  • Jim Ross Reveals What Powerhouse Hobbs Told Him Before Royal Rumble

Powerhouse Hobbs thanked Jim Ross for all his support.

The former AEW TNT Champion left the Tony Khan promotion earlier this month. The belief is that he has officially signed with WWE and the creatives are just waiting for the perfect opportunity to introduce him on TV.

Jim Ross, who has been a mentor to the 35-year-old since he joined the Tony Khan promotion in 2020, discussed his future on the latest episode of his podcast. The AEW commentator revealed a recent conversation he had with Powerhouse Hobbs, where the young star thanked him for all his support:

\”He called me a day or two ago thanking me for my help over the years. I said, ‘Well, my phone number isn’t going to change, big fella. So if you need me for something — need a little motivation, need a question answered, or just want to shoot the sh*t — I’m your man. I want to help you if I can.\’”

The WWE Hall of Famer also speculated that Hobbs will be making his debut in the Royal Rumble match. Ross argued that it would make no sense not to use the former AEW star for the big event after signing him close to the PPV.

While there is no guarantee of Hobbs making his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble, a couple of other names have been confirmed to be in Saudi Arabia ahead of the Saturday night show. You can check out more about it here.

WWE Rumor: AJ Lee vs Becky Lynch \”Locked In\” for WrestleMania 42

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, sources suggest that AJ Lee vs Becky Lynch is considered one of the more \”locked in\” matches for WrestleMania 42. The long-rumored dream match between the two former Divas Champions appears to be moving forward after months of speculation.

Despite multiple creative hurdles in bringing Lee back to active competition, WWE officials are committed to making this match happen at the biggest show of the year.

If confirmed, this would mark Lee\’s first singles match at WrestleMania in her career—a fitting stage for one of the most anticipated dream matches in recent memory.

With Royal Rumble taking place in Saudi Arabia next week, speculation is running wild about whether Austin could make a surprise appearance—though his history with the Saudi shows makes this unlikely for that particular event.

WWE Rumor: Powerhouse Hobbs New Ring Name

Now that Powerhouse Hobbs\’ WWE signing has been confirmed, attention turns to what he\’ll be called on the main roster. It\’s believed that WWE\’s reent trademark for the name \”Royce Keys\” will be the super heavyweight\’s new moniker.

  • Powerhouse Hobbs Has Signed His Next Contract

Powerhouse Hobbs has chosen his path.

The former TNT Champion had left AEW after his contract expired last Wednesday, with the belief that he was heading to WWE.

Though the former Don Callis Family member had held the trios title with The Opps until the last day of his AEW run. With reports of AEW making him a huge offer to stay with the promotion, there had been at least a possibility that he could choose to return to the company.

Now Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select is reporting, however, that Hobbs has made the next chapter of his career official by signing a deal with the Endeavor-owned promotion:

There is no word on when or where Hobbs will make his debut for WWE, but the company\’s recent trademark \’Royce Keys\’ is speculated to be the new ring name for the heavyweight star.

The next few months are shaping up to be an exciting ride for WWE fans with multiple big surprises. This includes the highly speculated return of Chris Jericho and another popular star who had been dealing with an injury. You can check out more about it here.

  • Bully Ray: TNA Must Sign Powerhouse Hobbs Despite WWE Deal

Bully Ray is urging TNA Impact to make a play for Powerhouse Hobbs, even as WWE appears positioned to sign the former AEW star, according to comments made on Busted Open Radio.

With Hobbs\’ AEW contract having expired earlier this month, the 35-year-old heavyweight has become one of the most sought-after free agents in professional wrestling.

WWE sources reportedly believe Hobbs has already agreed to terms with the company, with expectations for his presence during Royal Rumble weekend in Saudi Arabia at the end of January.

However, Ray believes TNA shouldn\’t sit idle in pursuit of available talent, pointing to the company\’s improved financial standing.

\”If I\’m TNA, I\’m making a play for Powerhouse Hobbs. Forget about WWE. TNA should be making a play for Powerhouse Hobbs also. TNA should be making a play for anybody that\’s out there. They\’re in the game now. They got some money from AMC. They need to step up to the plate too.\”

The WWE and TNA Hall of Famer expressed his support for Hobbs regardless of where he lands, with one notable exception—he doesn\’t want to see him remain in AEW.

