  • Ric Flair Backtracks On WWE Legacy Accusations

Ric Flair Backtracks On WWE Legacy Accusations

Ric Flair has reversed course on his public callout of WWE, posting a video on Wednesday that struck a different tone from the statement he made just one day earlier. Where his Tuesday post accused the company of trying to destroy his legacy after blocking his Roots of Fight partnership, his follow-up opened with gratitude and closed without a single grievance directed at WWE.

“It’s the Nature Boy. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Roots of Fight for letting me represent them over the years. Pretty cool to have. I think I represented it well,” Flair said in the video posted to his Twitter account.

Flair then addressed his change of heart directly, acknowledging that the initial frustration had cooled. “I’m not even mad at the people who took it away from me. I was at first, but I understand business, and business comes first,” he said. “And you always want to think they’ll make an exception, but sometimes exceptions can’t be made.”

He closed by thanking Roots of Fight and looking ahead rather than back. “Roots of Fight, thank you for the honor and privilege of representing you, and I look forward to seeing the next member of a great team.”

The turnaround from one post to the next is stark. His Tuesday statement included financial reveals, references to Tony Khan, and a direct accusation that WWE was trying to diminish what he had built. None of that energy carried into the follow-up.

Whether cooler heads prevailed privately or something changed behind the scenes in the intervening 24 hours, the public dispute between Flair and WWE appears to be over for now.

  • John Laurinaitis Booked for Second Fan Event After AI Controversy

John Laurinaitis Booked for Second Fan Event After AI Controversy

John Laurinaitis is returning to the convention circuit. The former WWE executive has been booked for WCPBTW Fan Appreciation Night this Friday, April 10, at Huntington High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, marking his second public appearance since a March meet-and-greet that drew widespread criticism on social media.

World Class Professional Big Time Wrestling announced the appearance on social media. Laurinaitis will be available for autographs and photo opportunities from 6 to 8 PM ahead of a wrestling show at 8 PM.

The promotion also teased a special announcement from Laurinaitis during the event. The appearance serves as a fundraiser for the Huntington High School Athletic Boosters.

The March appearance became a talking point online after Laurinaitis shared what appeared to be an AI-generated image on social media depicting a larger crowd than actually attended the event.

Fans quickly identified the image as artificially enhanced, prompting people to mock him across wrestling social media. The Ohio booking comes just weeks after that controversy.

Laurinaitis was terminated from WWE following allegations outlined in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against WWE, Laurinaitis, and Vince McMahon, in which Grant accused all three parties. He had served as Senior Vice President of Talent Relations and General Manager of both Raw and SmackDown during his time with the company.

After his departure, he had maintained a low public profile until recently.

  • Ric Flair Accuses WWE of Trying to Destroy His Legacy

Ric Flair Accuses WWE of Trying to Destroy His Legacy

Ric Flair went public with an issue he had with WWE fter learning the company had blocked his involvement with Roots of Fight. The WWE Hall of Famer took to Twitter to blast the decision, detail his contributions to the company over decades, and level a direct accusation at WWE’s leadership about their treatment of him.

Flair opened his post by addressing the block directly before cataloging his accomplishments under the WWE banner. He pointed out that he is the only wrestler ever featured on ESPN’s 30 for 30 series and noted that he has been ranked among the top 25 athletes of all time. He also referenced his Emmy-nominated WWE documentary, stating he “should have won but I lost to a team not an individual.”

From there, Flair turned to his championship history and his financial dealings with the company, offering details that made the post notably candid. Despite holding 21 world championships throughout his career, he noted that he “always played by your rules and kept it at 16,” a reference to WWE’s official recognition of his title reigns.

He also addressed a past financial obligation with the company directly. “Paid Vince McMahon back 800k when he said he would forgive it. I honored it,” Flair wrote, making clear that he fulfilled commitments even when given the option to walk away from them.

Flair was equally direct about his financial independence from WWE, listing revenue streams that exist entirely outside the company. He stated that he still earns $1 million from Ryan Fiterman at Fiterman Sports and $500,000 from Ric Flair Drip.

He also thanked AEW President Tony Khan by name, a pointed signal that he maintains meaningful relationships with WWE’s primary competitor and has options beyond anything WWE controls.

“What more of my legacy do you want to destroy WWE? You all grew up loving me and I set the bar. Now you are trying to kill me and diminish my legacy,” Flair wrote. He closed with defiance rather than conciliation. “Thank you, but it ain’t happening. Nice try. LFG!”

