  • Rhino Makes AEW Debut On Dynamite

AEW Dynamite featured a legendary surprise tonight, May 7, 2025, as ECW original Rhino made his debut for the promotion. The \”Man Beast\” arrived to challenge Nick Wayne for the ROH World Television Championship.

Unfortunately for the veteran powerhouse, his first outing in an AEW ring ended swiftly. Wayne secured a quick pinfall victory over Rhino using the Killswitch finisher made famous by his mentor Christian Cage.

This marked Wayne\’s second successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship. While Rhino came up short in his AEW debut, his appearance adds him to a notable list of former ECW standouts who have graced an AEW ring, following names like Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and Raven.

Furthermore, fellow ECW alumni Jerry Lynn and Taz remain integral parts of AEW, serving in prominent backstage and commentary roles, respectively. Despite the loss, Rhino looks ahead to another championship opportunity; he is scheduled to challenge NWA World Heavyweight Champion Thomas Latimer at the NWA Crockett Cup event on May 17th. Rhino\’s Dynamite appearance provided a nostalgic moment for long-time fans and added another layer of veteran presence to the AEW landscape.

  • Rhino Doing AEW Media Tour Ahead of Dynamite Debut

Rhino is a true legend of the wrestling business, and it appears his future could be with All Elite Wrestling. Recently, the Man Beast from Detroit, Michigan has been making media appearances for Tony Khan\’s promotion, generating excitement among fans about a potential \”All-Elite\” future.

The veteran has spoken to several news outlets, including CBS Detroit, FOX2 News, 101 WRIF, and WXYZ Detroit, sharing his insights on AEW and the professional wrestling landscape. With decades of experience across WWE, ECW, and TNA Wrestling, Rhino brings valuable perspective to discussions about the industry.

These media appearances come ahead of Rhino\’s upcoming AEW debut. The wrestling legend will appear on the May 7 edition of AEW Dynamite as well as the May 10 edition of AEW Collision. These appearances follow Rhino\’s departure from TNA Wrestling in late 2024.

With Rhino sharing his thoughts ahead of his AEW arrival, fans should expect that his appearances this week might signal not just a one-off visit, but the beginning of something significant.

  • Rhino Announces End Of TNA Run

TNA Hall of Famer Rhino has announced that his 5-year run with the company will be coming to an end this week.

The wrestling veteran made the announcement on Facebook, revealing that his match with Ryan Nemeth during the December 14 Impact TV tapings from Atlanta, GA will be his last match for the promotion:

“Tomorrow is my last day with TNA Wrestling. I am wrestling Ryan Nemeth. It will most likely be the last time EVER I will wrestle in a TNA ring. If you can make it to Center Stage in Atlanta, come and be part of this 5-year chapter of my life and our journey. Thank you to all of the amazing wrestling fans for your support. I’m not done wrestling but TNA and I have parted ways. ?”

Rhino\’s second run with TNA started with a surprise appearance at Slammiversary XVII in 2019, while he was still under WWE contract. He would go on to sign a contract with the company after getting his release from the Endeavor-owned promotion.

During his second run, the hardcore veteran has not won any singles titles in the company. Though he has held the tag titles multiple times, having reigns with Heath Slater and Joe Doering.

The former ECW star was inducted into the 2024 TNA Hall of Fame at Bound For Glory alongside TNA co-founder Bob Ryder in October this year.

  • Rhino & TNA Co-Founder Bob Ryder To Be Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Since 2012, TNA Wrestling has welcomed some of its premier stars into its Hall of Fame with Sting, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, and Abyss all receiving the honor. This year, the \’Man-Beast\’ Rhino will receive his spot in the TNA Hall of Fame alongside Bob Ryder.

    Rhino

Rhino joined TNA Wrestling in July 2005, just over a month after exiting WWE following that year\’s One Night Stand pay-per-view. At that year\’s Bound for Glory, Rhino would reach the top of the mountain, dethroning Jeff Jarrett as NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Rhino is also a two-time TNA World Tag Team Champion and won the 2008 Turkey Bowl contest.

Outside TNA, Rhino is known for being the final ECW Champion of the original promotion, where he also held the World TV Championship twice. In WWE, Rhino held the Hardcore title three times, the WCW U.S. Championship once, and was one-half of the inaugural WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

    Bob Ryder

Concerned over WWE\’s monopoly of wrestling in the U.S. following the demise of WCW and ECW, Ryder co-founded TNA Wrestling in 2002 alongside Jeff and Jerry Jarrett. Ryder was TNA\’s first employee and became the company\’s longest-tenured employee in history as he remained with TNA until his passing in 2020. During his tenure, Ryder held several roles with the company, including working as the Director of Travel Operations.

