Former WWE Star’s Return Is Imminent

Enzo Amore is expected to return to WWE on the NXT brand soon, with Dave Meltzer reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the plan is imminent. The status of his former tag team partner Big Bill remains far less clear.

Meltzer laid out what is and is not known about each man.

“The current plan has Enzo Amore to be in NXT soon. Nothing on Big Bill, the former Big Cass, is official or even talked about heavily in the company, but outside the company there is a lot of talk. It’s a Jericho situation where you go with the idea he’s off television for a long time with a contract coming due so he’s possibly leaving. In most cases that’s correct, but Jericho also showed you can’t say 100 percent. And Hobbs showed even if they are being kept on television and are holding a title and having big matches, you can’t say they are 100 percent staying either.”

False Finish previously reported that Amore was spotted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando ahead of the May 19 episode of NXT. Fightful Select has noted that Amore’s independent booking schedule had grown lighter, and that Big Bill’s AEW contract was expected to expire within the coming weeks.

Amore, 39, was fired by WWE in January 2018 following sexual assault allegations. The Phoenix Police Department closed the case with no charges filed. He continued wrestling under the names nZo and Real1, making appearances for MLW, GCW, TNA, and various independent promotions.

Amore and Big Cass debuted on Raw on April 4, 2016, the night after WrestleMania 32, and were immediately received as main roster stars before their eventual split in 2017.

Backstage Update On Enzo Amore-WWE Return Rumors

People close to Enzo Amore have been telling independent promoters that he is no longer accepting future bookings he would normally take, adding fuel to growing speculation about a WWE return, according to Fightful Select.

The update comes alongside continued reports of WWE’s interest in reuniting Enzo with his former tag team partner Big Bill, with both men maintaining strong relationships with WWE producers from their original NXT run.

Amore was recently spotted at the WWE Performance Center ahead of NXT on The CW. The combination of that visit and his apparent withdrawal from independent bookings has considerably intensified reunion speculation.

Big Bill, who works as Big Cass in AEW, remains under contract with the promotion through at least the end of May but has wrestled only twice in 2026 and has not competed since February. His contract situation has been the subject of reporting since April, when Fightful Select noted that his deal was believed to expire at the end of May or the start of June.

Enzo and Cass were one of WWE’s most popular acts in the late 2010s, known for their crowd reactions, catchphrases, and chaotic promos before splitting on the main roster in 2017.

WWE Reportedly Interested In Reuniting Popular Tag Team

WWE has interest in reuniting Enzo Amore and Big Bill, according to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, with the duo maintaining strong relationships with multiple WWE producers backstage — including several who worked with them during their original NXT run.

The report comes as both men find themselves available. Enzo Amore was spotted at the WWE Performance Center ahead of Tuesday’s NXT broadcast, per False Finish, and Self Made PW noted that WWE had been in recent contact with Amore. Big Bill remains under an AEW contract through the end of May at the earliest, per a separate Fightful Select report from April, and has appeared in just two AEW matches in 2026.

Amore was released by WWE in January 2018 following sexual assault allegations. The Phoenix Police Department closed the case with no charges filed. He has worked the independent circuit since his release, competing for MLW, GCW, House of Glory, and various regional promotions under the Real1 name.

Big Bill, formerly known as Big Cass, was released by WWE in June 2018 before stints in TNA and on the indies led him to AEW in 2024. He became AEW World Tag Team Champion alongside Ricky Starks and was part of Chris Jericho’s Learning Tree faction before teaming with Bryan Keith.

The pair held the NXT Tag Team Championship and were considered among the most over acts on the main roster before Big Cass turned on Amore in 2017.

Enzo Amore was recently at the WWE Performance Center, including the day before this week’s NXT broadcast on the CW Network, according to False Finish.

Amore was suspended and then released by WWE in January 2018 following sexual assault allegations. No charges were filed in the case. A representative for the Phoenix Police Department stated at the time that the case had been investigated to its fullest extent and closed, though noted it could be reopened if new evidence emerged.

The report immediately drew attention, given the timing. Fightful Select reported in April that Big Bill’s AEW contract was believed to be expiring at the end of May or the start of June.

Big Bill, who worked alongside Amore in WWE as Big Cass, has not appeared on AEW television since a February parking lot street fight on Collision and has had just two AEW matches in 2026. No updates on contract negotiations or a potential re-signing have emerged.

With Amore believed to be a free agent and Big Bill potentially returning to the market shortly, speculation has grown about the possibility of the former tag team reuniting in WWE.

No official announcement has been made by WWE regarding either man.