Rey Mysterio Returns, Added To WWE WrestleMania 42 Match

Rey Mysterio returned to WWE on Monday Night Raw and announced he’s been added to the Intercontinental Championship ladder match at WrestleMania 42. The legendary luchador made his surprise appearance following a trios match on this week’s episode.

The return came after Je’Von Evans, PENTA, and Dragon Lee defeated El Grande Americano and Los Americanos. Mysterio emerged after the match to reveal his addition to the ladder match scheduled for the Las Vegas Premium Live Event.

PENTA Reacts to Mysterio’s WrestleMania Addition

Following the announcement, PENTA addressed Mysterio directly. The masked superstar told Mysterio that he’s ready to make history alongside him on the grand stage.

The Intercontinental Championship ladder match now features multiple competitors heading into WrestleMania 42. Mysterio’s return adds another veteran presence to the high-stakes bout.

Mysterio had been sidelined with an injury prior to his return on Raw.

  • CM Punk Rips Roman Reigns, Tells Ari Emanuel To Lower WrestleMania Ticket Prices

CM Punk Rips Roman Reigns, Tells Ari Emanuel To Lower WrestleMania Ticket Prices

CM Punk opened this week’s WWE Raw with a blistering promo targeting Roman Reigns, who was absent from the show. Punk mocked Reigns for his hatred, stating that being hated by losers is the price he pays for not being one of them.

The promo escalated as Punk criticized Reigns for having fake and store-bought tools compared to his own authentic contributions to the business. Referencing Reigns’ recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Punk accused WWE of sending Reigns because he’s safe and plastic.

Punk questioned Reigns’ decision to prioritize movies and television over wrestling. He also targeted Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for his diminishing Hollywood star power and for supporting Reigns after he failed as a football player.

Punk Calls Out Vince McMahon Era

In one of the promo’s most pointed moments, Punk slammed Reigns as a “buck tooth nepo baby” who “ate dog food for a weird old man.” The reference appeared to allude to past WWE storylines and Vince McMahon’s creative direction.

Punk celebrated his ability to leave WWE with his dignity intact when he was being treated poorly by that same person. He claimed he can “stand on the bridge and blow it up” because he knows how to swim, emphasizing his independence and value outside WWE.

    McAfee and Emanuel Targeted

Punk shifted his attention to Pat McAfee, accusing him of writing a check he can’t cash. He also criticized McAfee’s agent, Ari Emanuel, for shoehorning McAfee into the wrestling business.

The promo concluded with Punk telling Emanuel to lower WWE ticket prices for families, drawing a massive reaction from the crowd.

  • Alberto Del Rio Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

Alberto Del Rio Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

Alberto Del Rio, known as Alberto El Patron outside WWE, was arrested on April 6 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, on alleged domestic violence charges. According to Milenio, the arrest followed a 911 call from his girlfriend reporting physical and verbal assault.

The report states that the woman suffered injuries to her face and arms. State Civil Guard officers arrived at the scene during the alleged assault and found the victim showing signs of violence, leading to Del Rio’s immediate arrest.

The suspect was handed over to the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General’s Office to face charges. A mugshot of Del Rio has been circulated on social media.

    Previous Legal Issues

This marks the second domestic violence arrest for the former WWE Champion. In May 2020, Del Rio was arrested for allegedly battering and sexually assaulting his girlfriend, facing charges of sexual assault and assault causing bodily harm.

He was later indicted by a grand jury and formally charged with aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault. Those charges were dropped in December 2021.

Del Rio remains active on the independent wrestling circuit, primarily competing in Mexico. He was reportedly planning to open a new promotion prior to this arrest.

  • Shawn Michaels Addresses Rock Feud Rumors: ‘Blown Out of Proportion’

Shawn Michaels Addresses Rock Feud Rumors: ‘Blown Out of Proportion’

Shawn Michaels addressed long-standing rumors about tension between himself and The Rock during an appearance on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony and Kazeem Famuyide. The WWE Hall of Famer dismissed claims that he and Triple H mistreated The Rock during his early WWE days.

“There is a big kerfluffle in the wrestling business about me and Hunter doing stuff to him and being mean. All of it way blown out of proportion, none of it even accurate,” Michaels said. “Things that, when he was younger, were said a lot. Later on, and to this day, we get along, and we talk about stuff.”

