  • WWE Raw Ratings Crash To All-Time Low Ahead Of TLC PPV (12/14)

Monday’s edition of WWE Raw averaged 1.526 million viewers with a 0.41 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. This was a record low audience for Monday Night Raw.

Here’s the hourly viewership breakdown for Monday night, which was the final episode before Sunday’s WWE TLC pay-per-view:

    • The first hour hour did 1.627 million viewers and a 0.44 rating (A18-49).
    • The second hour did 1.512 million viewers and a 0.41 rating.
    • The final hour of the show had just 1.441 million viewers and an abysmal 0.38 rating.

    Monday Night Raw Ratings Fallout

This week\’s raw record low is not a statistical anomaly. WWE Raw viewership has been steadily declining all year. During the first quarter of 2020, viewership was consistently above 2 million viewers. The Covid-19 pandemic caused a negative affect to WWE programming. The lack of crowds makes for a worse atmosphere. However, ratings went off a cliff after WrestleMania.

The last time WWE Raw viewership was above 2 million was around SummerSlam in August. This chart by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics paints the grim picture:

    \"\"/

For the first time ever, AEW Dynamite defeated all three hours of WWE Raw in the Adults 18-49 demo. AEW Dynamite last week did a 0.45 rating. This was higher than all three hours of WWE Raw this week.

Last week, WWE Raw had 1.736 million viewers and a 0.52 rating in the 18-49 demo. Just one year ago, the show 2.150 million.

Raw had some tough competition this week. The NFL on ESPN game between the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens topped 12.422 million viewers. However, NFL competition is nothing new. It does not explain the overall trend.

Vince McMahon and company have tried many \’quick fixes\’ to turn the low ratings around. Unfortunately, it will take more than a new gimmick like Raw Underground or a wildcard rule to turn things around for WWE.

    \"\"/

Bully Ray\’s Take On Raw Viewership

Former WWE Superstar Bully Ray commented on this week\’s Raw viewership on the Busted Open show on SiriusXM. He said the time for making excuses is over. “You can talk to me until you’re blue in the face about how people watch TV differently or it’s a different time, blah, blah, blah.”

Bully Ray thinks that WWE needs to get back to basics. “If you build your roster and people are over, [fans are] going to tune in. I don’t care what you have to do to get eyes on your product. If you have something that the people want to see? They’re gonna tune in, no matter what.”

    \"\"/

    Conclusion

WWE is making more money than ever thanks to lucrative television deals. If WWE does not address the foundational cracks at the root of declining viewership, the company\’s biggest cash cow is in jeopardy.

  • Kevin Owens On Goldberg: “I’d Love To Work With Him Again If He Was Here To Work”

Kevin Owens first worked with Goldberg in 2017 at the WWE Fastlane pay-per-view event.

Owens defended the WWE Universal Title against the legendary pro wrestler. The match lasted only seconds as a distraction thanks to Chris Jericho, who was feuding with Owens at the time, led to Goldberg not only beating Owens but winning the Universal Title.

Owens did an interview with Metro UK and was asked about a possible rematch with Goldberg.

“I’d love to work with him again if he was here to work. I’m not saying this is his fault, but he’s not – his career has never been about long matches or anything like that. ‘To me, I don’t see much positive out of wrestling him for two minutes, or 20 seconds or 30 seconds or whatever, you know what I mean? I’d love to work with him again if you got to do a story beyond – all we did was, what, two weeks, maybe three weeks?”

He continued by noting that if they did some cool promos where they would exchange words then have a quality match then he thinks that would be great.

“But that’s just not usually what he’s here for.”

Owens noted that Goldberg’s style of work does get over and he’s not against it, but not something that he’s interested in doing. He brought up that even while as a kid, he didn’t like it because that’s not what he’s looking for in wrestling.

  • Mauro Ranallo Discusses If He’ll Make Pro Wrestling Return, AEW Possibility

Mauro Ranallo departed from WWE for a second time a few months ago, which was a decision that he made.

Ranallo is still busy by being a commentator in the combat sports world including calling boxing for Showtime. During an interview with POST Wrestling, he left the door open about possibly going to another wrestling promotion. With such a question, AEW is going to be brought up.

\”I\’m not interested in going back to that kind of rigorous schedule [with WWE]. I would love to call professional wrestling still, and I\’m glad that there are many promotions.

