  • Tony Khan Discusses Jon Moxley\’s Creative Genius Behind the Death Riders

Tony Khan has revealed that the iconic briefcase moment from AEW All In Texas was Jon Moxley\’s brainchild, offering rare insight into the creative collaboration between the promoter and one of wrestling\’s most compelling performers.

Speaking on the 100th episode of Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, Khan praised Moxley\’s contributions to the Death Riders storyline that defined AEW\’s 2025.

\”It was a brilliant and that was John\’s idea. It was brilliant. I talked to John a lot and I love John so much and he\’s one of the most brilliant people and I\’m very grateful that he came into our lives,\” Khan said of the briefcase presentation that saw Hangman Page retrieve the AEW Championship.

Khan detailed an extensive three-hour creative session with Moxley before All In London 2024 that helped shape the year-long Death Riders arc.

\”I remember talking to John for like 3 hours before All In London and just some brilliant things and to think how far he was able to take it and his resolution. I\’m so proud of what AW accomplished in 2025 and John Moxley is a huge huge part of it,\” Khan explained.

The AEW president also addressed how the storyline\’s conclusion recontextualized Moxley\’s entire 2025 run, particularly the fan perception shift.

\”I think that John Moxley made it clear from the beginning he was going to try to lift AEW and he succeeded. People maybe didn\’t see what he was trying with his intentions, but everything he said he would do, he accomplished. And then at the end of the year, it meant so much to me and so many people around the locker room to see the fans embrace Mox again like that.\”

Moxley recently won the Continental Championship and continues to be a centerpiece of AEW programming. The Death Riders storyline earned Best Rivalry honors at Sports Illustrated, cementing its place in AEW history.

  • Mixed Nuts Mayhem And More Added To AEW World\’s End This Saturday

The show featured the final group stage matches of the Continental Classic tournament, with Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, and Jon Moxley emerging as semi-finalists who will move on to the show this Saturday.

Darby Allin also confirmed his in-ring return for the upcoming PPV. He accepted the challenge issued by Gabe Kidd after the latter attacked him on Dynamite this Wednesday.

Apart from this, a \’Mixed Nuts Mayhem\’ bout pitting The Death Riders against the Conglomeration was announced. The Death Riders will be competing without Mox, while their opponents will be joined by Toni Storm for this bout.

  • Kris Statlander Names Potential Next Challenger After WrestleDream Victory

Kris Statlander is ready for any and all challengers.

The AEW Women\’s Champion appeared on the WrestleDream post-show. This came after she picked up another big victory, defeating Toni Storm at the PPV event.

The champ was asked if there was anyone not in the title picture who she thinks deserves a shot at her belt. Kris Statlander mentioned that Marina Shafir of Death Riders is probably someone who thinks that she is owed a title match:

\”Well, I feel like it could be anybody at this point, but I think someone who probably thinks they deserve and a lot of people related to her, or in relation to her that want to see her kind of take me out is probably Marina.\”

The Death Riders have tried to recruit Statlander on multiple occasions, but they\’ve been unsuccessful in this quest. The AEW Champion noted how they might not be so keen on her right now and joked that she would even defend the title against Wheeler Yuta if he steps up to the challenge:

\”I feel like possibly Death Riders might have a little bit of a… you know, they might be not so keen on me right now, and if they need me to put her in her place, they will.

Also if Wheeler Yuta wants to step up and challenge for this, I will put him in his place right the same. So whoever is brave enough, I\’m open to any and all challenges, and I\’m open to giving anyone a shot who is worthy.\”

Despite these comments, Kris Statlander will not get a lot of time to worry about Marina as a different star has already laid out a challenge for her at Full Gear. You can check out more about it here.

  • Watch: Former TNT Champion Turns Heel on Dynamite

The Death Riders have a new member.

AEW presented the last episode of Dynamite of their current residency from the 2300 Arena this week. The main event of the show saw The Opps and Brodido teaming up to take on Death Riders and The Young Bucks in a huge 10-man tag team match with the winners receiving $500,000.

The ending of the bout was very chaotic as expected with all the stars getting involved in the action and delivering one finishing move after another. The Young Bucks managed to steal the victory for their team in the end after using the ropes to get the pin on Bandido.

    Daniel Garcia Joins Death Riders?

