WWE Legend Jokes About Nick Khan’s Earnings From WrestleMania 42

WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has voiced his disagreement with WWE’s recent decision to release the Motor City Machine Guns. He also said that WWE President Nick Khan took half of WrestleMania 42’s net revenue.

The WWE Hall of Famer made his stance clear during a Q&A session on his Kliq This podcast. He discussed the April 24 wave of roster cuts. The releases of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin caught Nash’s attention among the departures announced that day. He said:

“I would not have gotten rid of the Motor City Machine Guns, that’s for damn sure.”

Nash’s comments reflect the surprise some fans felt about the tag team’s exit. The Motor City Machine Guns had been part of WWE’s roster before the company decided to part ways with them.

Kevin Nash Jokes About Executive Compensation

When asked if the latest round of cuts surprised him, Nash said not really, especially after seeing recent reports about TKO executive compensation. He joked about WWE President Nick Khan’s earnings in relation to the roster decisions.

“Not after like two weeks prior when I see what the CEOs [are making]. What Nick’s getting paid. I mean, Nick took f***ing half of the WrestleMania net [laughs],” Nash said. “But I’m busting his balls because we sat here and went over the numbers and the year before was 1.4 billion. The next year, you’re 1.7 billion. So that’s 300 million.”

Nash also acknowledged that Khan has delivered significant financial growth for WWE. Khan reportedly earned $24.3 million in total compensation for 2025, including a $2 million base salary, $11 million in stock awards, and over $10 million in bonuses.

  • Motor City Machine Guns Expected to Sign with AEW After WWE Exit

Motor City Machine Guns Expected to Sign with AEW After WWE Exit

The Motor City Machine Guns are expected to sign with AEW following their WWE release last Friday. According to Fightful Select, sources believe Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin will eventually land in Tony Khan’s promotion, though no deal has been confirmed yet.

Shelley and Sabin confirmed their WWE exit via social media while promoting their band’s new EP. The duo had signed with WWE in September 2024 and captured the SmackDown Tag Team Titles a month later.

Sources at TNA told Fightful they remain open to a Motor City Machine Guns return. However, those same sources expect the team to ultimately choose AEW over a TNA comeback.

Motor City Machine Guns History with TNA and AEW

The tag team spent the bulk of their careers in TNA from 2007 to 2012 before returning for brief stints starting in 2022. Between their TNA return and working independent promotions, Shelley and Sabin made their AEW debut in 2022.

They competed in a six-man tag team match at AEW All Out, partnering with Jay Lethal against FTR and Wardlow. The appearance marked their first exposure to AEW’s audience.

The Motor City Machine Guns’ WWE run lasted approximately seven months. Their release came as part of the company’s latest round of talent cuts.

Motor City Machine Guns’ Expected Landing Spot After WWE Release Revealed

Motor City Machine Guns are heading toward free agency, and the early indications are that All Elite Wrestling could be their next destination.

Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will be out of their WWE contracts in July following the company’s post-WrestleMania roster cuts on April 24. According to Fightful, TNA sources have indicated there is always a home for the team there, but the expectation among those sources is that AEW will ultimately be where the duo lands. No contact between AEW and Motor City Machine Guns has been confirmed at this stage.

The history between the team and AEW makes the speculation logical. AEW made Motor City Machine Guns an offer in 2024 before WWE matched it and signed the pair. That prior interest suggests the door in Jacksonville was never fully closed, even after the team spent less than a year in WWE.

Those within WWE who spoke to Fightful described Sabin and Shelley as aware that opportunities would continue to exist for them outside the company and comfortable with their future. The duo expressed some disappointment at not having wrestled more during their WWE tenure, though they acknowledged they had been used at least consistently for a period before their workload slowed in recent months. They were not planned for travel to last week’s SmackDown tapings.

Sabin and Shelley joined WWE in the fall of 2024 and won the WWE Tag Team Championships in just their second match with the company.

    Chris Sabin Confirms WWE Release

Motor City Machine Guns are no longer with WWE, with Chris Sabin confirming on X that both he and Alex Shelley were among the talents released in the company’s post-WrestleMania roster cuts on April 24.

“Yup, they released us. Anyways, check out our band GRPPLNG here’s a link to pre order our 4 song EP. Love you all.”

Sabin and Shelley joined WWE in the fall of 2024 and wasted little time making an impact, capturing the WWE Tag Team Championships in just their second match with the company. Their run came to an end as part of a wave of departures that also included Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Kairi Sane, and the Wyatt Sicks among others.

No statement beyond Sabin’s confirmation post on X has been issued by either member of the team regarding their future plans in professional wrestling.

In a previous interview with SHAK Wrestling last year, Shelly revealed that working for Triple H was a major factor in their WWE decision.

“We have no idea whose idea it was to bring us in,” Shelley said. “What I can say, though, we talked directly to Paul, Triple H, and he treated us with the utmost respect. A huge factor in our decision was that we wanted to be players on his team. We wanted to be a part of the WWE machine, specifically with him leading the charge.”
