TNA’s creative team is taking shape after Tommy Dreamer’s departure, with Hunter “Delirious” Johnston and Vice President of TV Production Eric Tompkins now set to work hand in hand on the booking.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that one person inside TNA described the pairing as co-heads of creative, though the company has not formally confirmed that structure. Tompkins does list “executive creative director” as one of his roles on his X profile, and he has been with TNA since 2009, starting as a production assistant before working his way up.
Dreamer confirmed his own exit on Busted Open Radio, saying he and the promotion mutually agreed to part ways after a conversation with TNA President Carlos Silva. He stressed there was no ill will, adding that he wants the company to survive and “be the best it can be.”
The bigger question is who else joins the table. PWInsider notes there has been internal buzz about additional names, but nothing has been put in place on that front yet.
Road Dogg Lurks As The X-Factor
We’ve know former WWE writer Brian “Road Dogg” James has been in talks with TNA, with those discussions reportedly happening before the recent round of departures. Whether that interest specifically targets Dreamer’s old spot is unclear.
James left WWE earlier this year, where his last role was co-lead writer on SmackDown, citing a desire for more family time. For now, the working belief is that Delirious is the head booker alongside Tompkins, with the mood backstage described as somber following the cuts.
The shuffle lands just ahead of Slammiversary on June 28 in Boston.
