  • How John Cena Supported Tyson Kidd After Career-Ending Injury

John Cena is a good guy.

The Cenation Leader started the last leg of his retirement tour with a triumphant return to TV on Raw this week. It was an especially emotional affair for the crowd in Boston, Massachusetts as it was the 48-year-old\’s last appearance as an active performer in his hometown.

The Boston Herald put together an article around the Hollywood star\’s final WWE appearance in the city. It featured comments from various WWE stars, highlighting what the wrestling legend means to the industry.

Fellow wrestling veteran Natalya was one such person interviewed for the piece. She revealed how John Cena made effort to support her husband, TJ Wilson when he suffered a career-ending injury:

“John is a good friend and a great person, when TJ got injured, John was the one who took the time to reach out.

When TJ was recovering, John would call and talk with him. He’d even take us out for dinner. The injury was very emotional and traumatic, but John made TJ felt heard.”

Wilson, known to fans as Tyson Kidd, suffered a spinal cord injury while taking a Muscle Buster from Samoa Joe during a Raw dark match back in June 2015. The injury ended Kidd\’s in-ring career and forced him to move into a producer role.

John Cena has only three appearances left in his retirement tour after his stop at Boston. The 17-time world champion will be making his final appearance at Madison Square Garden in New York City next Monday on November 17.

  • Rey Mysterio\’s Daughter, Tatanka\’s Sons, Training With WWE Stars

The Dungeon 2.0, the training facility of Natalya and Tyson Kidd, is busy training the next generation of wrestlers within its walls. On Instagram, Natalya shared a photo from the latest training session, revealing that Aalyah Mysterio, daughter of Rey Mysterio, has been getting in the ring. Aalyah had plenty of names to learn from, including Natalya, Kidd, her father Rey Mysterio, Apollo Crews, Angelo Dawkins, and B-Fab, among others.

    https://media.sescoops.com/uploads/2025/09/\"https://media.sescoops.com/uploads/2025/09/\"

Aalyah is no stranger to appearing in wrestling. An interruption of her birthday would kick off Rey\’s feud with CM Punk in 2010, a feud that resulted in Punk losing his hair. Years later, Aalyah got in the face of her brother Dominik at WrestleMania 39, and had a drink thrown on her by her big bro.

These weren\’t the only notable names at the Dungeon\’s latest training session. Eagle-eyed fans will spot WWE Hall of Famer Tatanka on the left-hand-side of the image. In recent days, Tatanka\’s sons Jeremiah and Joseph have also been training at the Dungeon 2.0.

Time will tell if Aalyah or Jeremiah ever make it to WWE, or if their time in the ring is more-so about their own physical fitness rather than pro-wrestling aspirations. Whatever the case may be, the Dungeon 2.0 is proving to be a hot bed of notable young names, leaving fans excited to see who\’s next to step out of the Dungeon and carve a legacy in the squared circle.

  • \’It Makes Me Sick to This Day\’ – Samoa Joe Talks His Largest Regret

In June 2015, a taping of WWE Superstars went tragically wrong as a Muscle Buster by Samoa Joe would result in Tyson Kidd suffering a serious neck injury. Nearly a decade later, Kidd has never returned to the ring, a sign of just how dangerous even a practiced move can be.

On the Insight podcast, Joe reflected on the moment in question. Calling the spot the \”largest regret in my career,\” Joe recalled realizing that something had gone horribly wrong after he saw the reaction of Kidd\’s tag-team partner.

\”The only thing that even hinted that there’s something wrong is when Cesaro looked back up at me. I know when Cesaro is concerned and then I was like, \’Oh my God, I hope everything is okay.\’\”

It makes Joe \”sick to this day\” that Tyson Kidd is no longer wrestling and he praised the Canadian as an \”amazing human being\” with a great mind for the business. Despite having used the move countless times before with no issue, this one mistake left Joe ready to retire the Muscle Buster.

