the arena and be made to do something that somebody threw in your lap that hadn’t thought about it until 15 minutes before. Any attempt to collaborate felt like we were trying to negotiate something as opposed to partnering together to make something great.”

Rousey faces Carano on Netflix on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood in what she has described as her final MMA fight.

  • Ronda Rousey Says Her AEW Appearance Gave Her the Freedom WWE Never Did

Ronda Rousey Says Her AEW Appearance Gave Her the Freedom WWE Never Did

Ronda Rousey’s surprise appearance at AEW Revolution in March gave her something she said her WWE tenure rarely provided, and she did not hold back in explaining the difference.

Speaking with Complex News ahead of her May 16 MMA return against Gina Carano on Netflix, Rousey described the AEW stop as a natural, unfiltered experience that stood in direct contrast to the creative restrictions she felt throughout her time under Vince McMahon.

“It didn’t hurt to be a little catty with it. It was so serendipitous that Marina Shafir is my best friend. We grew up doing judo together when we were little kids. One thing I really love about AEW is that it’s not PG like WWE. So I can walk in there and flick everybody off and walk out and laugh with my best friend and have a great time and not feel as edited as before.”

Rousey and Shafir’s friendship stretches back to childhood judo training, predating both women’s combat sports careers. Shafir, an active AEW roster member, served as Rousey’s connection into Tony Khan’s promotion. The Revolution appearance in March at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles saw Rousey enter after Shafir’s match with Toni Storm, confront Storm at ringside, and leave through the crowd with her friend in what became one of the more surprising moments of the show.

Tony Khan addressed the appearance at the post-show media scrum, keeping the description casual and noting that Shafir simply brought her in as backup. Rousey has not signed with AEW and no follow-up appearance has been confirmed by the promotion.

Rousey faces Carano on Netflix on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood in what she has described as her final MMA fight.

    Austin Creed and Kofi

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have booked their first public appearances since departing WWE, and they’re already moving away from their WWE identities.

The former New Day members are advertised for GalaxyCon Oklahoma City under the names “Kofi” and “Austin Creed.”

Kofi Appearance Info at GalaxyCon Oklahoma City

Austin Creed Appearance Info at GalaxyCon Oklahoma City

The pair are set to appear at GalaxyCon Oklahoma City on the weekend of May 22-24 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center, followed by GalaxyCon Nashville on May 29-31 at The Fairgrounds Nashville.

The use of “Austin Creed” for Woods is particularly notable. It is the name he used in his emotional farewell statement, where he signed off by saying he was walking away as Austin Creed rather than Xavier Woods.

Kingston being listed simply as “Kofi” suggests he is also separating from WWE’s intellectual property while retaining the first name fans associate with him.

What’s Next for the Former New Day?

The convention appearances will mark the first time fans can interact with the duo in person since their mutual parting from WWE on May 2. The departures came after TKO offered both men reduced contracts just one year into five-year extensions signed in 2025, per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Both declined and chose to walk away.

Kingston and Woods are believed to still be under 90-day non-compete clauses following their exits, which would prevent them from appearing on rival wrestling programming until approximately August. Convention appearances like GalaxyCon are not restricted under those terms.

Their departure has already drawn significant interest from AEW talent. MJF, FTR’s Cash Wheeler, and Swerve Strickland have all publicly expressed interest in seeing the duo join All Elite Wrestling, while The Usos posted their own tribute to the team they feuded with for the better part of a decade.

  • Ireland’s WWE WrestleMania Bid Faces Financial and Logistical Hurdles

Ireland’s WWE WrestleMania Bid Faces Financial and Logistical Hurdles

The push to bring WrestleMania to Ireland is being described as a serious, long-term project, but those close to the initiative are under no illusions about the obstacles that must be cleared before a credible bid can be submitted, according to Fightful Select’s Corey Brennan.

Sources close to the effort say the concept is achievable if the Irish government views the country as a global sporting hub and backs the bid accordingly. Organizers are pointing to the NFL’s successful games at Croke Park and the upcoming Manchester United and Leeds match in August as evidence that the 82,000-capacity Dublin stadium can host international events, dismissing the concerns raised by local residents near the venue.

Two challenges have been identified. The first is financial. Ireland would need to at least match the six-million-dollar bid Las Vegas submitted to secure WrestleMania, a figure that sources within the Irish wrestling community described as a roadblock. The second is practical. Croke Park has no roof, making unpredictable Irish weather a genuine logistical concern for an event of WrestleMania’s scale and production demands.