    The Rock’s Early WWE Struggles

Michaels explained the context of The Rock’s difficult start in WWE. When Rocky Maivia debuted in 1996, he was met with “Rocky Sucks” chants from fans who rejected his clean-cut babyface persona.

“When he first came in, he was just Rocky Maivia’s [Rocky Johnson’s] son. He was one of the first legacies and people at that time were rebelling against that kind of stuff,” Michaels explained. “I think he recognized that and felt like he had to come back with something a little harder and more aggressive.”

The NXT creative head noted that typical locker room ribbing occurred during this period. After taking time off to rethink his approach, The Rock returned with the aggressive persona that would make him a star.

Why They Never Faced Each Other

Michaels was WWE Champion when The Rock debuted in 1996, but the two never had a singles match. By the time Michaels returned from his back injury in 2002, The Rock was transitioning to his Hollywood career.

“That’s one I think everybody would have liked to have seen. By the time I came back, he was well off into his Hollywood career,” Michaels said. He admitted he would pick The Rock to win in their hypothetical matchup.

The two did work together in limited capacities. Michaels served as special guest referee for Rock matches and aligned with him when Rock was the corporate champion and Michaels was commissioner.

Michaels also worked with The Rock’s daughter Ava during her time in NXT before she left WWE earlier this year.

Becky Lynch on Charlotte Flair: There’s ‘Always Interest’ in That Match

Becky Lynch believes a match against Charlotte Flair would generate significant interest regardless of when it happens. The two superstars rose through NXT together as part of the Four Horsewomen and were two-thirds of the first women’s main event in WrestleMania history.

Speaking on the Cheap Heat podcast, Lynch addressed the possibility of another WrestleMania clash with Flair. The two have been friends and rivals throughout their WWE careers.

“I don’t see why not,” Lynch said about a possible WrestleMania match against Charlotte. “I would say it’s always on the docket. Any time we come back to fight each other there is always interest and intrigue. People always want to see us beat the bejesus out of each other. Isn’t that a fun place to be? Because I love beating the bejesus out of her.”

    Lynch Heading to WrestleMania 42

Lynch is currently scheduled to challenge AJ Lee for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42. The match represents another high-profile opportunity for The Man on WWE’s biggest stage.

During the same interview, Lynch also discussed her long-term future in wrestling. She indicated she expects to remain involved in the industry in some capacity throughout her career.

  • Jonathan Coachman Defends Pat McAfee WWE Role Amid Fan Backlash

Jonathan Coachman Defends Pat McAfee WWE Role Amid Fan Backlash

Jonathan Coachman is defending WWE’s decision to involve Pat McAfee in the Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes storyline, despite heavy fan criticism following the April 3 episode of SmackDown. The reveal of McAfee as Orton’s mystery ally sparked backlash online, with many viewers saying it distracted from the long history between Orton and Rhodes heading into WrestleMania 42.

Coachman made his position clear in a video reaction posted to social media. He believes WWE made the right call by putting McAfee into the storyline in a major way.

“Say what you want about Pat McAfee… it is the perfect way to use him in the WWE,” Coachman said.

    Coachman Praises McAfee’s Work Ethic

Coachman went further, praising McAfee’s personality and drive. He pointed out that McAfee stands out compared to most people who step into WWE roles, citing his ability to connect with audiences and his overall work ethic.

“Pat McAfee does everything that I want to do that I try to do on the daily… He’s a unicorn. He’s different than almost everybody out there because he has hustle, he has heart, he has drive. That’s why he can pull this thing off,” Coachman stated.

The comments come as WWE faces continued criticism online for the creative direction of the Orton vs. Rhodes program just weeks before WrestleMania 42. Many fans questioned whether inserting McAfee into the storyline helped or hurt the build to what was expected to be a marquee match.

Whether fans agree with Coachman’s assessment or side with the critics, McAfee’s involvement has become one of the most talked-about elements of WWE programming heading into the biggest event of the year.

  • Cody Rhodes Improvised SmackDown Promo After TKO Frustration

Cody Rhodes Improvised SmackDown Promo After TKO Frustration

Cody Rhodes delivered a heated promo on the April 3 episode of SmackDown that may have been completely unscripted. According to sources, the Undisputed WWE Champion was told to improvise the segment after backstage frustration with TKO reached a boiling point.