I mean, AEW has been a win-win-win for them. Like the Monday Night Wars, I believe competition in every sense of the word should bring out the best in anyone. I\’m just grateful there are that many more paying opportunities for the workers. So, never say never, John.”

Ranallo noted that he also wants to explore other options and gigs. He’s also enjoyed branching out as a performer and broadcaster in addition to being an advocate for mental health.

He noted that he loves calling combat sports and wants to continue to do historic and monumental things.

  • Rhea Ripley vs. Toni Storm, Karrion Kross Set For Wednesday’s WWE NXT

WWE has announced several matches ahead of Wednesday’s episode of NXT.

The biggest thing to be announced is Pete Dunne vs. Kyle O\’Reilly with the winner getting a title shot from WWE NXT Champions Finn Balor.

This comes after this past week’s show that saw Dunne, O’Reilly, and Damian Priest make their case for why they should get a title shot only to have Balor state that it wasn’t his job to find opponents, but rather would leave that up to WWE NXT General Manager William Regal.

That will happen with Balor defending the strap against the winner at the New Year’s Eve special on January 6th.

Also set for this show is Karrion Kross returning to in-ring action against an unknown opponent, which will likely be in the ring to get squashed.

The former WWE NXT Champion had been on the sidelines after suffering a separated shoulder at NXT TakeOver: XXX when he beat Keith Lee to win the WWE NXT Title. He made his return last week when he attacked Priest.

  • Kenny Omega Challenges Joey Janella, No DQ Match Set For AEW Dynamite

A new match has been announced for Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite that will see Kenny Omega take on Joey Janela. It will be a No DQ Match.

AEW ran an angle whereby Omega issued a challenge to Janela to a match after he heard fans complain that he beat defeated late replacement Sonny Kiss rather than Janela during the world eliminator tournament. Omega went on to win the tournament and then captured the AEW World title from Jon Moxley at Revolution.

AEW touted the match announcement by writing, “Omega won the Eliminator Tournament to become #1 contender to the #AEW World Title. His scheduled quarterfinals opponent Joey Janela couldn’t participate due to safety protocols. Now Janela can earn a title shot with a win on Wednesday in his preferred element No DQ Anything Goes.”

    AEW Dynamite Card

    • Kenny Omega vs. Joey Janella – No DQ Anything Goes Match (if Janella wins, he gets a World Title shot)
    • Cody Rhodes with Arn Anderson vs. Angelico with Jack Evans
    • Hangman Page, John Silver, and Alex Reynolds vs. Matt Hardy and Private Party
    • The Acclaimed vs. SCU
    • NWA Women\’s World Champion Serena Deeb and Big Swole vs. Ivelisse and Diamante
    • Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, MJF, Sammy Guevara, Santana, Ortiz, Jake Hager, and Wardlow) vs. Top Flight, Brandon Cutler, Varsity Blondes, and Best Friends.

  • Reaction To Vince McMahon Sending Talent Back To The Performance Center

An interesting report emerged this week noting that Vince McMahon is unhappy with the in-ring work of several of WWE\’s larger wrestlers.

According to the Wrestling Observer, “Vince McMahon threw a fit about the working ability of certain guys on the main roster, mad in particular about some of the big guys.\”

He reportedly sent a batch of talent to return to the WWE Performance Center for training. The wrestlers in question include former NXT Champion Keith Lee, Otis, Dabbo Kato, Omos and Mace from RETRIBUTION.

The main roster talent sent back to the Performance Center will be working with PC coaches Adam Pearce and Drew Gulak.

Fightful Select has provided new details on the situation, including the backstage reaction to this shakeup. It was pointed out that many people were “baffled” that Keith Lee made it on that list because he’s considered to be one of the better workers in the company. Some tried to make sense of it by assuming he was lumped in with the rest of the \”big men\” despite being more than a capable worker.

Regarding Otis, he is still well-liked by the WWE Chairman. However, there have been some spots over the last few months that have caught the attention of those in management and there\’s a feeling that he could work safer.

  • Goldberg Comments On How Much Longer He Plans To Wrestle

Goldberg has two years left on his current WWE deal, but he’s not getting any younger, which leads to fans wondering how much longer he plans to wrestle for.

He commented on this question when doing an interview with Bleacher Report.

\”We always have to cross that bridge when we come to it,\” Goldberg said. \”I\’m 53 years old, I\’ll be 54 here in a couple of weeks. Hey, as long as my body can still do it, I\’m still going to do it.”