The economic case provides the strongest argument in the bid’s favor. Fightful was told the event could inject close to 300 million euros into the Irish economy, a figure that could carry weight when the formal pitch is made to government officials.

Kilkenny Councilor Maurice Shortall previously told the Irish Mirror that Ireland is well placed to make a competitive bid and has indicated plans to formally present the proposal to the Irish government. WrestleMania 43 is currently planned for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with Nashville also in discussions for a future year.

  • CM Punk Fans Will Have to Wait Longer for His WWE TV Return

CM Punk Fans Will Have to Wait Longer for His WWE TV Return

CM Punk was not backstage at WWE Backlash in Tampa and is not expected to appear on this week’s Raw in Knoxville, according to PWInsider, putting a dampener on the speculation that had been building around his potential involvement in Danhausen’s mystery partner storyline.

Punk’s name had become the top name attached to the angle after commentary hinted that Danhausen’s partner would be someone who “loves money,” a reference fans immediately connected to Punk. Danhausen’s public teasing of possible partners added further fuel, and the betting markets had Punk as the favorite heading into Backlash. Neither the match nor the backstage report produced any connection between Punk and the angle.

Punk has not appeared on WWE television since the April 20 episode of Raw. No timeline for his next appearance has been provided. Here is the card for Raw:

    • Acknowledgment Ceremony: Jacob Fatu acknowledges Roman Reigns
    • Oba Femi Open Challenge
    • The Street Profits and Joe Hendry vs. Bron Breakker, Logan Paul and Austin Theory
    • Brie Bella and Paige appear live
    • CM Punk to appear
    • Seth Rollins to appear
  • Brock Lesnar’s WWE Future May Not be Over

Brock Lesnar’s WWE Future May Not be Over

Brock Lesnar’s retirement from WWE may not be as final as the presentation at WrestleMania 42 suggested, with PWInsider reporting that Lesnar is still internally classified by the company as an active performer and free agent despite being moved to the alumni section on WWE.com.

Lesnar left his gloves and boots in the ring after losing to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 Night Two, with Paul Heyman watching emotionally from ringside in what appeared to be a farewell moment. WWE later aired tribute video packages on both Raw and SmackDown and added Lesnar to the forever section of SmackDown’s opening video, reinforcing the retirement presentation publicly.

Heyman later insisted to TMZ Sports that he had no advance knowledge of what was coming.

“If I knew he was gonna retire, would I have gone on record saying he was gonna dominate for the next 15 years? I was crying. Am I that good of an actor that I can cry on cue? Not I.”

PWInsider’s report that Lesnar remains listed internally as an active free agent, not assigned to either Raw or SmackDown, changes the picture considerably. WWE maintaining that classification leaves the possibility of another appearance open in a way that contradicts the farewell framing the company has presented publicly.

Whether that means one final match, a specific program, or simply WWE keeping options available as a precaution remains unclear. The door to another Brock Lesnar appearance in WWE does not appear to be fully closed.

  • Injured WWE Star was Backstage at Backlash

Injured WWE Star was Backstage at Backlash

Kevin Owens was backstage at WWE Backlash in Tampa on Saturday, according to PWInsider, marking a continued involvement with the company despite being sidelined from in-ring competition since his neck surgery last July.

Owens has been working behind the scenes on the WWE LFG project during his recovery and his Backlash presence reflects that ongoing connection to the business. He also delivered news that Canadian WWE fans have been waiting to hear, announcing a three-show return to Canada in August through a video posted to his X account.

“Hello, my name is Kevin Owens. You may know me from several wrestling matches I’ve had in the last 26 years or so. Not so much in the last year. I haven’t wrestled then. I had neck surgery. It was a whole thing.”

He then laid out the full tour schedule.

“WWE is coming back to Canada in August. Thursday, August 20th, London, Ontario, at the Canada Life Place. The next night, Friday, August 21st in Toronto, SmackDown. Friday night SmackDown. That’s going to be big. Scotia Bank Arena. And then Monday, August 24th. It’s Raw in Ottawa at the Canadian Tire Center.”

Owens also leaned into the timing of the announcement, noting it coincided with his birthday and the 26th anniversary of his first wrestling match.

“Think of it as like a birthday present from me to you, even though it’s my birthday. And also, I won’t be paying for the tickets. But, you know, in spirit. It’s a nice gesture. Go buy the tickets, go to the shows, have a blast. And I really miss you guys. And I mean that 100%.”

Tickets went on sale last week. No timeline for Owens’ return to in-ring competition has been announced.