According to Bodyslam.net, sources said Rhodes was told by members of WWE creative to go to the ring and “shoot from the hip” about Pat McAfee and TKO after backlash started pouring in online. The promo reportedly wasn’t listed on the internal rundown and wasn’t scheduled to happen before social media reaction began building.

Sources also indicated that Rhodes and other members of the creative team have legitimate issues with TKO. The frustration stems from claims that corporate decisions have affected storylines close to WrestleMania multiple years in a row.

Rhodes Returns After Opening Segment Attack

Earlier in the show, Rhodes had been taken out during the opening segment after Pat McAfee blindsided him. Randy Orton followed up with multiple chair shots, seemingly ending the champion’s night.

However, Rhodes returned during the final hour after the SmackDown Tag Team Title match. He attacked Kit Wilson with a CrossRhodes and grabbed a microphone, immediately announcing that McAfee was behind Orton’s mystery phone calls.

Rhodes mocked the reveal in front of the crowd and compared it to one of wrestling’s most famous moments, but not in a flattering way.

“We all got dressed up to find out who it was that Randy was talking to on the phone. Then it was Pat McAfee. That is the same as the third member of the nWo not being Hulk Hogan, but Disco Inferno.”

Champion Promises Payback Before WrestleMania 42

Rhodes then made it clear that he plans to get even with McAfee. He told McAfee that he will get a receipt and that him and everyone he is with can kiss his ass.

He also hinted that the situation is pushing him into a darker mindset as WrestleMania 42 gets closer. Rhodes suggested he may need to change who he is to deal with what’s ahead.

Road Dogg: Judgment Day Could Be 2026’s Bloodline

Former WWE lead writer Brian ‘Road Dogg’ James believes The Judgment Day has the potential to become what The Bloodline was at their peak, if the faction is handled correctly heading into the rest of 2026.

James made the comments during a virtual signing on Monday Night Raw while discussing the faction’s current state. The group currently consists of AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio, Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Roxanne Perez, and J.D. McDonagh.

“I love it,” James said about Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio’s dynamic during an autograph signing with Signed By Superstars. “I think the Judgment Day has potential to be The Bloodline of ’26, if handled correctly. I think there’s a bunch of great players in there right now.”

Judgment Day Heading Into WrestleMania 42

The faction underwent a major shift in early March when the group decided to oust Finn Bálor. That decision set up a singles match between Balor and Mysterio at WrestleMania 42.

Morgan is also scheduled for a high-profile match at the event, challenging Stephanie Vaquer for the WWE Women’s World Championship. The matches represent significant opportunities for Judgment Day members on WWE’s biggest stage.

Road Dogg Explains WWE Creative Exit, Rules Out AEW Move

Road Dogg has opened up about his departure from WWE creative, revealing the demanding pace of the job led to his exit in early March. The former co-lead writer of Friday Night SmackDown addressed his decision during a virtual signing appearance with Signed by Superstars.

“It was moving too fast… It was just moving too fast for me. We talked about my brothers and their grandkids and I didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time with mine so, I’m gonna do more of that now.”

Road Dogg served as co-lead writer for SmackDown before his March exit. He was featured in the WWE: Unreal series on Netflix during creative writing meetings, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the process.

WWE Creative Process and Netflix Exposure

When asked whether the Netflix series exposes too much of the wrestling business, Road Dogg acknowledged the concern many veterans share. “As an old timer, I think we always feel that way,” he said.

He explained the strategic thinking behind the series. “The idea behind it, in my opinion, is it’s an on-ramp or an exit ramp into the actual episodic television show, and I don’t know if there’s a metric that can tell you whether that works or not.”

    AEW Speculation Shut Down

During the signing, which also featured Billy Gunn, Road Dogg was asked about potentially joining All Elite Wrestling in a producing role. He quickly dismissed the idea.

When asked if he could see himself working for AEW in the future, Road Dogg simply replied, “No.” Gunn, who works as both a talent and producer for AEW, echoed the response.

Road Dogg’s exit from WWE marks a shift toward spending more time with family after years in the high-pressure creative environment.

  • Ricky Saints Opens Up on Mental Toll of AEW Absence

Ricky Saints Opens Up on Mental Toll of AEW Absence

Ricky Saints opened up about the mental toll of being kept off AEW television during a recent podcast appearance. The wrestler revealed that the lack of communication and ring time created significant challenges during that period.

