Former WWE Star Reveals Why She Really Dated Cody Rhodes

Former WWE Divas Champion Layla El recently shared her thoughts on Cody Rhodes’ remarkable rise in WWE, praising the current Undisputed WWE Champion’s dedication and drive.

Rhodes has established himself as one of WWE’s top performers since returning at WrestleMania 38. He currently holds the Undisputed WWE Championship in his third reign, having defeated Drew McIntroe on the March 6, 2026 episode of SmackDown in Portland, Oregon.

Speaking with Sportshadow Wrestling, Layla reflected on Rhodes’ journey and revealed she recognized his star potential early in his career. The former Divas Champion explained why she believed he was destined for greatness.

“I, 100%, saw that. I started dating Cody because I knew he was going to be a star and he had a lot of dreams and everything that he told me that he was going to do, he’s done it,” Layla said. “So, congratulations to him because for someone who can tell you their dreams and they’re going to make it happen and they do make it happen, congratulations!”

She continued, “So yeah, I mean of course I saw it because I wouldn’t have dated him or been with him if I didn’t see everything that people will see now. So yeah, I did.”

Rhodes’ current championship reign marks his third time holding WWE’s top title over the past two years, cementing his status as one of the company’s premier attractions on SmackDown.

  • Fans Express Outrage Over WWE Hall of Fame 2025 Induction \’Snub\’

Michelle McCool will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year, but her choice of inductee has angered several fans of the inaugural Divas Champion. This week, WWE revealed who will be inducting at the April 18, ceremony and it will be The Undertaker who inducts McCool.

While the Phenom is hardly a surprising choice given that he and McCool have been married since 2010, many fans feel he is the wrong choice. On X, many fans argued that Michelle\’s Lay-Cool partner Layla should be the one inducting her at the ceremony. This resulted in Layla\’s name trending on the platform.

The anger of fans comes at an interesting time for McCool\’s career. For WWE LFG\’s second season, McCool will replace Mickie James as one of the show\’s judges. It has been reported that The Undertaker pushed for McCool to be added to the show, though did not state that she should replace James. Nevertheless, this has led to anger from fans and accusations that the couple are using the Phenom\’s sway, resulting in James, a highly-respected name in wrestling, being cut.

The Undertaker\’s involvement isn\’t the only questionable WWE Hall of Fame inductee. Despite the hopes of many, including Lex Luger, Sting will not be inducting his friend, and the role will instead be performed by DDP. While DDP has done wonders for Luger\’s health, many believe it should be Sting, still under contract with AEW, who should be doing the honor.

The WWE Hall of Fame will take place on April 18, as part of the massive WrestleMania week lined up. While McCool will be able to celebrate her induction with her husband by her side, it remains to be seen if Layla has any role as part of the ceremony.

  • Layla Would Love A LayCool Reunion

Former WWE star Layla is open to making a return to wrestling before it\’s too late.

The former Diva\’s Champion was part of the WWE roster from 2006 to 2015. When she departed the company, the wrestling veteran not only took a break from the industry but she left the limelight completely.

The former champion was asked about a potential wrestling comeback now that she is back doing appearances during a recent interview with No Name Wrestling Podcast. Layla admitted that she would love to do something before it\’s too late:

“Yeah, now there is. Before, absolutely 100% no. I was not open to anything. I wanted a break. I wanted to get away. But now, absolutely. Before I get too old and I can’t come back and do anything.\”

    One More Time: Layla

One of the highlights of Layla\’s WWE career was her partnership with Michelle McCool. The duo known as LayCool were partners for more than 2 years and they found success together, even leading to Layla winning the Women\’s Title.

The 2006 Diva Search winner noted that she would love to have a reunion with Michelle if it\’s possible and share the ring with her best friend one more time:

\”Yeah, I would…one more time. I would honestly come back to do a LayCool reunion. If that is possible and if that is something that could happen, why not? It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.

And we did, we had a lot of fans when we were together. Lay-Cool was a stable for a while…we were together for what, two and a half years, I think. So I would love to reunite with my best friend. I really would. Just one more time.”

The WWE women\’s tag team titles have gained a little bit of momentum with the recent reign of Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. After Cargill was taken out by an unknown assailant recently, however, the future of the belts is in doubt.

With the Royal Rumble PPV coming up in 2 months, it\’ll be the perfect opportunity for a LayCool return, with them having a short reign with the championships during the WrestleMania season.