  • Former AEW World Champion Eyes Hollywood Acting Career

Former AEW World Champion Eyes Hollywood Acting Career

Swerve Strickland has a list of action franchises he would love to be part of, and the depth of thought he has already put into acting. Speaking with TMZ Inside the Ring, Strickland explained that he has been studying film for years, not purely as a fan but as a performer seeking lessons he can apply to his wrestling work.

“Movies and cinema is like, that’s part of who I am, as far as like growing up on this side of the screen. Growing up on it, I’m a fan of a lot of actors. Daniel Day-Lewis, one of my favorite performers. Oh, tremendous. Like Edward Norton. Brad Pitt’s one of my favorites I’ve watched. I’ve studied a lot of these people. Studied Denzel, studied Damson Idris. Studied a lot of these guys, just watching a lot of these little nuances of what they do to take that into what I do.”

He was clear that converting that passion into a Hollywood career is an entirely different undertaking, one he wants to approach with the same preparation that has defined his wrestling development.

“Now to be where they are in their position, that’s a different monster, especially Hollywood in itself. So I would say it starts all over again. I got to understand and learn the craft first, to now find the passion. Then to tackle that to be ready for those opportunities.”

When asked which franchise he would most want to be part of, Strickland named three and explained the specific qualities of each that draw him in.

“If I had to choose one? It’s a lot. Honestly, I would like to be in the Extraction franchises. Like what Chris Hemsworth’s doing right now? Amazing camera work. And it looks like such challenging stunt work, such challenging stunt choreography. And being former military, that attracts me to it a lot. It’s like, ‘Man, what could I do in that universe?’ And then like the Man on Fire stuff with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, he’s killing it right now too. And I was like, ‘Man, imagine if I got thrown into that universe and that series.’”

He also singled out the John Wick franchise for its cinematographic innovation, citing a overhead sequence in John Wick 4 as an example of filmmaking that excites him as a student of the medium.

“The John Wick universe, like the gunplay and the manipulations of all like, the shot of the camera being above the set in John Wick 4 looking like — what’s the game? Hotline Miami. Like the over above, the shot with the fire shotgun and stuff. I’m like, ‘Who thinks of that and how do you pull that off so efficiently?’ So those things, I like. I look at a lot of camera work.”

Strickland returned to AEW television late last month with a vignette targeting Bandido, with Double or Nothing being discussed as a potential landing spot for the matchup.

  • John Cena Classic Announcement Was Made Before WWE Settled on What Event Actually Is

John Cena Classic Announcement Was Made Before WWE Settled on What Event Actually Is

The John Cena Classic announced at WWE Backlash on Saturday is still being developed in real time, with Dave Meltzer reporting in the Wrestling Observer Daily Update that WWE had not yet determined what the event would actually look like before making the announcement in Tampa.

According to Meltzer, the John Cena Classic has been described to him as a work in progress, with WWE wanting to make the reveal at Backlash and proceeding with the announcement before the full details had been ironed out. No date, location, or definitive format for the event has been confirmed by the company.

Cena described the concept during his Backlash segment as a series of main roster versus NXT matches in which a fan vote determines the winner of a new John Cena Classic Championship, regardless of the actual match result.

Speculation about the format has split in two directions since the announcement. One theory is a tournament structure where advancement is determined by popular vote rather than in-ring result. The other is a standalone card of main roster versus NXT bouts, with all participants eligible for a championship vote at the end. Meltzer noted that neither reading has been confirmed and both remain speculative.

Questions have also surfaced about the fan vote mechanics, specifically whether voting will be open to the general public or restricted to members of the Club WWE membership program that Cena announced alongside the Classic concept at Backlash. Cena has since acknowledged publicly that the concept carries the risk of being a complete failure.

  • Backstage Update on Asuka’s WWE Contract Status

Backstage Update on Asuka’s WWE Contract Status

Asuka’s WWE future is now the subject of uncertainty following WWE Backlash, with Dave Meltzer reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that the former champion is considered semi-retired, though the exact meaning of that status remains unclear.

“The story I heard is that she is semi-retired. I haven’t really gotten an exact meaning of what semi-retired means, but I guess people were wishing her goodbye and things like that backstage. So I don’t know if that means she’s going to Japan and still wrestle. I don’t know if that means she’s going to still do stuff here and there, but I was told semi-retired.”

The report adds an unexpected dimension to what took place at Backlash, where Asuka faced IYO SKY in a singles match that had been building for months following the release of Kairi Sane in the post-WrestleMania roster cuts. The backstage farewell atmosphere Meltzer described suggests those close to the situation were aware that something significant was changing for Asuka, regardless of the match outcome.