\”I didn’t want to [continue using it]… I didn’t want to replay the car crash in front of somebody. So I did my best to distance myself from it.\”

Joe wouldn\’t embrace the Muscle Buster again until his return to WWE NXT where he would become the first-ever three-time NXT Champion. As for Kidd, he has become a highly-respected WWE producer who recently come close to a return to the ring.

Joe and Kidd\’s situation reflects the inherent dangers every wrestler, no matter where they compete, put themselves in when they wrestle. For Joe, all it took was a move he\’d done countless times without issue to end a career, a fact Joe lives with every single day.

  • Update On Tyson Kidd & Potential In-Ring Return

A devastating neck injury would bring an end to Tyson Kidd\’s wrestling career in 2015 and the former Tag Team Champion today works as a producer. Now, close to a decade after that unfortunate Muscle Buster, talk has resumed about a potential return to the ring.

On Sunday, March 23, Future Stars of Wrestling will host the \’Beynefit for Bey\’ in Las Vegas, a benefit for TNA\’s Chris Bey who suffered a severe neck injury in October 2024. Speaking to Fightful, FSW owner Joe DeFalco shared how early plans could have seen Kidd in action.

\”Rey Mysterio was going to work the show, which was crazy to me. He wanted to work. He was trying to tag team with TJ Wilson [Kidd], who hasn\’t wrestled in forever.\”

Kidd told DeFalco that he wouldn\’t do any high-flying moves and keep to the mat to avoid aggrevating his neck. Kidd pitched for a tag-team match main event, pitting himself and Rey against Dominik Mysterio and Karrion Kross.

Unfortunately, WWE\’s ongoing tour of Europe \”put the kibosh\” on plans for this match as Kidd and other WWE names are pre-occupied. DeFalco even shared that CM Punk wanted to be a part of the \’beynefit\’ but WWE commitments have prevented that.

\”Bey was talking to CM Punk yesterday and Punk was like, \’If we weren\’t on this tour, I would have worked the show.\”

Despite this, the show will see WWE involvement as Karrion Kross will be in action against former TNA talent Hammerstone. AEW will be represented by Brian Cage, Swerve Strickland, Ricochet, and others, while TNA representatives will include Frankie Kazarian, The Rascalz, and more.

The fact that it was his WWE commitments, and not his injury, that sunk Kidd\’s in-ring return is certainly notable. With several names returning from career \’ending\’ injuries including Bryan Danielson, Cope, and Saraya, one can\’t count out the impossible for Tyson Kidd.

  • How Tyson Kidd Proved Crucial To Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels Reconciling

On the January 4, 2010, edition of WWE Raw, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels reconciled in the ring, over a dozen years after the events of Survivor Series 1997. The pair had been at odds both before, and long after the events of that fateful November night in Montreal, and TJ Wilson played a role in the reconciliation, according to WWE veteran Natalya.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Natalya shared that it was Wilson who helped bridge the gap between Michaels and Hart years after the Montreal Screwjob.

\”TJ had said something to Bret like, \’I had a really great talk with Shawn and he was awesome and he was so nice to me and he was so nice to Nattie and he was just such a cool guy. He was giving me advice and being really helpful.\”

Shawn disclosed that he felt \”so bad\” about his past issues with Bret, Natalya added, and that it was Wilson who \”opened up the conversation\” between the two WWE legends.

\”We can all thank TJ for being the person that opened up that door because TJ is somebody that Bret really respects, and (he) trusts his word.\”

During the interview, Natalya spoke about Michaels in his current role as WWE SVP of Talent Development and head of NXT. The Showstopper has been praised by many for his work with the silver brand and the former Divas Champion is no exception.

\”Shawn is so encouraging to everyone. He makes you feel so good after you get back, so happy and so good about yourself. I honestly just had the best experience at NXT. And I\’m always excited about the opportunity of going back.\”

As for Hart, he appeared on Monday Night Raw last month in his native Calgary, where he unsurprisingly got a hero\’s welcome from the Canadian crowd. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest from Bret and Shawn as the two icons of the ring have been able to put their differences aside and move forward with their lives.

