  • Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER Will Join An Exclusive Club At WWE WrestleMania 40

GUNTHER is hoping to remain undefeated at WrestleMania this April, and will join an exclusive club when he puts the Intercontinental title on the line.

The Austrian Superstar has been a dominant champion since capturing the gold back in June of 2022. Not only has GUNTHER proven himself in his own right, but having Imperium alongside him has made the Ring General even more dangerous.

    GUNTHER\’s Record at WrestleMania

At WrestleMania, GUNTHER will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn. The Austrian has been immensely confident in recent weeks and is sure that Zayn is simply not good enough to beat him.

Win, lose, or draw, GUNTHER will become the fourth Superstar in WWE history to defend the gold at back-to-back WrestleManias. This is a feat accomplished by only three Superstars at WWE\’s biggest show of the year.

    Who\’s In the Club?

The first man to do so was \’Macho Man\’ Randy Savage, who put the gold on the line at WrestleMania 2 and WrestleMania 3. The latter match is the much-acclaimed bout that saw Savage lose the gold to Ricky \’The Dragon\’ Steamboat.

The Ultimate Warrior would defend the title at WrestleMania 5 and WrestleMania 6, with the latter match seeing him capture the WWF title. The most recent man to have back-to-back title defenses is The Rock, who retained at both WrestleMania 13 and WrestleMania 14.

    GUNTHER\’s Other Records

This is hardly the first accolade for GUNTHER. In September 2022, GUNTHER broke the record for the longest solo Intercontinental Championship reign. In February 2024, GUNTHER broke the record for the most days combined of any Intercontinental Champion.

GUNTHER is also part of an elite club of Superstars that have held two championships in WWE for over a year. In addition to his current reign, GUNTHER held the NXT United Kingdom Championship for 870 days.

  • Sting Addresses Past Steroid Usage & Team With Ultimate Warrior

Sting went through many different phases in his almost 4 decades-long wrestling career. One such phase that came very early in his run was his tag team with Jim \”Justice\” Hellwig, who would later become known as the Ultimate Warrior.

Teaming with Warrior got The Icon some of his early opportunities in wrestling but according to the wrestling veteran himself, it could have also killed him.

The former champion took part in the media scrum following his retirement match at AEW Revolution 2024 where he talked about the different stops of his career. Answering a question about his time with Ultimate Warrior, Sting mentioned how they got opportunities because they looked pretty intimidating together:

\”I think it was definitely good that we were both together to begin with, because, he just, he looked like a freak. I was 265 pounds and I looked like a little kid compared to him. But both of us together were pretty intimidating. And you know, we had a lot of people saying, \’Maybelline Road Warriors,\’ I don\’t know if you remember any of that. But yeah. But we thought who cares? You know, we get a match with the Road Warriors, we hit the big time.\”

Sting Comments On Past Steroid Usage

The former WCW Champion then mentioned that while they were meant to start together, the tag team wasn\’t meant to last long. According to Sting, the duo would have killed each other due to steroid abuse if they stayed together:

\”So, but you know, I think it was good that we ended up splitting up it was good that he went his way and I went mine. We were not meant to be together. We were meant to start together and it got us in the door for sure.

But he needed to be on his own and I needed to be…we were gonna kill each other, literally on the road. Two roided out young man. That\’s what it was then. Two roided out guys. Just shooting straight here. That stopped in 1990 for me, so yeah. It didn\’t stop for him, but it stopped for me.\”

Ultimate Warrior sadly passed away at the age of 54 back in April 8, 2014, only three days after his induction into WWE Hall of Fame. An autopsy confirmed that the legend died of a heart attack caused by atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

  • Seth Rollins Asks Cody Rhodes If He Wants To Be Ultimate Warrior Or Ric Flair, Nature Boy Responds

Seth Rollins further makes his case for Cody Rhodes to challenge him instead of Roman Reigns at WrestleMania and Ric Flair has taken note.

Rollins continued his campaign for Cody on social media as a compelling video package was put together by WWE with Rollins doing the narratiion and asking Rhodes what road he wants to take in finishing his story.