A separate update from Fightful complicates the picture further. According to their report, Asuka signed a long-term WWE deal in the summer of 2024, with most contracts signed during that period running for five years. The exact length of her specific deal is not confirmed, but a five-year agreement would run through 2029.

TKO has been actively seeking to restructure talent contracts across the roster in recent months, driven in part by a reduction in house shows and the reduced travel schedule that comes with fewer live events per month. Whether Asuka is among the names who have been approached about contract restructuring has not been confirmed, but the shift from full-time performer to semi-retired status would align with the kind of reduced arrangement TKO has been offering to other talents.

  • D’Von Dudley Says He Will Not Back Down From Forgiving Hulk Hogan Despite Fan Backlash

D’Von Dudley Says He Will Not Back Down From Forgiving Hulk Hogan Despite Fan Backlash

D’Von Dudley has addressed the criticism he has received for publicly forgiving Hulk Hogan and made clear that no amount of fan backlash is going to make him walk that decision back.

Speaking on the Duke LovesRasslin podcast, D’Von explained that his forgiveness is rooted in his own personal experiences with Hogan rather than a dismissal of what others have been through, and that he refuses to pretend otherwise simply because it is an unpopular position.

“I refuse to hide it because again, I don’t want nobody putting me in the light where D’Von thinks he’s holier than thou because I’ve read some things even on my Instagram or in other YouTube videos and things like that, people are upset with me because I have decided to forgive Hogan for the things that he had said and the things they did.”

He was careful to draw a clear line between his own story and the experiences others have had with Hogan, acknowledging that he cannot speak for anyone else.

“I can’t speak on the relationships that he has had with other people in the business, whether it be Bret Hart, Randy Orton, the nWo, people like that, and other people that have said that he’s done what he’s done to them. That’s their story. That’s not my story.”

D’Von shared two specific examples of Hogan’s character that informed his perspective. During his time in TNA, Hogan helped him in ways D’Von says he did not have to. And at a charity event D’Von organized called Hope for a Single Mom, benefiting women with cancer, Hogan signed autographs for what Devon estimated was over a thousand people, for free, without charging anyone.

“He sat there and signed every single autograph that they brought to him. He did it for free.”

He also revealed that Hogan came to him personally with an apology, which played a significant role in his decision.

“I’m telling you from my perspective on the man, which is why I forgave him, especially when he comes to me personally and tells me that he’s sorry.”

D’Von then explained that his Christian faith ultimately made the decision straightforward for him regardless of how others feel about it.

“If the Bible says you have to forgive, then I’m going to forgive because when it comes time for you to be judged on judgment day, he is not going to forgive you.”

He was equally clear that his forgiveness is not a judgment of those who have not reached the same place.

“I’m not saying that if you don’t want to forgive him, that’s on you. That’s you. That’s your cross. That’s something that you have to bear. But I have.”

D’Von also became emotional while reflecting on the role Hogan’s character played in his childhood in Brooklyn during wrestling’s 1980s boom period, separating the performer from the person.

“When I look from 84 to 1990, I remember the joy that the character Hulk Hogan, not Terry Bollea, but the character Hulk Hogan had given me. The joy of enjoying pro wrestling.”

He also challenged the consistency of public outrage toward Hogan specifically, arguing that others who have said similar or worse things continue to be celebrated without the same level of scrutiny.

“There are other wrestlers that we look up to today that have done the same thing and said the same thing that that man has said and probably worse and still to this day continue to say it. But you look at them in a high regard, but you denounce Hogan.”

Hogan passed away on July 24, 2025 at the age of 71.

Swerve Strickland would love to see Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods land in AEW, but he made clear on the latest episode of TMZ’s Inside the Ring podcast that his primary concern is that the two New Day members do whatever is best for them after their WWE departure.

Strickland was asked directly whether he wants to see Kingston and Woods sign with AEW when their 90-day clauses expire following their May 2 release from WWE.

“Oh yeah, of course. Absolutely. I also just want them to do what’s best for them. If they want to take like a five-year hiatus, they’ve earned it. They’ve more than earned it. They know their value as well, and that’s the most important thing. I hope that’s the lesson that everybody learns in this, not just like as a fan but as a professional yourself in this industry, they know their value, and they understand who they are, and they understand what they bring, and what they brought and their legacy they leave behind.”