He continued by noting that it’s very tough to be a power wrestler at this age as he’s not the same person that he was in the past and he has the sense of questioning whether to continue is ruining his legacy. However, he still has to put food on the table for his family.

\”There are a lot of things that come into consideration, and at the end of the day, I\’m a businessman,\” he continued. \”I do what I got to do to stay afloat and stay out there. I don\’t see myself hanging it up any time soon, but then again, I also don\’t see myself wrestling until I\’m 60.\”

Earlier this week, he made headlines by calling out WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and saying that “The Big Dog” is next.

It’s been reported that WWE is looking to book Goldberg against Reigns at WrestleMania 37 next year.

  • WWE NXT India Brand To Launch In 2021

Fans can expect to see a new WWE NXT brand be launched next year and it’s going to be in India.

On Friday, a new report from Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and John Pollock of POST Wrestling was published that revealed the news. The article states that the new NXT India TV series will air in the Indian market.

It’s expected to begin filming in January. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on the talent that will be working on the brand, but it was noted the plan as of several weeks ago was to feature an eight-man single-elimination tournament for the new series.

Plans change all of the time in WWE so this was not confirmed as a fact, but the idea behind it is for the tournament to crown the first-ever NXT India Champion. WWE did a tournament to crown the inaugural NXT UK Champion as well.

The belief is the new NXT India series will air on linear TV in India as well as on WWE’s streaming service, WWE Network.

WWE does have a distribution deal with Sony Pictures Networks in India. This past March, WWE announced a five-year renewal for that deal, which also includes Sony having the rights to the WWE Network for its audiences through SonyLIV, which is their own OTT streaming platform.

Fans should look at this being India\’s version of the main NXT brand in the United States as well as the NXT UK brand based out of London, England.

  • Kenny Omega Set To Appear On Tuesday’s Impact Wrestling

As expected, Impact Wrestling has already announced that Kenny Omega will make another appearance on their weekly television show.

On Friday afternoon in a statement posted on social media and their official website, the promotion confirmed that the AEW World Heavyweight Champion would be appearing on Tuesday’s show on AXS TV.

Impact’s statement was short yet to the point as it read, “We have confirmed that AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Don Callis will return to IMPACT! this Tuesday at 8/7c on AXS TV!”

This comes off Omega’s most recent appearance on this week’s episode of Impact, which was a huge success for the promotion in viewership.

On Thursday, Impact touted the success of the crossover from one of All Elite Wrestling’s biggest stars.

Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore brought up how big of a deal Omega’s appearance on Impact in the presser that was sent out that noted it led to more than 750,000 fans tuning in to AXS TV or have logged on to official streams to watch the segment.

“It is hard to compare apples and oranges, and some digital media provide better watch-data than others, but we feel confident over 750,000 US-based fans watched the episode in the first 24 hours and 1 million fans have clicked on the various highlights we’ve put out on social media.”

This episode of Impact will feature the fallout from Saturday\’s Final Resolution event.

  • WWE NXT Results (12/9): Finn Balor Speaks, Karrion Kross Returns

The December 9, 2020 episode of WWE NXT aired live on the USA Network from Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center.

    WWE NXT Results

    • Jake Atlas def. Isiah Scott
    • GYV def. Imperium and Ever-Rise.
    • Tommaso Ciampa def. Cameron Grimes.
    • Pete Dunne def. Killian Dain
    • Raquel Gonzalez def. Ember Moon.

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

    Finn Balor Opens

    \"\"

WWE NXT Champion Finn Balor opened the show with a promo in the ring. He said that WarGames is done and the time for teams is over. He said that it’s Wednesday and the champion is back. He said that some people love him and some hate him, but if you want to get to know him then they can come to see him in the ring. This led to Pete Dunne walking out to the ring.

Dunne said that they’re cut from the same cloth and it’s about time that they stand face to face. He said that he’s glad Balor is back, but it’s a matter of time before he puts Balor on the shelf and he is the NXT Champion.

Kyle O’Reilly came out to the ring and said that Pete is a tough guy. He said that he knows Balor didn’t forget about the guy who broke his jaw and took him to the limit. He said that they have unfinished business. Damian Priest came out next and said that he’s been looking forward to this for a while. He said that a match between him and Balor is a marquee match. The three challengers took shots at each other while Balor left the ring. Balor said that on January 6th he will defend the title, but it’s not his problem who he will be facing.