\”Cody Rhodes – look in your heart and ask yourself what kind of champion do you want to be? Do you want to be like the Ultimate Warrior or do you want to be like The Nature Boy Ric Flair? Tell me, Cody, what kind of champion do you want to be?\”

During the clip, it was highlighted how \”The Nature Boy\” was a staunch defending champion of the \”Big Gold\” during his Jim Crockett Promotions prime and although unprompted, Ric Flair looks to be in support of Cody choosing Rollins over Roman.

\”The answer to that question is obvious! Just look at how Cody Rhodes styles & profiles! WOOOOO!\”

During WWE Raw this past Monday, Rollins interrupted the 2024 Royal Rumble winner right before he was going to stake his claim for the WWE Undisputed Universal Title and pitched himself to The American Nightmare as the appropriate opponent for him at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.

While The WWE World Heavyweight Championship doesn\’t have direct lineage to the original World Heavyweight Title in WCW, it sure bears a resemblence. Rollins may have invoked Ric Flair\’s name during the video package, but he also spoke of Dusty Rhodes as someone whom held the \”working man\’s\” title.

Dana Warrior On Ultimate Warrior\’s Daughters Making Him A Better Person

Many people have criticized the handling of Ultimate Warrior\’s legacy by WWE due to past hateful comments he made throughout his life. Dana Warrior\’s response to this has always been that having daughters made Warrior a better person. She says that they taught him not to hate in this way.

“I will not be disloyal to my husband’s memory or speak ill of a man who is not here to defend himself. I can, however, tell you his heart was changed by conversations with his two daughters. The true testament of the man behind the character is his ability to evolve. My husband did just that,” Dana Warrior said in a statement in 2017.

  • Ultimate Warrior Documentaries From A&E & Dark Side Of The Ring To Air Next Week

It’s not often that two documentaries from two different companies about the same topic are released within days apart from the other, but that’s what will be happening next week about the life and career of The Ultimate Warrior.

Warrior was fast-tracked to the main event scene in WWE where he became a popular wrestler among fans. He had an up-and-down relationship with Vince McMahon during his tenure. He worked for WWE from 1987 to 1991 and again in 1992 and 1996. He also had a stint with WCW in 1998.

Warrior became a two-time Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion and won the WWE Championship when he pinned Hulk Hogan in the main event at WrestleMania VI in 1990. After being on the outs with WWE, he returned to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but died just days after appearing on the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw in 2014 at the age of 54.

  • Eric Bischoff Comments On Ultimate Warrior\’s Contract With WCW

The Ultimate Warrior was briefly part of the WCW roster in 1998. He feuded with Hollywood Hogan, formed the \”One Warrior Nation\” and then was gone from the promotion by the end of the year. Eric Bischoff recently spoke about Warrior\’s contract with WCW and the negotiations he went through with him.

\”The deal closed with Warrior a matter of weeks after my first meeting,\” Bischoff said. \”It wasn\’t a long protracted negotiation or discussion. There was no follow-up meetings, there was no open issues that had to be addressed. We had the meeting, we covered it, we almost immediately started into contract negotiations with Warrior\’s attorney and they wrapped up rather quickly.\”

Conrad then asked Bischoff if Warrior had creative control of his storylines worked into his contract.

\”Nope,\” Bischoff responded. \”Look, he wanted an opportunity to be involved in the discussion, so would anybody, so would anybody right now in WWE and so would anybody right now in AEW. Who wouldn\’t want to be part of that conversation? But there was no creative control discussion whatsoever.\”

Conrad then asked if Warrior had any weird requests during contract negotiations but evidently there were none.

\”There were no eccentric requests that I can remember,\” Bischoff admitted.

  • Eric Bischoff Comments On Ultimate Warrior\’s WCW Run

The Ultimate Warrior signed with WCW in 1998. His run with the company began in May of that year. He competed in 3 matches and was eventually gone from the company that fall.

