El Hijo del Vikingo has confirmed he is undergoing knee surgery, posting the update on Instagram as concerns grow about the severity of an injury he sustained during WWE NXT rehearsals on June 30.
Vikingo’s surgery announcement follows reports from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that the injury “could be serious,” with Bryan Alvarez adding it “doesn’t sound good.” WWE had been awaiting MRI results to determine the extent of the damage.
Vikingo was originally scheduled to defend the AAA Latin American Championship against EK Prosper on the June 30 NXT episode before the match was pulled. A backstage angle involving Keanu Carver was used to write him off television.
Despite the injury occurring on June 30, Vikingo had appeared on SmackDown the following week in a taped AAA Cruiserweight Championship match against Rey Fenix — that bout had been recorded on June 29 in Atlantic City, one day before the injury.
Vikingo is signed directly to WWE rather than operating as a visiting AAA talent, making the setback a more significant concern for both sides. Neither WWE nor AAA has officially commented on the timeline for his return. We wish him a speedy recovery.