Karrion Kross’s music played and Scarlett came out to staredown Balor. Finn said that when Kross is ready then he’s ready.

WWE aired a promo from Balor during Sunday\’s NXT Takeover: WarGames 2020 event. He warned that all eyes will be back on The Prince beginning that night. Balor has been out of action with a jaw injury since the Takeover: 31 event in a match against O’Reilly.

    Tommaso Ciampa vs. Cameron Grimes

    \"\"

Cameron Grimes faced Tommaso Ciampa in a singles match.

Entering this contest, Ciampa was fresh off a win over Timothy Thatcher at TakeOver while Grimes lost to Dexter Lumis in a Strap Match.

Thatcher watched on from ringside. It was a fun back and forth match, which saw both men have their moments. Grimes worked over the neck of Ciampa.

The end of the match saw Tyler Rust run down to the ring to try to attack Ciampa, but Ciampa caught him. Grimes kicked Ciampa in the face. Moments later, Ciampa caught him after reversing an outside dive attempt with a second rope DDT for the win.

Grimes went away from the comedy style of character that he’s been in for the majority of his run in NXT. It also appears that the feud between Ciampa and Thatcher will continue.

    Ember Moon vs. Raquel Gonzalez

    \"\"

Ember Moon vs. Raquel Gonzalez took place in a singles match. Interestingly enough, this ended up being the main event of the show and WWE even announced that ahead of the broadcast.

Of course, this comes after the two stars worked the women’s WarGames match this past Sunday at the TakeOver special that saw Team Candice (Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Gonzalez & Toni Storm) defeat Team Shotzi (Shotzi Blackheart, Moon, Rhea Ripley & NXT Women\’s Champion Io Shirai) when Gonzalez pinned Shirai.

The finish of this contest saw Gonzalez go for her finisher, but Moon rolled her up for 2. Gonzalez picked her up and hit the one arm slam finisher for the win.

Post-match, Toni Storm came out, but Rhea Ripley followed and pulled Moon out of the ring before getting in the ring herself. Rhea and Gonzalez had a staredown before Gonzalez backed down to end the show.

    New Feud For Io Shirai

    \"\"

WWE aired a video package while recapping the men’s and women’s WarGames matches. It cut to a backstage interview with Toni Storm where she was asked why she turned on Ember Moon heading into the match.

Storm said people should put it together as Moon was in the wrong place at the wrong time and she guesses that she made the right decision considering the team that won.

She noted that when she joined NXT that she made it crystal clear that her sights were on one thing only and that is the NXT Women’s Title, but all she has heard about is Moon because she feels Moon stole her thunder and that doesn’t sit well with her. However, that’s okay because she will become the next NXT women’s Champion.

Io Shirai appeared and said that now WarGames is over, her focus is on the title. She noted that she doesn’t have a problem with Storm, but doesn’t like her. They brawled in the backstage area and out to the ring. Moon came out and tossed Storm into the steps and then into the ring where Io hit a moonsault off the top rope.

    Karrion Kross Returns

    \"\"

There was a segment with Candice LeRae, Johnny Gargano, Indie Heartwell, and Austin Theory where they were bragging about their wins at NXT TakeOver.

All of a sudden Damian Priest came out to the stage and congratulated Gargano for winning the North American Title. As he was walking down to the ring, Karrion Kross came out and attacked Priest. He laid him out after powerbombing Priest off the stage through a table.

Kross walked out of the building, got in a car with Scarlett, and drove off

  • AEW Announces Holiday Bash & New Year’s Smash Dynamite Episodes, Snoop Dogg Appearance

AEW is closing out 2020 and starting off 2021 with some special themed episodes of Dynamite.

On Wednesday’s show on TNT, All Elite Wrestling announced the episodes that will air over the next few weeks including the December 23rd edition will be titled AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash.

There had been some speculation as to what AEW would do with this show considering TNT is airing the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks game around the time that AEW would usually air.

So instead of moving AEW to a different night, TNT will be airing Dynamite immediately after the NBA game. Regarding the December 30th episode of Dynamite, it will be titled “New Year’s Smash: Night 1.”

Finally, the January 6th episode of Dynamite will be titled “New Year’s Bash: Night 2.” This show will feature an appearance by rap icon Snoop Dogg, who is coming off doing commentary for the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr fight that aired on pay-per-view a few weeks ago.