The brothers tried to grab the cash and run away as the bell rang but Brody King chopped the bag out of their hands. Brodido then brawled them to the back, taking both teams away from the ringside.

Death Riders took the opportunity to beat up the Opps. They specifically went after Powerhouse Hobbs before Darby Allin came out to make the save. Just as Darby looked to take Mox out for good, however, Daniel Carcia came out of nowhere and attacked the Daredevil star.

Jon then got up and called for a chair. The chair was put in the middle, and the former TNT Champion delivered a brutal Curb Stomp to Allin on it. After a second Curb Stomp, Mox gave the order, and the Death Riders retreated to end the show, leaving a lot of questions behind.

  • NJPW Champion Expected To Compete At All In Texas

A top NJPW star will be joining the Death Riders for a match at All In.

This week\’s episode of Dynamite featured the surprise return of Gabe Kidd. The IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion attacked Samoa Joe during the show.

This came after the Samoan Submission Machine defeated Wheeler Yuta in a singles match with Coquina Clutch. Joe\’s partners, Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata, then came out, leading to Kidd retreating to the back.

Now Fightful Select is reporting that this angle was done to set up a match for the next AEW PPV taking place this Saturday. They had previously reported that The Opps vs. Death Riders was one of the planned matches for the show.

With Jon Moxley set to defend his world title at the event and Pac being out injured, the company needed a replacement. So they\’ve brought in Kidd, who is now expected to be teaming with the other Death Rider members this weekend.

Pac has not wrestled since the April 9 episode of Dynamite this year. He went up against Swerve Strickland in a singles match and seemingly suffered a leg injury while taking a buckle bomb from the former AEW champion.

This isn\’t the only All In match that has been affected by injury. A new report recently revealed a planned match that had to be cancelled. You can check out more about it here.

  • Watch: What Happened With Samoa Joe After Dynamite Went Off Air

Samoa Joe cut a passionate promo after this week\’s historic episode of AEW Dynamite from MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts, went off air.

The company celebrated the Wednesday night show becoming the longest-running weekly prime time wrestling series in the history of Turner Sports, beating WCW Monday Night Nitro. Tony Khan booked a show worthy of the achievement with a number of big matches.

The event title \’Spring BreakThru\’ opened with Athena\’s return to AEW TV in a match against Mercedes Mone. We also saw the first appearance by Christian Cage since the Revolution PPV on March 9.

The biggest surprise of the night was probably the debut of the former Impact World Champion Josh Alexander. The Walking Weapon was revealed to be the wild card in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament, and he faced Hangman Page at the show.

    What Happened After Dynamite

The main event of the show saw the trio of Katsuyori Shibata, Samoa Joe & Will Hobbs challenging The Death Riders for the AEW Trios title. Jon Moxley replaced Pac in the title defence due to the latter\’s injury.

Swerve Strickland, The Young Bucks, Willow Nightingale and Marina Shafir all appeared at ringside trying to influence the bout. It was Joe who won the match for his team in the end, taking out the AEW World Champion with a Coquina Clutch.

The locker room emptied out to celebrate the fall of the Death Riders after the match and the show ended with a number of big names celebrating in the ring. This celebration continued even after the show and Samoa Joe cut an off air promo to send the crowd home.

  • The Opps Win Trios Titles On AEW Dynamite

The Death Riders\’ stranglehold on the AEW Trios Titles came to an end during the latest episode of AEW Dynamite as The Opps captured the gold in a stacked main event. Both teams saw replacements, as Jon Moxley filled in for the injured Pac while Powerhouse Hobbs replaced HOOK for the challengers.

The Young Bucks tried to shift the match momentum toward the Death Riders but Swerve Strickland showed up to take both of them out. Willow Nightingale took out Marina Shafir when the latter tried to use a chair on Hobbs. The finish saw Samoa Joe choke out Jon Moxley to win the gold.

The Death Riders had held the titles since All In: London 2024, where Pac, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta ended the reign of the Patriarchy. Now, the 234-day reign of Moxley\’s faction has come to an end, and it\’s telling that Joe got the win over the AEW World Champion. Whether this means a future AEW World title match or not remains to be seen, but this week\’s defeat is a serious setback for the Death Riders.