\”I would love to see Hobbs in TNA. I would love to see Hobbs in WWE. The only place I don\’t want to see Powerhouse Hobbs is in AEW.\”

TNA has remained in the spotlight throughout January 2026 with a new media rights deal, fresh talent acquisitions, and significant re-signings. With some talents moving elsewhere this month, the promotion now has roster spots to fill, making Hobbs an even more desirable option from Ray\’s perspective.

Bully Ray\’s \’Clubber Lang\’ Blueprint for Hobbs in WWE

If given creative authority to book Hobbs in WWE, Ray revealed he would model the debut after Mr. T\’s intimidating character James \”Clubber\” Lang from Rocky III—building anticipation through a slow-burn presence.

\”How you always saw T in the audience scouting Rocky. You saw little clips of T. He would watch the fight and then he would leave. I would see Hobbs in the audience for months as a big, menacing, intimidating presence that was always around. Who is this guy? What is he doing here? You can\’t miss him. He\’s always on camera.\”

Ray compared the approach to recognizable front-row fans who become identifiable through repeated appearances, but with Hobbs\’ imposing physical presence making the impact far more dramatic.

\”There is a six-foot-four, 300-pound jacked to the gills Black man sitting in the hard camera shot every freaking show. Then we find out when he jumps the guardrail, he destroys everybody, and he gets arrested and taken out. I would use Hobbs as an absolute killer monster. This guy looks the part. He\’s credible.\”

NXT Could Use a New Big Man

With Oba Femi\’s imminent move to WWE\’s main roster following his dominant NXT Championship reign, Ray pointed out that the developmental brand now needs another imposing presence. Hobbs\’ extensive in-ring experience could make him a valuable asset for NXT while filling that void.

Should Hobbs make a surprise move to TNA instead, it would mark his first appearance with the company. However, he already has working history with current TNA World Champion Mike Santana and former champion Frankie Kazarian from their time together in AEW.

Hobbs spent nearly six years with AEW, holding the TNT and World Trios Championships before his recent departure. His next destination remains officially unconfirmed, though industry sources increasingly view his WWE signing as inevitable.

  • WWE\’s Reported Plans For Powerhouse Hobbs

Powerhouse Hobbs might debut directly on the WWE main roster.

The former TNT Champion is believed to be on his way to WWE, after his deal with AEW expired earlier this week. Latest reports suggest that the company officials are so confident about landing him that they have already started making plans for his arrival.

According to Fightful Select, the expectation is that the heavyweight star will be undergoing a name change upon his WWE debut, though it could simply mean shortening his current ring name to just Hobbs.

The 34-year-old had been made \’huge\’ offer by Tony Khan\’s promotion to stay with the company, but he had made up his mind about leaving.

While it\’s unknown if WWE is matching the offer, the report suggests that there has been pitch for Powerhouse Hobbs to appear directly on the main roster, and he could join the SmackDown brand.

There is no word on when or how the company is planning to introduce Hobbs to WWE TV but with his contract expiration, he is free to make his debut as soon as this Friday\’s episode of the Blue Branded Show.

Hobbs is officially still the AEW Trios Champion with Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata. You can check out what AEW is doing about that here.

  • AEW Champion Jumping Ship To WWE (Report)

WWE is set to add a powerhouse to their roster.

According to latest update from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the contract of AEW star Will Hobbs is set to expire this Wednesday and he will be entering free agency at midnight. The former TNT Champion is believed to be on his way to WWE, with sources within the company expecting him to join the promotion soon.

AEW officials had the intention of retaining the services of the heavyweight star and negotiations have been going on between the two sides for some time. While Tony Khan is said to have made a \’substantial\’ offer for him to remain with the promotion, Powerhouse Hobbs decided to explore free agency instead.

Despite the decision, however, the former champion is not parting ways with the company on bad terms. This is reflected in his recent booking as well, with Hobbs being featured regularly on TV in recent months as part of The Opps faction.

Having made his wrestling debut back in 2009, Hobbs spent 11 years in the independent circuit before AEW brought him on board in 2020. He has been part of factions such as Team Taz and Don Callis Family in the promotion. It\’s unknown what WWE is planning for the wrestling star but we should get an idea soon.

Hobbs also holds the AEW Trios title with his Opps partners. You can check out spoilers on how AEW is dealing with that situation here.