So while the December 23rd edition won’t be going directly head-to-head with WWE NXT for two straight hours, it will go up against the January 6th episode as normal.

That will be interesting to see how both shows do in the ratings that night as while AEW has this special episode, NXT will be presenting its New Year’s Evil theme.

During Wednesday’s episode of NXT, it was revealed that Finn Balor will be defending the NXT Title on the show next month, but his opponent has yet to be named. WWE did tease his possible opponent being Damian Priest, Kyle O’Reilly, or Karrion Kross.

  • Karrion Kross Returns From Injury On WWE NXT

Karrion Kross has made his return from being sidelined with an injury and is now back on WWE NXT.

Wednesday’s episode saw Scarlett have a staredown with Finn Balor after he did a promo segment to open the show to tease his possible opponent on January 6th. Balor told her that Kross can fight him anywhere, any time.

Later in the show during a segment that featured Damian Priest interrupting Candice LeRae, Johnny Gargano, Indie Heartwell, and Austin Theory, Kross made his return by attacking Priest and sending him off the stage through a table. Kross then drove off with Scarlett.

Karrion Kross\’ return comes shortly after WWE aired a promo video depicting a vulture and his signature phrase \”Tick Tock\” at Takeover: WarGames. To add fuel to the fire, Kross acknowledged the video on Twitter right after it had aired. This was the first mention of Kross on television since he vacated the NXT Title back in August.

Kross defeated Keith Lee to win the NXT Title in the headliner of TakeOver: XXX. He suffered a separated shoulder during this match.

  • Shaq Addresses Cody Beef, Brandi Rhodes Throws Drink On Him During AEW Dynamite

Just as AEW announced earlier this week, Shaquille O’Neal spoke with Tony Schiavone on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

This came after Shaq’s name was brought up several weeks ago during a segment on Dynamite when Jade Cargill teased that Shaq was on his way while doing a promo with Brandi and Cody Rhodes.

Fast forward to Wednesday’s Dynamite, Shaq did backstage segment with Schiavone and Brandi. Schiavone brought up how Shaq had something he wanted to tell the fans. Shaq recalled watching Jade a few weeks ago and how he’s a fan of hers as they go back a long way. He noted that he wants to see her do big things, but didn’t appreciate Jade’s attack on the arm of Brandi.

Brandi said that she didn’t appreciate breaking her arm either, but she hopes things can calm down and further incidents won’t happen. Shaq said he would love to see Jade and Brandi wrestle on Dynamite.

Shaq noted that him going after Cody on Twitter was all in fun and that he has all the respect in the world for the wrestlers. He said that he loves Cody and Dustin. He noted that he’ll be there for a match with Jade and Brandi.

Just as Brandi was about to leave, he told Brandi that she could learn some points from Jade. This led to Brandi throwing a drink in Shaq’s face and calling him an oversized a**hole.

  • Sting Has Exchange With Cody Rhodes During AEW Dynamite Appearance

As promised, Sting made an appearance on AEW Dynamite for a second straight week, but this time he spoke.

Sting interrupted an interview segment with Tony Schiavone, Arn Anderson, and Cody Rhodes during the first hour of the show. Tony gave Sting the microphone and then they hugged it out. Sting thanked Tony for everything he’s done and did the iconic, “It’s Sting,” introduction.

Rhodes welcomed Sting back and said that he’s been waiting to share the ring with him for a very long time. Sting said that he’s not here for Rhodes just yet. He pointed to Darby Allin, who was in the grandstands, and said that there’s something familiar about this place.

He said that he’s in the jungle and the Stinger has come full circle as he’s back on TNT again.

Sting said that Cody knows everything that goes on in AEW, but one thing is for sure and that’s nothing is sure with him. However, he does know that he’s signed with AEW and he does plan on being close with the fans for a long time.

He plans to be here for a long time, but the way he chooses to play is his business. Sting added that he would see the kid around.

Of course, Sting made his promotional debut in a surprise fashion following a tag team match last week. It was announced shortly thereafter that he had signed a multi-year deal with the promotion.

  • EC3 Set To Be A Free Agent Again Soon

EC3 is keeping his deals short these days after he was released by WWE earlier this year.

Staying true to his character, he is controlling his own narrative in addition to his freedom when it comes to who he wants to work for.