  • Natalya Staying With WWE

After great speculation that Natalya could be heading to AEW once her contract expired, it appears as if the \’BOAT\’ will be sticking around WWE.

PWInisder first reported that Natalya re-signed with WWE and Fightful Select later confirmed that news. Her new deal has reportedly been in place since late June but contract negotiations seemed to begin back in May. The new contract is reportedly a multi-year deal.

Natalya had interest from companies outside of WWE and it\’s understandably so considering she has been very hands-on with wrestlers from all promotions. A lot of different names have gotten some extra training at her Dungeon 2.0.

An added point of note regarding the Natalya news was that Tyson Kidd had interest from outside companies as an agent too. WWE was reportedly in the right to be concerned about losing Natalya and the company wanted to make certain they locked her down. The deal happened to get done before she hit the free agent market.

Natalya is one of the longest-tenured names on the WWE roster, being over 16 years with the company. Within the last year, she\’s been a big part of helping talent in NXT and also has been major in getting rising talent over, recently competing against Lyra Valkyria on an episode of WWE RAW. There was a good deal of speculation that she could be available to head to AEW and compete in the Owen Hart tournament, but that obviously didn\’t happen.

  • Longtime Indie Talent to Help With The WWE Royal Rumble

WWE is bringing in an outside name to help with this year’s Royal Rumble event, and that’s Jason Cade.

Fightful Select reported today that the indie wrestler will be working as a producer for the company, specifically in helping produce the 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match next week.

The report noted that WWE Producer Tyson Kidd was said to be instrumental in helping Cade come in, as Kidd usually produces women’s matches in the company, including the Royal Rumble match.

    Jason Cade’s Background

Cade has trained alongside Kidd and Natalya in the past. Last month, Cade noted on Instagram that he was leaving Orlando to move to Los Angeles so that he can pursue his dreams.

Cade hasn’t wrestled for quite a while after breaking into the business in August 2012 after training under Norman Smiley, who currently works at the WWE Performance Center.

Throughout his in-ring career, Cade has worked for numerous promotions over the years, such as CZW, EVOLVE, GCW, GFW, Impact Wrestling, MLW, Lucha Underground, PWG, ROH, WWN Live, and others.

In 2020, Cade worked two WWE matches where he lost to Aleister Black (Malakai Black) on the March 30, 2020, Raw episode, then lost to Ariya Daivari as a part of his $10,000 Challenge on the September 18, 2020 edition of WWE 205 Live.

He also worked two matches for AEW that same year as current AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy defeated him on the May 12, 2020 edition of AEW Dark, and Marko Stunt on the May 19, 2020 edition of Dark.

  • Tyson Kidd Reveals How He Started Producing Women\’s Matches

There have been two women\’s main events in the history of WrestleMania and both have been produced by Tyson Kidd. The retired wrestler has become synonymous with women\’s wrestling within WWE in recent years. A lot of female performers have credited him for many great ideas.

During his interview with Dropkick podcast, the WWE star revealed how he originally started working on women\’s matches. He recalled that Carmella was the first woman to start requesting him as a producer after they worked on a match together:

\”Carmella [is] someone who\’s really understood my formula. I texted her this at one point during the pandemic. I hadn\’t seen her for a little bit. I sent her a text and I was like, \’hey, just so you know, I have never forgotten.\’ She was the first girl that started requesting me to work with her. On Raw [at] one point I kept working with Seth and then on SmackDown I would do random things, and one time I had a woman\’s match. I had Carmella and somebody and then Carmella started [requesting me].\”

    \’I Don\’t Picture Myself Doing Anything Else\’

Tyson Kidd then explained how things evolved from there. Other women slowly started making the same requests. According to the former tag team champion, now he can\’t imagine himself doing anything else:

\”She was first one to start requesting me. Then one time in Tampa, it was Becky [Lynch] versus Carmella. I have known Becky since like 2005. Becky\’s another very special [performer]. So then, Carmella and Becky had a match. Then Becky was like \’Wait. Where do you come up with this stuff?\’ I was [like] \’I don\’t know.\’ But yeah, I\’ve never forgotten that Carmela was the catalyst of [it]. Now, I don\’t picture myself doing anything else but working with these women. So, thanks Carmella.\”

  • Tyson Kidd Returns to WWE Producer Role, Backstage at Raw

The WWE locker room was overjoyed Monday night as Tyson Kidd (TJ Wilson) made his return to the company backstage as a producer for a match during this week\’s Raw broadcast.

