Hafthor Julius Bjornsson once came close enough to a WWE career that he booked a flight to Tampa to talk it through in person. The strongman legend and Game of Thrones actor, known to fans as The Mountain, detailed the meeting during a new interview with Ross Tucker.
Asked whether he had ever considered pro wrestling, Bjornsson confirmed the idea had real traction at one point. He flew out, sat down with Triple H and the team at the office, and listened to what WWE had in mind.
“At one point in my life, it crossed my mind, and I flew to Tampa, met up with Triple H and the team and went to the office and spoke to them,” Bjornsson said. “It crossed my mind that they were trying to do WWE, but nothing came out of it.”
The talks stalled for a simple reason: WWE could see where his head actually was. Bjornsson said the company recognized his focus belonged to the platform, not the ring.
“I think they saw that my mind was more into Strongman,” he said. “Yeah, we spoke, but nothing of all of it.”
This was not the first time the two sides circled each other. Bjornsson toured the WWE Performance Center back in 2015 alongside Paul Levesque and Stephanie McMahon, a visit that also ended without a deal as he leaned into Game of Thrones and his competitive career.
A decade on, his priorities have not budged. Bjornsson is set to attempt a new deadlift world record at Enhanced Breakers 1 in Los Angeles on July 11, 2026, the latest chapter in a strongman run that has made him the owner of the heaviest pull in history.