The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion is slated to be contractually free once again very soon. He told Fightful Select that he will be “freed up” again when 2021 hits, which  implies that his ROH deal is running up at the end of this month.

Of course, he does have some options for his next landing spot including signing a new deal with Ring of Honor. It was noted in the interview that he is on good terms with Impact Wrestling. However, he’s not sure about signing a long-term deal even though the promotion has apparently expressed interest in doing such a deal.

EC3 added that he doesn’t know if he wants to be “nailed down long term” with any contract right now. Shortly after joining ROH in October, he was written off Impact television.

He made his return to Impact Wrestling following the main event of the Slammiversary pay-per-view event from Skyway Studios in Nashville, Tennessee back in July.

EC3 Claims WWE ‘Stole’ Raw Underground Concept

  • WWE RAW Viewership & Key Demo Slightly Down Again (12/7)

Monday’s edition of WWE RAW averaged 1.736 million viewers with a 0.52 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. This was down from last week in total viewers, which did 1.741 million viewers and the 0.53 demo rating.

WWE went up against an NFL game that aired on ESPN, which was between the 49ers and Bills that had 7.763 million viewers.

To compare, just one year ago, RAW averaged 2.130 million viewers. Next week’s show should be up as it will serve as the go-home show for the TLC PPV.

Here’s the hourly viewership breakdown for Raw, courtesy of Showbuzzdaily.com:

    • Hour 1: 1.852 million, 0.55 in the 18-49 Demo
    • Hour 2: 1.775 million, 0.52 in the 18-49 Demo
    • Hour 3: 1.583 million, 0.47 in the 18-49 Demo

    SmackDown Viewership

Friday’s SmackDown averaged 2.130 million viewers on FOX. This is down from the 2.141 that the show did for the previous week on FOX.

The overnight rating was 2.029 million viewers, which was down from 1.987 a week ago. The first hour did 2.053 million viewers while hour two did 2.016 million viewers. This was up from a week ago with hour one doing 2.016 and hour two doing 1.957.

SmackDown pulled in a 0.60 rating in the 18-49 demos, the same from 0.60 rating as last week’s show.

Jaxson Ryker Returns To WWE On Main Event

  • Jaxson Ryker Returns To WWE On Main Event

Jaxson Ryker is back on WWE television, but just not on RAW or SmackDown. Instead, he appeared in the opening segment of this week’s episode of Main Event.

The show was taped on Monday night before RAW went live. Those who appeared in the crowd for the taping noted that Ryker made an appearance as he was in a segment with Elias.

R-Truth, who is the WWE 24/7 Champion, interrupted the two WWE stars. Thus, it appears that WWE has paired the two stars together. Keith Lee vs. Angel Garza was also taped for this week\’s WWE Main Event.

This marked his first appearance on WWE television since The Forgotten Sons were pulled from SmackDown back in late May. At the time, they were in the middle of a big push while contender for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

Last week on SmackDown, Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler made their returns to WWE programming. They did so by aligning with Baron Corbin in order to help him score a win over Buddy Murphy.

Ryker found himself in hot water after pro-Trump comments he made on Twitter. There had been talk of WWE possibly releasing Ryker, but that may have changed.

  • Pat McAfee Wears Neck Brace After WarGames Match, Teases WWE NXT Future

Pat McAfee is selling the damage he suffered while working the main event of Sunday’s WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames event.

The headliner saw The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish, Kyle O\’Reilly) defeat McAfee, Pete Dunne and NXT Tag Team Champions Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.

McAfee was sporting a neck brace on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday for what he called precautionary reasons.

“Hell of a match, my guys and I ended up losing to the scumbags that are Undisputed ERA. And I’m not happy about it.”

McAfee noted that he was awaiting test results he had done earlier in the day regarding his neck. He joked that he felt like his body was broken this morning to the point where he couldn\’t get out of bed, couldn\’t walk or move much at all.

“So, not an overreaction. This is my life now, okay? And although we did not get the W, I will let you know we did not go down without a fight. And the next time we get our hands on them, they’ll be the ones wearing the neck braces.”

As of this writing, there’s no word yet on when McAfee will be back on NXT TV. After his first pro wrestling match, the former NFL punter took several weeks off before returning.

  • Mauro Ranallo Addresses His Decision To Leave WWE

Mauro Ranallo parted ways with WWE for a second time earlier this year and now has opened up on it.