Kidd was noted for the tremendous work he has done over the years with the women\’s division in particular. However, he took some time off in the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble. Per Fightful Select, Molly Holly, Pat Buck and Shawn Daivari had taken up much of the work that Kidd previously was responsible for on a weekly basis.

Fit Finlay was also brought in to help produce the women\’s Royal Rumble match this year as Kidd had left several weeks before that event. Finlay had previously been working at WWE NXT.

The specifics of why Kidd took some time off were not publicly revealed initially, but since that time, the general consensus has been that he needed to take some time to rest his neck. There were rumors at the time that he could be quitting the company or had been unhappy, but those reports were quickly dismissed as inaccurate. In the end, it appears that that old neck injury occasional requires some rest and treatment.

Kidd suffered a career ending neck injury in a dark match with Samoa Joe back in June of 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. After having surgery and recovering from the injury, Kidd eventually transitioned to his current role as a backstage producer where he has received rave reviews over the years.

Kidd\’s return means he is back just in time for the biggest show of the year — WrestleMania 38 this weekend in Arlington, Texas. SEScoops will have full coverage of all of the news leading in to WrestleMania, as well as full results from both nights (Saturday and Sunday), so make sure to check back with us as the event nears.

  • Becky Lynch Names Tyson Kidd The \”Best in the Biz\”

It has been a long hard road for Tyson Kidd. The former WWE tag team champion had his career ended in 2017. Lucky to be alive after a bad bump from a muscle buster on a RAW dark match against Samoa Joe. Even luckier it could be said to come out the other side being able to walk or move at all. The injury was very similar to that suffered by Christopher Reeve.

Tyson Kidd is aware of how lucky he is. Offered a full-time backstage role with WWE in 2017, Kidd has wasted no time in becoming a pivotal figure behind the scenes. He has been instrumental in pushing the women’s division. He has become s driving voice behind women’s wrestling and is the producer for most of their matches.

Many have credited him for the award-winning Wrestlemania 37 match between Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair.

There can be no escaping the fact that Tyson Kidd is a popular figure backstage. He has learned a lot about wrestling and himself as a result of his injury. This knowledge he is all too happy to pass on to the next generations.

It’s not surprising, therefore, that so many stars turned out to wish Tyson Kidd a happy 41st birthday yesterday. Including the Man herself, Becky Lynch, who proudly declared Kidd as being the “Best in the biz!”

Shanya Baszler also took time out to proclaim that Tyson Kidd was a genius.

In recent interviews, he talked about how he feels prouder of what the WWE women’s roster is achieving than he ever did in his own career. It is a sad fact that there will be no Daniel Bryan or Edge style comeback for Tyson Kidd. However, he is relishing his new role and has a very promising future ahead of him.

  • Tyson Kidd On How WWE Took Care Of Him After Career-Ending Injury

Tyson Kidd\’s wrestling career ended abruptly after he suffered a neck injury. The injury took place in a dark match back in June 2015 before a WWE show.

However, the company has since helped him in finding new opportunities within the business. While he can\’t wrestle anymore, he now helps put together matches behind the scene as a producer.

During a recent interview with WrestlingInc, Kidd opened up about how the promotion also helped him after his nasty injuries. According to him; the company took care of everything:

\”With my injuries, my neck and my knee, the [WWE] took care of absolutely everything. I have had, luckily, the best surgeons in the world work on me, and that is through the WWE.

