Brian Myers has opened up about his WWE release.
The former Curt Hawkins recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet for a new interview. He talked about things such as the origin of his WWE name, being paired with Edge, and more.
During the talk, the former Tag Team Champion was also asked about his first WWE release and if he thought he saw any path back to the company at the time. Brian Myers claimed that the release was one of the best days of his life because he was miserable in the company:
“Yes, one of the best days of my life. Because I was so young, they weren’t using me for, at that point, almost a year and a half. That’s why I started the school, because I was just miserable. They would not call me for two months, three months at a time, and they’d be like, You’re not coming to Raw.”
I Couldn’t Have Been Happier: Brian Myers
Brian Myers had been a regular on WWE programming between his main roster debut in 2007 to 2012. The company started using him less and less in 2013 however, and he had only wrestled 6 matches in 2014 before the company released him in June that year.
According to the TNA wrestling star, he just wasn’t comfortable with being paid to sit at home. The 41-year-old noted that he started taking bookings immediately after his release and it made him very happy:
“It just wasn’t comfortable. Plus, when you love something and you’re being paid to not participate in it, it’s just not a great feeling. So I was thrilled, I got fired on Thursday, I wrestled Friday, Saturday on these shindies in New Jersey, and I couldn’t have been happier. That said, my goal was to get back, and I did it two years to the date, I want to say it was.”
The wrestling veteran would return to the company in July 2016. He had another 4-year run with the promotion before being released in April 2020. He returned to TNA wrestling after this and has been a part of the promotion since then.
