  • Former Commentator Issues Warning After New Day WWE Departure

Former WWE commentator Jonathan Coachman recently issued a strong response to WWE’s handling of contract renegotiations following Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ departure from the company.

He posted what he called an “emergency wrestling take” on social media, warning that the situation could have widespread consequences for the locker room.

Coachman didn’t mince words about WWE asking talent to renegotiate existing deals. He framed it as a fundamental shift in how the company operates under the TKO system.

“My emergency wrestling take: why asking talent to renegotiate is just the start of a slippery slope that feels like an absolute power struggle backstage,” Coachman posted on his social media.

Coachman Compares Current WWE to Vince McMahon Era

The veteran broadcaster drew a sharp contrast between current WWE practices and how things operated during Vince McMahon’s tenure. He emphasized that contract renegotiations after deals were already signed simply didn’t happen during his time with the company.

“In my entire time in the WWE… never once did I hear of Vince McMahon asking a talent after they had already agreed to a deal,” Coachman stated in his video.

He warned that The New Day’s exit is just the beginning if WWE continues this approach.

“It’s not going to stop with The New Day. And this is why it’s such a problem.”

Respect and Fairness at the Core of the Issue

Coachman broke down why he believes Kingston and Woods chose to leave, pointing to respect as the central issue. He argued that asking talent to renegotiate existing agreements sends the wrong message.

“If you’re going to disrespect me… that’s exactly what it is,” Coachman explained. “At some point, fairness has got to bleed into the conversation.”

He predicted that WWE could see an exodus of talent if the pattern continues.

“Now you’re going to start to see it go the other way… when all these talents start to leave,” he warned.

Coachman closed his take with a blunt assessment of the renegotiation strategy.

    “Renegotiation. That ain’t it.”

The comments add another voice to the growing conversation about WWE’s contract practices under TKO ownership. What began as a story about The New Day’s departure has evolved into a broader discussion about talent relations and business practices in the company.

Ex-WWE Commentator Calls Out WrestleMania Celebrities and Ticket Sales

Former WWE commentator Jonathan Coachman recently slammed WWE’s decision to involve celebrities in the WrestleMania 42 main event scene following last night’s SmackDown.

The Coach raised questions with both Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll being featured prominently in the feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.

On SmackDown, Jelly Roll also confronted McAfee over his recent turn on Rhodes and alignment with Orton.

    Coachman Questions Celebrity Involvement

Taking to X after SmackDown, Coachman shared what he called an “Emergency SmackDown Take” and made his views clear.

“I never make a video on Friday night, but this is embarrassing, the business that I’ve been in for 25 years.”

“Individually, I love Cody, Randy, Legends, Hall of Famers, Jelly Roll, one of my favorite performers, Pat McAfee, a unicorn. Respect. It’s not their fault. But are you serious?”

“Celebrities, no matter how much they train, should not be used in main event storyline as a prop… are really going to sell any more tickets. With eight days to go from people outside of Las Vegas, what are we doing?”

    Ticket Discount Announcement Draws Criticism

McAfee announced a 25% discount on WrestleMania 42 tickets, seemingly in response to tickets still being available. Coachman questioned WWE’s decision to promote this discount so close to the event.

“Eight days before WrestleMania, we’re gonna do the equivalent of walking out there and having Pat McAfee say, I’m doing you a solid… here’s a coupon, everybody,” Coachman said.

“In what universe does a family of four say, oh, I get 25% off tickets tonight, so let me go book 1,000 worth of plane tickets to go to Vegas and spend another three to 4,000 after I get there on eight days notice because you offered me a discount.”

McAfee will be in Orton’s corner when he challenges Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42 next weekend. Pat has vowed that he will leave pro wrestling programming for good should Orton fail to win the title from Rhodes in Las Vegas.

Jonathan Coachman Defends Pat McAfee WWE Role Amid Fan Backlash

Jonathan Coachman is defending WWE’s decision to involve Pat McAfee in the Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes storyline, despite heavy fan criticism following the April 3 episode of SmackDown. The reveal of McAfee as Orton’s mystery ally sparked backlash online, with many viewers saying it distracted from the long history between Orton and Rhodes heading into WrestleMania 42.

Coachman made his position clear in a video reaction posted to social media. He believes WWE made the right call by putting McAfee into the storyline in a major way.

“Say what you want about Pat McAfee… it is the perfect way to use him in the WWE,” Coachman said.

    Coachman Praises McAfee’s Work Ethic

Coachman went further, praising McAfee’s personality and drive. He pointed out that McAfee stands out compared to most people who step into WWE roles, citing his ability to connect with audiences and his overall work ethic.

“Pat McAfee does everything that I want to do that I try to do on the daily… He’s a unicorn. He’s different than almost everybody out there because he has hustle, he has heart, he has drive. That’s why he can pull this thing off,” Coachman stated.

The comments come as WWE faces continued criticism online for the creative direction of the Orton vs. Rhodes program just weeks before WrestleMania 42. Many fans questioned whether inserting McAfee into the storyline helped or hurt the build to what was expected to be a marquee match.

Whether fans agree with Coachman’s assessment or side with the critics, McAfee’s involvement has become one of the most talked-about elements of WWE programming heading into the biggest event of the year.