Obviously, I wouldn’t have hurt my knee if I wasn’t wrestling that day in Green Bay, Wisconsin, for the WWE. But they didn’t hurt my knee, it was just a thing. But they took care of every single aspect of my knee, and the same with my neck.”

Tyson Kidd also mentioned that he was under contract with the company the entire time he was rehabilitating. The former tag champion claimed that he can\’t say enough good things about them:

“With my neck, I was obviously not out of the company, I was under contract the entire time, I was just at home. But I was at home for almost two years.

They made sure I had a great surgeon, I had to get airlifted out of Texas, and yeah, they covered a lot of things. I can’t say enough good things about the medical in terms of just what I have experienced with them.”

When asked if he ever sits back and reflects on his career accomplishments, Kidd said that he is not bad at living in the moment and he is not too worried about looking too far ahead.

Tyson Kidd made his wrestling debut back in 1995 at a young age of 15. He signed with WWE in 2006 and wrestled for the promotion until his injury in June 2015.

  • Tyson Kidd Recalls Interesting Backstage Interaction With Shawn Michaels

Tyson Kidd has been involved in the wrestling business for almost all his life which started with him making his in-ring debut in 1995, at the age of 15.

In a recent interview with WrestlingInc, the retired wrestling star talked about a number of things and opened up about his experiences in the wrestling world.

During the interview, Kidd told an interesting backstage incident with Shawn Michaels, where he had heard HBK say that he was nervous before a match:

“I was a kid, about 15 years old, and I remember seeing Shawn Michaels earlier in the day of WrestleMania 12, Diana Hart was asking if [Shawn] was excited for the match. And I remember him saying he was really nervous.

Tyson Kidd explained that he had made his debut the summer before and he found it interesting that even Michaels got nervous before a bout:

“I’d had my first match the summer before, and I am a 15-year-old kid, and I remember being insanely nervous. I remember sitting there and hearing those words come out of Shawn Michaels’ mouth in 1996 and I was like, ‘Shawn Michaels is nervous? No way!

I thought I was just nervous!’ [Michaels] did say to [Diana] later that he was nervous about entertaining the crowd for that amount of time. So, it was kind of an interesting thing to see Shawn Michaels say that.”

Apart from this Tyson Kidd also discussed how he has been a part of many WrestleManias throughout his life and shared his experience of being there for various editions of the show of shows.

  • Tyson Kidd Says Vince McMahon Wouldn\’t Let Him In The Royal Rumble

Tyson Kidd\’s final wrestling match took place a few weeks before his 35th birthday. He wrestled Samoa Joe in a dark match on RAW in the summer of 2015. During the bout, Kidd took a Muscle Buster from Joe that resulted in a career-ending spinal injury. According to comments he made recently in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Kidd tried to get back in the ring for an appearance in the Royal Rumble but the idea was shot down by Vince McMahon.

\”The truth is I won\’t wrestle again,\” Kidd said during the interview. \”I tried doing one Royal Rumble. A lot of thought went into it but it got turned down and I\’m not mad at it. It was kind of funny the way Vince laid it out to me he said \’we can control everything that we can in our power but what if something happens? What if something we don\’t control happens?\’\”

He would later mention some dates in his story which confirm this was the 2019 Royal Rumble in Phoenix he was referring to.

\”I always had it in my head to at least approach (coming back),\” he continued. \”Take it day by day, see how I feel with my neck and stuff. I knew the secret with the Royal Rumble was I could do it and not have to take any bumps.\”

\”Bumping is the thing that stops me,\” he continued.

A clip of Tyson Kidd talking with Chris Van Vliet is below:

  • Tyson Kidd On What Would Be His Dream Retirement Match

Tyson Kidd never got a proper closure to his in-ring career and a lot of fans believe that the former champion deserves a retirement match.

The WWE producer opened up about his current role with the company on his recent interview on the Angle podcast and revealed that he has also thought about a potential retirement match.

