Escobar previously left WWE briefly last year before being brought back to the company. Following his return, he was moved to AAA programming as part of the brand’s roster.

The release makes Escobar the latest name to depart WWE as part of the company’s ongoing roster cuts. Multiple superstars have been released by the promotion in recent weeks.

No additional details about the nature of Escobar’s injury or the circumstances surrounding his release have been disclosed at this time. WWE has not issued an official statement regarding the departure.

Santos Escobar To Undergo Second Surgery

Santos Escobar’s recovery from tricep surgery has hit a setback. The superstar announced he requires a second procedure to address a complication that emerged from the initial operation.

Escobar posted the update on Instagram, revealing he needs surgery on his ulnar nerve after describing the development as “a minor hiccup” from his previous procedure. He expressed disappointment at missing WrestleMania week, one of the most significant stretches on the calendar.

Escobar was originally expected to be sidelined until late summer following the tricep surgery. The additional procedure leaves his return timeline unknown for now.

The original injury occurred during the AAA Rey de Reyes tournament, where Escobar competed in a four-way match in the finals. A video filmed after the event showed him clutching his arm and confirming he would be out for an extended period.

The ulnar nerve runs from the neck down to the hand and plays a critical role in arm and hand function, making a full and careful recovery essential before any return to in-ring competition. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Santos Escobar announced on March 18, 2026, that he will be out of action for months due to a torn tricep and vowed revenge on El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. The injury was aggravated at the AAA Rey de Reyes final against El Grande Americano, Original El Grande Americano, and La Parka.

Escobar, a WWE and AAA superstar, remains part of Legado Del Fantasma. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

The injury originally occurred during an NXT house show tour around Royal Rumble weekend while working with El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. Initially there was hope that it wasn’t a full tear, but it turned out to be quite serious.

    Escobar’s Revenge

Escobar is vowing revenge on El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. and is targeting his mask, which holds enormous significance in Lucha Libre tradition.?

“When I come back, because you better believe I’m coming back. I’m not just coming back for that title. This time, I’m coming back for what you value most, what you say is the most beautiful thing in Mexican Lucha Libre. Be careful what you wish for.”

El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. interfered during the AAA Rey de Reyes final, costing Escobar the match. Tricep surgeries typically require several months of recovery, so there is no timetable for Escobar’s return.

Some fans showed concern about his movements during the match, and it was later reported that Escobar had actually been working the show hurt.

The Mexican star hurt his shoulder during a singles match with AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. back in January. He was said to be set for a torn tricep surgery this week after aggravating the injury in the latest AAA show.

The 41-year-old seemed to confirm these reports in a video posted by the company on their social platforms this Wednesday. Clutching his arm, Santos Escobar said that he will be out of action for months and warned Wagner Jr. about what will happen when he does come back:

“The medical report says I’ll be out for months….months. This is what I do. To provide for my family, my legacy. And you messed with it.

Santos Escobar will be undergoing surgery.

Fightful Select is reporting that the 41-year-old is set to undergo surgery for a torn tricep this Thursday, after dealing with the injury for a while.

According to the site, Santos Escobar originally suffered the injury while wrestling El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. during an NXT Live Event over the Royal Rumble weekend in January.

The high-flying star had stopped working the live events after that but he competed in a couple of matches for AAA recently, while still dealing with the damage.

Unfortunately the former LWO member aggravated the injury during his most recent match at Rey de Reyes involving the two El Grande Americano and La Parka, and he will now have to take an extended hiatus.

Escobar had recently been in news when screenshots showing him in the alumni section of WWE’s website led to speculation about his release from the company.

It was later revealed, however, that his profile had originally been moved to the alumni after his contract expired last year. The Mexican star re-signed with the company shortly afterward but he was never moved back to the active roster page.

SEScoops wishes a speedy recovery to Santos Escobar.
