WWE Planning Backup Options For WrestleMania 43 If The Rock Misses

Reports have emerged that WWE has a contingency plan for WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia.

The plan involves Roman Reigns squaring off against Oba Femi if The Rock does not compete at the event.

According to Self Made Pro, speaking during a Self Made Session, there are still several moving pieces surrounding WrestleMania 43 and nothing has been locked in. He cited a conversation with someone inside WWE as the basis for the report.

“So I talked to someone in WWE, right? There’s a lot of moving pieces right now and they’re still unclear, at least as far as I’m aware, as far as the people I spoke to are aware, I should say. Right now, if Dwayne’s not doing Mania, then they’re looking to do Oba Femi and Roman at Mania.”

    The Rock’s Status Remains Unclear

The Rock has previously addressed WrestleMania 43, expressing enthusiasm for the event and the Kingdom while keeping his answer deliberately vague when pressed on whether he would compete. His Hollywood commitments and long-term plans remain factors in any potential return to the ring.

Reports have previously indicated that WWE and Saudi officials were working on a substantial offer to bring The Rock in for the event, with the idea tied to what could be his final match. Nothing on that front has been officially confirmed either.

WrestleMania 43 has been confirmed for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Jim Ross is among those who have publicly backed Oba Femi as a WrestleMania 43 headliner, and WWE has also been reported to be planning a major date change for the event.

If the Reigns vs. Femi direction does come together, it would represent one of the biggest opportunities of Femi’s career to date.

  • WWE Planning Major Date Change For WrestleMania 43

WWE Planning Major Date Change For WrestleMania 43

A major shake-up may be coming with WrestleMania 43.

Reports via WrestleVotes suggest that WWE is targeting the weekend of March 27, 2027 for WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The date would coincide with the end of the annual Riyadh Season festival.

WWE is yet to officially confirm the date for the show. WrestleVotes reports that the weekend of April 10 is also on the table as an alternative.

    Return to Traditional Scheduling

The March 27 date would mark a return to WWE’s traditional WrestleMania scheduling. Most WrestleManias have historically been held in either late March or early April.

Starting in 2025, WWE pushed the event back to mid/late April to avoid competing with Final Four weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament. The 2027 show would reverse that strategy for one year.

    Two-Night Format Expected to Continue

WrestleVotes reported that it’s possible but unlikely that WrestleMania 43 could return to a one-night event for one year only.

Fightful suggested that WWE’s broadcast partner ESPN, is said to prefer the two-night format. WrestleMania has been a two-night event since WrestleMania 36 in 2020. The format has become standard for the company’s flagship Premium Live Event.

    First International WrestleMania

WrestleMania 43 will be the first time WWE’s marquee event has ever been held outside of the United States or Canada. Nashville, Tennessee was in consideration as the host city before Saudi Arabia was chosen.

WWE is moving ahead with its Saudi Arabia plans despite some uncertainty amid the war between the United States and Israel and Iran. The company also announced that Night of Champions 2026 will be held in Riyadh on Saturday, June 27.

Real Reason WWE Moved WrestleMania 43 To Saudi Arabia

WrestleMania 43 was originally set to take place in Nashville at the new Nissan Stadium in 2027 before WWE shifted the event to Saudi Arabia.

Nashville tourism officials and the Tennessee Titans have confirmed the initial plan on Tuesday.

Andrew BayDala reported on Twitter that the change was due to timing issues with the venue. The new stadium is still under construction and won’t be completed until February 2027, creating a tight window for WrestleMania logistics.

“Today, the Nashville tourism groups & Tennessee Titans announced that #WrestleMania 43 was originally scheduled to be held in Nashville at the new Nissan Stadium in 2027. The reason given for why it is not taking place in Nashville was “the date didn’t work out, and we are looking at future years.”

Stadium Timeline Led to Saudi Arabia Decision

Nashville tourism groups stated “the date didn’t work out, and we are looking at future years” when explaining why WrestleMania 43 won’t take place in Tennessee. The construction timeline for the new Nissan Stadium didn’t align with WWE’s scheduling needs for the 2027 event.

This revelation changes the context around WWE’s decision to take WrestleMania overseas. WWE President Nick Khan previously framed the move to Saudi Arabia as part of the company’s global expansion strategy and its ongoing partnership with the Kingdom.

Nashville remains in consideration for a future WrestleMania once the new stadium is operational. The venue was clearly a priority for WWE before timing became the deciding factor in moving the event to Riyadh.