Speaking on Getting Over: Wrestling Podcast, Saints addressed the stretch when Tony Khan wasn’t using him regularly on AEW programming. He explained that there wasn’t much discussion from his side about why he wasn’t wrestling, which made the situation harder to navigate.

    Mental Challenges of Inactivity

Saints described how staying active in the ring has always been central to his identity as a performer. The sudden absence of wrestling created an unusual mental struggle for him.

“Yeah. No, no, you know, no real discussion or or anything like that from my side of it in terms of uh you know, what was discussed and all that, but there was some restlessness just because I’m so used to wrestling all the time,” Saints said. “And I think that’s the type of person I am. I’m used to creating. I’m used to using my body for these things. And to not have that was a very odd uh place to be at mentally.”

    Independent Booking Complications

Saints also revealed that trying to stay active outside of AEW proved difficult. Getting independent bookings approved was complicated at the time, though he emphasized he doesn’t hold any bitterness about the situation.

“And so you’re having to figure out these other things, especially when it goes to like the independence. It was not as easy to get some of these independent dates cleared,” Saints explained. “And um for there’s no that’s not a knock on the company itself. It’s just conflict of interest for AEW and whatever independent that I wanted to do. Um, but at the end of the day, it all worked out. Truthfully, it all worked out. And I’m thankful for both sides. I’m thankful for AEW. I’m thankful for the Independence as well.”

IShowSpeed returned to streaming with visible injuries after a confrontation with LA Knight that followed the streamer’s interference on WWE Monday Night RAW. Speed appeared on camera wearing a sling and displaying facial bruises from the incident.

The confrontation stems from Speed knocking out Knight with brass knuckles during a WWE World Tag Team Title match on RAW. Knight retaliated by crashing Speed’s livestream and slamming him into his streaming equipment.

    Speed Addresses the Incident

During his return stream, Speed addressed the run-in with the former United States Champion. Despite the visible injuries, the streamer insisted the incident won’t stop him from continuing his activities.

“People want to come to my house, tarnish my name, tarnish my thing, breaking in—I don’t get it anymore. But that don’t stop me. That don’t stop Speed, baby,” Speed said during the broadcast.

He continued: “Today, right now, spam up the Ws—Speed is back in action. This week I’m hurt, and I need to get a win. LA Knight from WWE broke into my damn house and pushed me into my damn setup and then left.”

    WrestleMania 42 Speculation

Rumors have circulated about a potential match at WWE WrestleMania 42 featuring Speed and The Vision against Knight and The Usos. However, WWE has not confirmed any such match at this time.

Nikki Bella addressed the online hate and false rumors she’s been dealing with during her wrestling comeback. Speaking on The Flying Felon podcast, the former WWE superstar called out toxic fans who spread narratives that her success came from past relationships rather than her own work.

Bella explained that returning to wrestling after seven years away, while being a single mom, has made the constant criticism even harder to handle. She’s balancing training and performing with parenting responsibilities, but online commenters show no understanding of that reality.

    Dealing With Constant Negativity

“I hate to bring up people online, but sometimes we just can’t avoid it, right? In this industry, I feel like the hate that can happen and the trolling is just so wrong,” Bella said. She noted that critics immediately jump to negative comments without giving her any credit for the effort she’s putting in.

“Even on this comeback, there are moments—it’s been hard, because I knew coming back and not having a match in seven years… I am working my ass off and I’m trying, but I’m also a single mom. So it’s like I can give so much, and then I’ve got to give over here too,” she explained.

    False Narratives About Her Success

Bella directly addressed one of the most persistent rumors about her career, the claim that her success came from who she dated rather than her own abilities. She made it clear how frustrating that narrative is, given the work she’s putting in.

“And then it’s, ‘Wow, she only got to where she’s at because of who she used to date,’ or ‘she’s only here because of this.’ And it’s… I’m working really hard. I would love to say I don’t care, but there’s a part of me that does care. And there’s a part of me that hopes I can change that perception of those hateful people,” Bella said.

She acknowledged that while people tell her hate comes with success, it doesn’t make dealing with it any easier. The constant negativity affects her mental health, forcing her to take social media breaks at times.

    Taking Breaks From Social Media

“It is hard when you see so much online, especially when you know what kind of athlete you are. I have to, at times, take social media breaks and not read the comments, because they do affect me and they’ll get me really down,” Bella admitted.

