Kevin Knight Comments On Future of JetSpeed After Winning TNT Title

Kevin Knight says there is no problem between him and Speedball.

The 29-year-old picked up a big victory at tonight’s Dynasty PPV. He became the new TNT Champion in a Gauntlet match also involving his JetSpeed tag team partner ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey.

While appearing on the post-Dynasty media scrum, the new champion was asked about his win and if the dynamic between the two partners will change now that he has won a singles title in AEW before Bailey. Kevin Knight explained that he and Speedball have remained friends despite facing each other many times before, and he would happily defend his championship against his tag team partner:

“I know what you’re trying to do there. You’re trying to drum up a little bit of a problem between me and Speedball. Me and Speedball have faced off plenty of times in the past, so this is a team win for me and Speedball.

I’ve known him before I got here and we’ve had great chemistry. He only wants the best for me; I only want the best for him. And I would love to defend this against my tag team partner if you [Khan] would allow this, if we can set something up. Because we bring the best out of each other.”

Tony Khan also announced during the media scrum that Knight will be defending his title against Claudio Castagnoli on this week’s episode of Dynamite.

The title match tonight was the result of Kyle Fletcher relinquishing the championship due to an injury. You can check out the original Dynasty plans for Fletcher before that here.

Was Audible Called In AEW Dynasty Title Match Due To Injury?

    Gabe Kidd is injured.

The former NJPW star was taken backstage midway through War Dogs’ Trios Title defence on AEW Dynasty over a suspected shoulder injury. The Conglomeration then went on to win the championship after the returning Kyle O’Reilly made Clark Connors tap out.

The trio of Kidd, Connors, and David Finlay had only won the title on this week’s episode of Collision. So many people wondered if an audible was called during the bout and if the Dogs were originally supposed to retain the belts before Gabe was taken out.

Update On Trios Title Change On Dynasty

Fightful Select provided some updates on the matter after the match. They confirmed that Gabe Kidd appeared to be injured upon arriving backstage. As for the match finish, however, the site reported that the title change was always the plan:

“Kidd appeared to be holding his arm during the exit. The rest of the match had to be called on an altered plan. The finish was not changed, as Conglomeration was schedule to win all along.”

The severity of Kidd’s injury is not known at the moment, so it’s hard to say what his immediate wrestling future will look like. Stay tuned for more updates on his health.

Chris Jericho Loses Return Match At AEW Dynasty

Chris Jericho’s latest AEW run is starting with a loss.

The former World Champion returned to the company after a year long absence during the April 1 Dynamite. He brought back his popular WWE gimmick and then picked Ricochet as his opponent for Dynasty.

Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona accompanied Ricochet for this match, and they tried everything they could to help The Demand’s leader win the bout. At one point, Ricochet used the referee, Aubrey Edwards, as a weapon.

When Chris Jericho tried to counter with a Walls of Jericho, Toa ran interference, and Kaun threw Y2J into the turnbuckle. Though Ricochet still failed to get the pin after delivering a standing shooting star press, and the match continued.

The ending of the bout saw Chris finally locking in the Walls after countering a Shooting Star Press into a Codebreaker. Though his opponent smartly slid out of the ring to avoid a loss.

Ricochet then got the upper hand again and hit Spirit Gun. Gates of Agony stopped him from going for the pin, however, and gestured towards the ropes. The One and Only understood the assignment, and he hit the Lionsault to finally pin Chris Jericho.

There is no word on where the Attitude Era star will go from here, but it’ll be interesting to see how Jericho recovers from this loss.

New TNT Champion Crowned At Dynasty

    A new TNT Champion.

AEW had announced a gauntlet match for the vacant title to take place on the Dynasty PPV, after Kyle Fletcher had to relinquish the belt due to an injury.

Tommaso Ciampa who earned the #1 spot in the bout opened the match tonight with Rush. They were followed by Bandido, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, El Clon, PAC, Daniel Garcia, Anthony Bowens, Kevin Knight, in the respective order, with Wheeler Yuta being revealed as the final contestant of the match.

The ending of the bout was a chaotic one with so many talents involved. PAC connected the Black Arrow on Speedball, but Tommaso Ciampa stopped him from getting the pin. The former NXT Champion then went for the pin himself, only to be sent to the floor by Yuta.

Daniel Garcia looked to be edging closer to the title when he locked Bailey into the Dragontamer. Before Mike could tap, however, Kevin Knight came off the top rope with a UFO Splash and pinned Garcia to become the new TNT Champion.

Having officially signed with the company in March last year, this is Knight’s first singles title in AEW. Though he has previously had multiple runs with the Trios Title in the company.