Kingston and Woods departed WWE after being offered a significant pay cut one year into a five-year contract, choosing to walk away rather than accept reduced terms from TKO. Strickland revealed he reached out to Kingston shortly after the news broke.

His praise for Kingston went far beyond a supportive text message, placing him among the best who have ever worked in the business and describing him as a role model in the purest sense of the term.

“He’s like the epitome of professionalism when it comes to that. Especially in our culture, you look at Kofi as one of the top five greatest ever to do it. He’s truly a model — a role model, but he’s the model type of role model. He’s the perfect type of role model.”

Strickland also connected Kingston’s legacy directly to his own historic moment in AEW, explaining that Kingston’s WrestleMania title win was one of the key inspirations behind the emotion of his own April 2024 AEW World Championship victory, which made him the first Black wrestler to win the men’s AEW title.

“I meant every word I said when I won the championship and was like, ‘Kofi’s a big inspiration for that.’ It’s like, man, how do I do something so cool like that and make it my own? How do I do that in my own legacy, in my own career, something that Kofi did at WrestleMania. He’s the only Black wrestler to win the World Championship at WrestleMania. You cannot take that away from him. He’s the only one.”

Dustin Rhodes Shoots Down Goldust WWE Return With Blunt Response

Dustin Rhodes has shut down any hope of a Goldust return to WWE in the clearest terms, apparently referencing the company’s ongoing contract restructuring efforts.

The exchange began when a fan asked Rhodes on X whether Goldust would ever come back. Rhodes did not dodge the question or leave any ambiguity in his response.

“Worked too hard for my legacy to be tarnished by 50% less pay. NOOOOO! Won’t say it again. Love ya and ty for asking though.”

Rhodes never mentioned WWE directly, but the timing of the comment landed squarely in the middle of a growing conversation about TKO’s approach to talent contracts. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that multiple wrestlers have been approached about accepting reduced deals, with the rationale being that the company no longer views them as having the same value they did when their original contracts were signed.

“They were people who would have been cut had they not accepted it. The reason you would be asked to renegotiate is because the contract you signed was when they perceived you as being far more valuable than they perceive you as being now.”

Reports have confirmed that several talents have already accepted the new terms to remain with WWE, while others, most notably Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, chose to walk away after being offered reduced money one year into a five-year deal. Rhodes has been with AEW since the promotion launched in 2019, working as both an active competitor and a mentor for developing talent.

  • John Cena Promises Another Defining Moment at WWE Backlash

John Cena Promises Another Defining Moment at WWE Backlash

John Cena is hours away from delivering what he has described as another defining moment in a career already full of them, with the retired 16-time world champion set to make a history-making announcement at WWE Backlash tonight in Tampa, Florida.

Cena posted on X this afternoon to build anticipation ahead of the show.

“My time in WWE has been filled with defining moments. We’re hours away from what will certainly be another. C U Tonight at #WWEBacklash!”

He had previously stated the announcement would “shock the very foundation of WWE” for both wrestlers and fans, framing it as something that will change the experience of the company for everyone involved rather than a simple personal milestone.

The announcement is expected to center on Club WWE, the company’s new fan membership program. WWE introduced Club WWE last month, offering a range of exclusive benefits including ticket pre-sales, merchandise collections, and bonus content. The program features a gold tier with an annual fee, though pricing has not been publicly disclosed and sign-ups are not yet officially open.

Cena retired from in-ring competition in December 2025 following his final match against GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event and has since taken on an ambassadorial role within WWE. He served as the promotional face for Club WWE’s initial launch and hosted both nights of WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. His Backlash appearance marks another step in that post-retirement relationship with the company, with Dave Meltzer previously reporting that Cena is contracted for a number of appearances following WrestleMania.

Backlash 2026 begins at 6 p.m. ET tonight at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, streaming live on the ESPN app in the United States and on Netflix internationally.

  • WWE Backlash Match Card Rundown Revealed

WWE Backlash Match Card Rundown Revealed

WWE Backlash 2026 takes place tonight at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, and the full card and running order have been confirmed ahead of the show.

The event opens on ESPN 2 with Seth Rollins facing Bron Breakker, followed by Trick Williams defending the United States Championship against Sami Zayn. Both matches air during the free broadcast window before the show moves exclusively to the ESPN app.

From there, BodySlam.net reports Danhausen and his mystery partner take on The Miz and Kit Wilson, with the identity of Danhausen’s partner still officially unknown heading into tonight. IYO SKY and Asuka then settle their long-running program in singles action.

