  • Backstage Reason Behind Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre Main Eventing WrestlePalooza

The WrestlePalooza match order was not based on what fans wanted.

There had been a lot of discussion on which match will main event the first WWE PPV on ESPN. A lot of people believed that Brock Lesnar\’s in-ring return featuring one of John Cena\’s final wrestling appearances should close the show.

Fans complained about the match order after the event as well. Many online believed that AJ Lee\’s return bout would have been a better choice over the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre match, if Lesnar and Cena were not main eventing.

Fightful Select provided some update on this situation and they noted that match between the Beast Incarnate and the Cenation Leader was indeed slated as the main event of the show at one point.

While the bout ended up being the opening match of the night, the site noted that the change was not dictated by Lesnar despite the fact that Brock does like to leave the arena early if he can.

As for the reason behind the Undisputed WWE championship match going last over other contenders, the report says it was done because ESPN officials wanted a bout with the \’pomp and circumstance\’ of a big title defence headlining the show.

Though the rumors of this match being a last-minute addition to the card are untrue as WWE knew all along that Cody Rhodes will complete his Street Fighter filming schedule before the PPV and that he will be available to compete at the show.

The American Nightmare managed to beat Drew McIntyre to retain his title at the show. He couldn\’t celebrate for long, however, as his next opponent found him during the WrestlePalooza post show. You can check out more about it here.

  • Triple H Reveals Secret Behind Stephanie Vaquer\’s Recent Absence

Triple H has explained the reason for the odd build to a WrestlePalooza match.

The Game made an appearance on the WrestlePalooza post-show. He talked about things such as AJ Lee\’s return to the ring, surprising Stephanie McMahon with the announcement of her HOF induction, and more.

While talking about Stephanie Vaquer\’s performance at the PPV, Triple H revealed some behind-the-scene details about her recent absence. He mentioned that the female star had been very sick the past few weeks and it was the reason for the odd build to her match with IYO SKY at the PPV:

\”I\’ll let everybody in on a behind-the-scenes secret to Stephanie. In the last few weeks, Stephanie has been very sick. she had a, I don\’t know the details of what the flu type thing going on, but she was very sick. It was why she missed the TV; it was why there was some odd build to it.

And she was able to feel well enough and get cleared medically to compete tonight. So for her to be able to do that against IYO, who I consider one of the greatest women of all time in this industry, for her to have a win like that tonight to become the women\’s world champion is incredible.\”

Stephanie Vauqer faced IYO SKY for the Women\’s title that was vacated by Naomi who recently revealed her pregnancy. Vaquer won the bout to win her first championship in the main roster.

Though the new champion has no time to rest. WWE has already announced her next challenge for the Crown Jewel: Perth event next month. You can check out more about it here.

  • Watch: Cody Rhodes Confronted By Seth Rollins At WrestlePalooza Post Show

    A big confrontation after WrestlePalooza.

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes picked up a big victory at WWE\’s first ESPN PPV tonight. He defeated Drew McIntyre to retain his title in the main event of the show.

The World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, on the other hand, did not defend his title at the event. He instead teamed up with his wife, Becky Lynch, to take on a returning AJ Lee and CM Punk. The Architect ended up suffering a loss in this bout.

The American Nightmare appeared on the WrestlePalooza post-show after his victory. Interestingly, he was interrupted by The Visionary. The two champions came face to face and raised their titles before Rollins retreated.

This confrontation came after WWE announced that Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes will face each other for the Crown Jewel Championship at the event of the same name from Perth, Australia, on October 11.

The two world champions have a lot of history together. Rollins was Cody\’s first opponent upon his big WWE return at WrestleMania 38, leading to a series of matches. The former Shield member then also helped the AEW co-founder to end Roman Reigns\’ historic title reign at WrestleMania 40.

Michael Cole confirmed on commentary earlier in the night that the two Women\’s World Champions will also face each other at the next WWE PPV.

  • WrestlePalooza Opening And Closing Matches Seemingly Confirmed

Some details have been confirmed about WrestlePalooza.

WWE has announced a total of 5 matches for the reinstated ECW PPV this Saturday. The marquee bouts for the show are John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar and AJ Lee\’s in-ring return in a mixed tag match.

This will be the company\’s first PLE as part of their new deal with ESPN. There has been a lot of talk about which match will main event the show, that will compete against AEW All Out.

On the latest episode of his show, Pat McAfee cleared this confusion. The WWE announcer revealed that the match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar will be officially kicking off the WWE-ESPN era:

\”Kicking off the ESPN-WWE era will be John Cena versus Brock Lesnar here at Gamebridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is obviously gigantic. What a way to start.\”

AEW has announced a special start time of 3 PM ET for All Out. The decision to put the Lesnar vs Cena match first was likely made by officials to pull any viewers away from the rival PPV if the AEW show goes long.

The announcement also means that AJ Lee teaming with CM Punk to face Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins will be the closing bout of WrestlePalooza.

There is another bout that is rumored to be added to the Saturday show but it will depend on the health of a current champion. You can check out more about it here.