  • Internal AEW Reaction To The Death Riders Storyline (Report)

AEW sees the Death Riders storyline differently than fans do.

The general reaction to AEW programming in recent times has been more positive than before. The company had seen a decline in interest in the past couple of years as the promotion strayed away from their original formula. With Tony Khan taking more control in recent times, fans have seen a general improvement in the product, and the promotion seems to be gaining momentum once again.

The one complaint that has persisted, however, is the continuation of the Death Riders storyline. Many fans believe that the group has lost its charm and that AEW should do away with the whole story, putting the world title on a different star.

Though the officials do not seem to agree with the sentiment. In a new report about the finish to the Dynasty PPV, Fightful Select provided an update on the Death Riders storyline. They noted that the AEW Top Brass see the whole thing as a success:

\”AEW internally has touted the success of the Death Riders and Moxley winning the title, citing a disconnect with online fans. AEW claims that the company\’s live+dvr quarters have climbed throughout the year with Moxley as champion, peaking with the Moxley vs. Cope street fight.\”

The ending of the Dynasty PPV this past Sunday saw Jon Moxley retaining the AEW title over Swerve Strickland. This came after The Young Bucks made their surprise return and took out Swerve. The site noted that there was never a plan for Strickland to win this match and that Mox has been planned for a lengthy title run since before he won the championship.

It\’s unclear if the Young Bucks had always been factored into the finish for the PPV, as many in the company were not sure how long they would be out of action. A theory is that Jay White was originally planned to be part of the main event in some capacity before his injury forced the company to change things up.

  • Claudio Castagnoli Defends Lack Of AEW Trios Title Defenses

The Death Riders captured the AEW World Trios Championships at All In: London 2024 but fans have been far from impressed with their reign. In an AEW Digital Exclusive, Claudio Castagnoli, one-third of the reign champions, blamed AEW\’s roster for why the titles are rarely defended.

\”You wanna know why these titles haven\’t been defended in over two, three months, huh?… That\’s because the pool is so shallow when it gets to the level that we are at. It\’s absolutely pathetic!\”

Since winning the titles, the Death Riders have defended the titles just six times, two of these title defenses coming in February 2025. Prior to that, fans would have to go back to the November 7, edition of AEW Collision to see the championships on the line.

These sporadic title defenses have only the issue fans have with the Death Riders and AEW\’s top storyline. Many feel the group lacks a clear creative direction, and that their mission to \’reshape\’ AEW has been too vague without clear goals. Fans have also taken issue to the faction briefly aligning with the Learning Tree, a somewhat comedic group that the ultra-serious Death Riders should, in theory, be opposed to in their mission to change AEW.

With a lack of clear challengers and a \”pathetic\” pool of talent, it remains to be seen how much longer the Death Riders hold the Trios titles. While the group is finally defending the titles more, the lengthy reign has proven an issue for countless fans.

  • Death Riders Destroy Wrestling Legends On AEW Dynamite

In the main event of the January 22nd episode of AEW Dynamite, Cope continued to build momentum against the Death Riders when he defeated PAC. On the titantron though, the faction was shown attacking the Rock N\’ Roll Express. Claudio Castagnoli hit Ricky Morton with a Con-Chair-To and Robert Gibson was laid out as well.

Not finished with their violence, the Death Riders then attacked Cope. While Jay White tried to make the save, he was outnumbered by the Moxley-led gaction. The group left Cope laid out before walking away.

This isn\’t the first time that the legendary Rock N\’ Roll Express has run afoul of the Death Riders. During the January 4, edition of Collision, the first show of its kind in 2025, Morton and Gibson were tied up backstage. Cope and FTR freed the two wrestling legends but the Death Riders had already fled by then.

Cope returned from injury at AEW Worlds End and immediately set his sights on Moxley and his goons. While a match isn\’t confirmed yet, fans can expect a World Championship showdown between the two in due time, perhaps as soon as Grand Slam: Australia next month. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Cope\’s feud with the Death Riders and how he plans to retaliate after the assaults handed out on the latest episode of Dynamite.

Page continued his attack on Yuta after the bout but the Death Riders just watched. The former AEW champion was about to Pillmanize his opponent when Jay White\’s music hit. White forced Page to retreat and then taunted the Death Riders.