She described social media as draining, noting that the platform amplifies miserable people who spread negativity. “Social media can be such a tough thing, and you have to really teach yourself not to read everything, because man, people are brutal. There are a lot of miserable people in this world, and I do believe that social media kind of sucks our soul energy,” she said.

According to Meltzer’s report, WWE had been considering bringing Jericho back to the company before his AEW return. The idea would be to bring him for a retirement tour, although opponents were not mentioned in the report.

Kenny Omega Considered Retiring During Diverticulitis Battle

Kenny Omega has opened up about how close he came to walking away from in-ring competition during his battle with diverticulitis. In an interview with CBC News Manitoba, the AEW star revealed he had made peace with the possibility that his wrestling career might be over.

Omega’s diverticulitis previously forced him to miss matches and left major questions about his long-term future. He explained that accepting the possibility of transitioning to a backstage role helped him focus on recovery without panicking.

Omega Was Ready for Office Role

“I think a big part of it too which I think helped me a lot in this journey was that I was at peace with being able to take a huge step back if I needed to,” Omega said. “If I needed to have a complete non-physical role within the company and just be you know an office guy in the back that’s never seen but is still contributing. I was happy to just been involved with this project that is AEW with this company with its wonderful fans its athletes.”

    Staying Calm Through Recovery

Omega credited his calm mindset with allowing him to make better decisions about his recovery. Rather than rushing into treatments without guidance, he focused on carefully trying different methods and staying honest with himself about the outcomes.

“I think that having that sense of calmness and being able to accept the current situation actually helped me put forward more of an effort in the pursuit of getting back what I lost,” he explained. “Cuz I feel like if I was in a panic mode I would have kind of run around like a chicken with its head cut off not knowing whether to go left whether to go right should I try something new or should I keep really doubling down on what I’m currently doing.”

The wrestler emphasized that knowing he tried every available option mattered just as much as the results. “I think just being honest with yourself in this in this case or honest with myself in this case and just being very open-minded to not only the fact that things may work if I try something new but if they don’t work to be able to accept that okay I’ve tried everything that I could. I can’t say that I didn’t try.”

Omega has since returned to in-ring competition after his recovery. He will challenge MJF for the AEW World Title at AEW Dynasty.

  • Drew McIntyre Says WWE Title Win Gave Him Legitimacy

Drew McIntyre Says WWE Title Win Gave Him Legitimacy

Drew McIntyre believes his Undisputed WWE Championship win over Cody Rhodes in January gave him the legitimacy he needed while simultaneously helping Rhodes regain his competitive edge. McIntyre defeated Rhodes on the January 9, 2026, episode of WWE SmackDown in a shocking upset that few saw coming.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, McIntyre reflected on what the title reign meant for both superstars. His reign lasted just under two months before Rhodes recaptured the championship on the March 6, 2026, episode of SmackDown in Portland, Oregon.

    McIntyre on Shaking Up SmackDown

“Nobody saw it coming, for one. I think everybody assumed that the Cody Express would keep moving on forward,” McIntyre said. “After he finished the story, he was on fire. I’m not saying he wasn’t doing a great job. He’s a great champion, he’s a great performer, but it was a lot of the same.”

McIntyre explained that the title change put Rhodes in a chase position, which gave the current champion back some of his edge. “It put Cody in a position where he had to chase. Gave Cody a bit of that edge back, which he, in my opinion, desperately needed,” he stated.

    Legitimacy and the Gollum Approach

“For me, it gave me some of that legitimacy. ‘Oh yeah, Drew can win the big one,’ and not going to be so sympathetic that we need to start cheering for this guy if you feel so bad for him,” McIntyre continued. He described his approach to defending the title as possessive, comparing himself to Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

“I’m Gollum from Lord of the Rings. This is my precious. I’m not letting this go, no matter what,” he said. McIntyre noted that his heel persona as champion made SmackDown more compelling, with multiple challengers targeting him not just for the title but because of his attitude.

    Celebrating in Glasgow

McIntyre won the championship in Berlin and celebrated the following night in Glasgow with his family in attendance.

“I tell Scotland, I promised you would bring you the championship, and I brought you the championship, and the only ever, not just Scotland person to do it, but British person to do it,” he said.

McIntyre faces Jacob Fatu in an unsanctioned match at WrestleMania 42, while Rhodes defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton at the same event.