Before co-founding TNA, Ryder proved himself for years as an innovator in the wrestling media. At WrestleMania 11, Ryder became the person to conduct an online interview for the WWF when he fired questions as opponents Shawn Michaels and Diesel. In a statement after his passing, TNA referred to him as \”the heart and soul of the promotion.\” Eric Young, a friend of Ryder\’s will induct and receive the honor on his behalf.

Rhino and Ryder will be inducted as part of the Countdown to Bound for Glory on October 26, from Wayne State University Fieldhouse in Detroit, MI (Rhino\’s hometown.) Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest from Bound for Glory including live results and breaking news.

Speaking on the podcast, Rhino said, \”I would really like to… I don\’t know why Kevin Owens\’ name just popped in my head. Probably because I am here in Philly, and I am talking to you from Philly.

\”I’m at that point where I’m starting to, you know, [be] less in the ring and more behind the scenes in phase and that’s one of the beauties I love about Impact. One of the many beauties is that I can start producing. So, and then hopefully I can get, God willing, five more years out of in the ring full time. • Rhino Signs Contract Extension With Impact Wrestling (Report)

It looks like Rhino is staying in Impact Wrestling.

PWInsider is reporting that Rhino has re-signed with the promotion. The terms of the new deal have not been revealed. Rhino\’s previous deal with Impact Wrestling began back in 2019 after he made the decision to leave WWE.

During an interview with Sporting News back in 2019, Rhino explained why he chose Impact as his landing spot.

“It’s a company on the right path for almost two years,” Rhino said when asked what signing with Impact meant to him. “They have been moving in a direction where wrestling fans want a company to go in terms of letting the talent be the talent, having bookers booking the matches on the card as opposed to writers.

“I think a lot of fans are drawn to a promotion like that. Not speaking against other promotions, but other promotions are doing it differently because they’re very successful. But I think there’s a niche where you have to let talent be talent and have enough talent where it’s not drowned out too much and where you don’t have enough TV time and run enough shows to use them. It’s up to the talent, whether to sink or swim. And Impact because guys have more control when their contracts are up.”

Rhino has had success with Impact. Back when the promotion was called TNA Wrestling, he captured the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. He also won tag team gold in the company alongside members of Violent By Design.

  • Title Change In Tonight\’s Impact Wrestling Main Event

Tonight\’s episode of Impact Wrestling saw a title change as Rhino and Joe Doering from Violent By Design defeated FinJuice to become the new Impact Wrestling tag team champions.

The main event of this week\’s episode of the weekly show saw the team of Juice Robinson & David Finlay successfully defending their title against the duo of Ace Austin and Madman Fulton.

However, after the bout, VBD leader Eric Young announced that they were going to cash in Rhino\’s Call Your Shot Trophy, leading to the champions defending their titles the second time in the night.

The ending to this match saw Doering hitting Robinson with a massive lariat while Rhino crushed Finlay with a Gore. Doering then picked up a pin fall victory for his team, making them the new champions.

FinJuice had won the tag team titles in March earlier this year. They had defeated Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson, The Good Brothers at the Sacrifice PPV.

Rhino had won the Call Your Shot Trophy in a 20-wrestler intergender gauntlet match at last year\’s Bound For Glory event in October. He had last eliminated Sami Callihan to win the match.

  • Rhino Talks About His Last WWE Run, Keeping His Name

Former WWE Superstar Rhino was a recent guest on Chris Jericho\’s podcast, Talk Is Jericho. During the course of their conversation, Rhino addressed his final run with WWE and how he managed to keep his wrestling name upon leaving the promotion.

\”My last run in WWE was for three years, a three-year contract, and I\’m thinking, \’Okay, well wh wasn\’t it more successful?\’ When I was going in, I didn\’t go in with enough steam. So anyways I\’m like, \’Well, okay, what was wrong, what did I do wrong?\’ And I think what it was is I was working so hard on the campaign, not just on knocking on doors, you have to file with the campaign finance committee and all that stuff, so there\’s a lot of detailed work trying t get your message there and all that stuff, and then getting ready for one opponent and the next round.\”

He reflected on the mistakes of his final run with WWE before noting that he still enjoyed it as he got to work with Heath Slater. Rhino stated that despite this, he wished he could have had a more successful experience. For him, that doesn\’t necessarily translate to being on TV more as he mentioned coaching others and working more behind the scenes.

    Keeping The Rhino Name

Turning his attention to how he managed to keep the ring name \’Rhino,\’ the former Superstar recalled the different names WWE once tried to pitch him, including \”Mary.\”

\”They were kicking around different ideas, Juggernaut was one. The worst one Edge said was Mary and he goes, \’Yeah, he kept the best one and the worst one.\’ They didn\’t have me sign R-h-y-n-o over to them but when they re-signed me, I think it was 2002, they re-signed me a year early, and they had in there signing over r-h-i-n-o and r-h-y-n-o. And I said I\’ll sign over r-h-y-n-o because you guys did the homework and all that stuff but I\’m not signing over the one with an \’i\’ and they go, \’Okay, no problem.\’\”