Eric Bischoff recently spent some time on his 83 Weeks podcast talking about what it was like working with Warrior. In particular, Bischoff spoke about Warrior cutting a 20-minute promo on Hulk Hogan on his debut appearance with the company.

\”It was the worst feeling I\’ve ever had on live television,\” Bischoff said about the promo. Warrior\’s promo went almost half an hour, causing chaos for the production that night.

Bischoff was asked by Conrad how many minutes he feels they had scheduled for Warrior\’s promo.

\”Under 10,\” Bischoff responded. \”Probably 7 or 8 tops. Keep in mind we had to hit a commercial break. Fortunately, we were owned by the same company that owned the network we were on.\”

Bischoff continued to say that even short promos can be hard to keep the audience engaged for.

\”I think this could have gone as long as 27 minutes,\” Bischoff said about Warrior\’s promo. \”I don\’t know anybody who can get out there for 27 minutes and hold an audience.\”

Bischoff told Warrior to wrap it up during the promo.

\”When you\’re standing in that ring and the camera is on you and you realize that at home 3,4,5 million people possibly are dying all at the same time, there is nothing worse as a producer or a talent of live television than a moment like that, and that\’s how I felt.\”

  • Jim Ross Comments On Ultimate Warrior\’s WWF Run In 1996

The Ultimate Warrior briefly returned to WWE in 1996. He defeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley at WrestleMania 12 but was gone from the company by that July. Jim Ross recently spent some time on his Grillin JR podcast talking about Warrior\’s return to the company and why it was so short-lived.

JR commented on why Triple H was booked against Warrior at WrestleMania 12.

\”The deal with Hunter was the fact that he already was a hell of a good worker and we knew that he could take care of Warrior and be in the right place at the right time to not exploit the Warrior\’s weaknesses. That\’s the mark of a great talent and Triple H is a great talent.\”

Jim Ross On Ultimate Warrior/Jerry Lawler Angle

One thing that was brought up was when Warrior conspicuously wore a baseball hat during a segment on RAW. Jerry Lawler was going to hit him with a picture frame during the segment and Warrior evidently wore the hat to protect him from the shot.

\”Selfishness. Lack of trust. Lack of understanding,\” JR said about Warrior\’s decision to come out wearing a hat for the segment. \”You\’re working with Jerry Lawler for god\’s sake. Do you think Lawler\’s going to hurt you? No, he isn\’t. You think that you\’re the first guy to get hit over the head with a framed picture? No, you\’re not. But, he influenced his angle because it was convenient for him, and the fact that his balls are small, they\’d fit in a thimble, and he decided to basically hijack the angle.\”

Warrior then no-showed some events and things fell apart between him and WWE.

\”The reason he wasn\’t given a bigger push is the lack of confidence. He still was a volatile, combustible talent that you could not really fully trust, ever.\”

  • Jim Ross Says The Ultimate Warrior \”Wasn\’t A Good Person\”

Jim Ross shared his opinion of The Ultimate Warrior on a recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast. Good o\’l JR worked with Warrior during the late Hall of Famer\’s 1996 return to the World Wrestling Federation.

\”I think he was a giant pain in the a** from day one,\” Ross said on the show.

JR and Conrad Thompson were discussing a lawsuit involving Warrior on the show, leading to JR\’s comments.

\”He had a massive ego, knowing that he was not highly skilled, knowing that his #1 selling point was his physique and his charisma that largely was created through music and lights and pyro and things of that nature.\”

Ross continued to talk about why he didn\’t feel Warrior was a good person.

\”He wasn\’t a good person in my view, that\’s my opinion,\” JR continued. \”I thought that he used extremely coarse and abusive language in front of women of all ages. I thought that was ridiculous, I seen it with my own eyes.\”

Ross continued to talk about Warrior\’s Hall of Fame induction. Ross noted he\’s glad his family and fans got to celebrate him before he died.

\”I\’m sad that he passed, I\’m glad that he got his moment in the sun before he died, I really am, for his fans\’ sake and for his family,\” JR said.