John Cena will deliver a history-making announcement segment, the details of which have been kept under wraps since he teased it earlier this week, describing it as something that will change the WWE experience for both performers and fans.

Roman Reigns closes the show defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu in the main event.

The full card in order is as follows: Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, United States Championship: Trick Williams vs. Sami Zayn, Danhausen and mystery partner vs. The Miz and Kit Wilson, IYO SKY vs. Asuka, John Cena announcement segment, and World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu.

  • WWE Backlash 2026 Final Betting Odds

WWE Backlash 2026 Final Betting Odds

The final betting odds for WWE Backlash 2026 are in, and several matches on the Tampa card are about as lopsided as it gets in professional wrestling betting markets.

According to BetOnline, Roman Reigns is the biggest favorite on the entire card at a staggering -5000 to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu, who enters as a +1200 underdog.

IYO SKY is not far behind in terms of favoritism, listed at -2000 against Asuka at +700 in their singles match. That line makes SKY one of the safest picks on the card by any measure and reflects the expectation that the program between the two has further to run with SKY in a position of strength.

Trick Williams is a -700 favorite to retain the United States Championship against Sami Zayn at +400. Zayn dropped the title to Williams at WrestleMania 42 and has been building toward reclaiming it since, but the odds suggest bettors do not see Saturday as the night it happens.

The Danhausen and mystery partner pairing against The Miz and Kit Wilson carries the same -5000 line as Reigns, with The Miz and Wilson at +1200.

The most competitive line on the card belongs to Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, with Breakker sitting at -145 and Rollins at +105.

Backlash 2026 takes place tonight at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, streaming live on the ESPN app in the United States.

  • WWE Backlash 2026 Full Card Preview: Roman Reigns vs. Fatu Headlines

WWE Backlash 2026 takes place tonight in Tampa, Florida with several matches on tap plus an announcement by John Cena.

Roman Reigns headlines the show, defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu. Fatu has been relentless in his pursuit of the Tribal Chief, going so far as to deploy the Tongan Death Grip during their interactions.

Trick Williams makes his first Backlash championship defense when he puts the United States Championship on the line against Sami Zayn. Williams claimed the title from Zayn at WrestleMania 42 Night Two, and Zayn has been working his way back toward a rematch ever since.

Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker collide in what is arguably the most personal match on the card. Breakker returned at WrestleMania 42 and attacked Rollins, costing him his match against GUNTHER in what was framed as a betrayal given the history between the two through The Vision.

IYO SKY and Asuka finally settle months of bitterness in singles action, with the match serving as the culmination of a program that lost a significant thread when Kairi Sane was released in the post-WrestleMania roster cuts. SKY enters as a significant favorite in the betting markets.

Danhausen teams with a mystery partner against The Miz and Kit Wilson in the wild card match of the evening, with Jelly Roll among the names most frequently discussed as the potential revelation. Bryan Alvarez reported earlier this week that he had heard speculation pointing in that direction, though nothing has been confirmed.

Backlash 2026 takes place tonight at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The pre-show begins at 4 p.m. ET and the main card starts at 6 p.m. ET, streaming live on the ESPN app in the United States and on Netflix internationally.

  • Potential Spoiler on Identity of Danhausen’s Mystery Partner

Potential Spoiler on Identity of Danhausen’s Mystery Partner

The identity of Danhausen’s mystery partner for his tag team match against The Miz and Kit Wilson at WWE Backlash on Saturday remains officially unknown, but Bryan Alvarez has shared speculation pointing to a familiar celebrity name.

Alvarez wrote to his subscribers on X that while he cannot confirm the information, he is hearing speculation that Jelly Roll will be the mystery partner.

“I can’t confirm this but I am hearing speculation that the mystery partner for Danhausen is, in fact, Jelly Roll, which would make a LOT more sense than an unadvertised PLE appearance by CM Punk.”

The Jelly Roll connection to Backlash runs deeper than a random celebrity booking. Prior to the creative decision being made for Cody Rhodes to defeat Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42, the plan had been for Jelly Roll to team with Rhodes at Backlash in a tag match against Orton and Pat McAfee.

That concept was shelved when the WrestleMania direction changed and Orton subsequently disappeared from WWE programming following the event, having reportedly been dealing with a physical issue heading into the show. Jelly Roll being redirected to a different partner for a different Backlash tag match would repurpose a plan that was already in motion rather than starting from scratch with a new celebrity appearance.

Current betting odds list CM Punk as the favorite at -200 to be Danhausen’s partner, with Joe Hendry at +200, Mr. Iguana at +300, and Jelly Roll at +400.