Kidd first mentioned how he had thought about competing in a match such as Royal Rumble porior to his retirement before putting the idea to rest. He then went on to reveal his dream retirement match:

\”In terms of an actual match, would it be me vs. Cesaro or me vs. Harry or me, Cesaro, and Harry in a match against The New Day? Right as I got hurt, I saw Jason Jordan and Chad Gable started hitting their strides and I thought of what great matches we could have. I think Gable is so good.\”

Tyson Kidd suffered a neck injury during a dark match with Samoa Joe on Raw back in 2015 which turned out to be a career-ending blow for the former wrestler.

He has since taken a backstage role in WWE as a producer. Kidd has had a hand in producing many of the memorable women\’s matches in recent times.

  • Tyson Kidd On What Vince McMahon Told Him About His Producer Role

Tyson Kidd had to retire from wrestling due to his unfortunate neck injury but the former Champion has since found a new role in WWE and he now works as a producer backstage.

The former WWE wrestler, alongside his wife Natalya, recently appeared on Corey Graves\’ After The Bell podcast where he talked about a number of different things.

Talking about his transition from a wrestler to a producer, Kidd said that it was fairly smooth and he also revealed what the Boss Vince McMahon told him about his new role:

\”So the transition was fairly smooth to be honest. It was smooth in terms of I like helping people. I liked helping talent with their matches prior to my injury. Obviously, now as a producer it becomes more a larger responsibility than just me as a talent giving advice.

What I didn\’t know was I didn\’t know how fulfilling it could actually be,\” Kidd said. \”I was told by the boss that now you\’ll be like me, vicariously living through the talent, and I thought those were just words. And I\’ve now come to realize that it\’s very real.\”

The former NXT star said that the feeling of fulfilment in his role is very real and claimed that it\’s a great feeling when the talents go out and execute the things they had planned even better than he had imagined.

Apart from this, Tyson Kidd discussed helping out with Natalya\’s SummerSlam match against Becky Lynch, the Women\’s Revolution and more.

  • Tyson Kidd On His Time In NXT, Teaming With Cesaro, Earning Respect

Former WWE Superstar Tyson Kidd has looked back on his time as a part of WWE\’s black-and-gold brand, NXT. Joining WWE show, The Bump, Kidd opened up about his career and the year he spent as part of the NXT roster.

\”I\’m so happy. If you take a look back at my body of work in the ring, I\’m so happy that I had that NXT run… It sucks that my in-ring career came to an end, but I\’m glad that I had that full-year body of work,\” Kidd said.

He continued, \”My time in NXT was so fun. Those Takeovers were awesome, but when we\’d do those tapings, and I would wrestle four times in a night, I was driving home from Orlando to Tampa, I was exhausted, but felt so accomplished that nobody does what we do. It was myself, Sami Zayn, Neville, and Tyler Breeze. Breeze was a bit of an unsung hero between the four of us. He doesn\’t always get the full props that he should get; he was a huge part of it. His character work is so awesome. He was very essential towards everything that I did at that time.\”

    Tyson Kidd & Cesaro

His former tag team partner Cesaro called into the show to discuss what it was like teaming with Kidd. He noted how much respect he has for him, his training and his time in WWE. For him, when they got into the ring together to tag for the first time \”everything clicked.\” Cesaro doesn\’t believe they were necessarily meant to be a team, but they pursued it together and \”made that happen with a conversation with the boss.\”

Having suffered a tragic spinal cord injury during a WWE Live Event, Kidd found his in-ring career cut short. Looking back on his retirement, Kidd confessed he wasn\’t expecting the respect and kudos he received from his fellow WWE Superstars. For him, however, earning their respect had always been an important factor in how he wanted to conduct himself.

\”I wanted to build respect with my peers… I felt like I had done that throughout my WWE career. I really felt it and knew it was there when I got injured. I got flooded with texts and people calling me and visitors all the time.\”

Kidd continued, \”Of course, Cesaro, being one of the main guys, he was with me that night. He traveled off the road and came to see me when I had surgery. He brought me Starbucks and Chipotle, which is the usual combo.\”

Tyson Kidd would eventually be hired by WWE in 2017 as a full-time backstage producer.