Ranallo’s first run saw him as the lead announcer for SmackDown Live before he left the company only to return and be in that same role on WWE NXT brand.

Ranallo did an interview with POST Wrestling where he opened up on his decision.

“WWE is one of the most mentally grueling places — and that\’s not necessarily a criticism by any means — there\’s a reason Vince McMahon has built a multi-billion dollar empire. Is it perfect? Not by any means, but neither am I.\”

Joining WWE was a dream come true because of his love of pro wrestling. He brought up how his childhood friend envisioned him working for the company and although his late friend didn’t get to see it, he did get a chance to join the company.

Ranallo felt good chemistry with Jerry Lawler and Bryon Saxton on SmackDown, but WWE made changes. He can work with anyone, but he wasn’t a fan of having several people on the broadcast at the same time such as a four or eight-man booth.

“I get it, but that\’s not what I want as a commentator. I get the stressful situations, I get the changes on the fly and the system there, but for my mental health, even moving to NXT. When we were live, it was the best experience I could ask for, and that\’s a testament to what Triple H and everyone down in NXT have done. I just felt, for my own mental health, even doing the show from home, it was to the point where I would have a panic attack in the morning of the recordings in the last few months.\”

He continued, All respect, I didn\’t like what was happening and who was involved. I didn’t like…all due to respect to all announcers, I believe in chemistry. Maybe I was the problem. On show day, I\’m not a great guy to be around because I\’m completely focused. I\’m prepared and I expect everyone else to be the same. There’s another reason, I\’m a play-by-play announcer, and I think I\’m one of the best in business, I need to be left alone at times.\”

He thanked WWE for everything, noting that his work there improved his standing in the world. It opened other doors for him, as well.

\”It was like my life, it was filled with ups and downs and aberrations. Sometimes when a dream comes true, it doesn’t remain a dream, sometimes you’re not supposed to meet your heroes.”

Ranallo voiced his appreciation for the company and while he didn’t see eye to eye with Vince McMahon and vice-versa, he still respects him. NXT was Vince McMahon\’s vision, and ultimately it became too much for him.

Check out the full interview in the YouTube player embedded below. His comments about WWE begin around the 17-minute mark.

  • Undisputed Era Wins Men’s WarGames Match

The 2020 chapter in WarGames history has been written as the men’s version of the match was memorable.

WWE held the match at the NXT TakeOver: WarGames event with the expected main event It featured The Kings of NXT (Pat McAfee, Pete Dunne, NXT Tag Team Champions Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch) vs. The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly) in the headliner.

They put on one heck of a match that delivered. The order of wrestlers entering the match is listed as the following: Dunne, O’Reilly, Lorcan, Fish, Burch, Strong, McAfee, and Cole.

McAfee hit a moonsault off the top rope sending Strong through a table. McAfee worked over the left knee of Cole throughout the match. There was a botched table spot until Strong sent Dunne and Lorcan through it.

Undisputed Era did have a moment of revenge on McAfee. Later on, McAfee did a wild Swanton Bomb off the top of the cage to take everyone out. Fish speared Burch through a table. The finish saw Fish and Strong layout Burch and then O’Reilly landed a flying knee off the top rope to Burch’s face with a chair.

Last year’s event saw Tommaso Ciampa, Donovan Dijak, Keith Lee and Owens beat The Undisputed Era while the 2018 version featured War Raiders, Ricochet & Pete Dunne beating The Undisputed Era.

  • Karrion Kross\’ Return Teased During NXT TakeOver: WarGames

It appears that Karrion Kross is very close to making a return to WWE NXT.

Following a strap match between Cameron Grimes and Dexter Lumis at Sunday’s NXT TakeOver: WarGames show, a short vignette aired showing a vulture, a clear indication for Kross and his return.

The video ended with the signature \”Tick, Tock,\” his trademark phrase. Following the segment, Kross acknowledged the vignette on Twitter when he wrote “Think about the future.”

Triple H was asked about Kross\’ return this week in an interview with Fox Sports’ Ryan Satin.

“He’s one of those guys that, again, you want to run through a brick wall for,” he told Satin. “But, he’ll run through the brick wall for himself. That’s the other thing. He’s not here to sit back and go, ‘Man, I hope this heals well.’ He’s going to. If it doesn’t heal well, it’s not on him. It’s not on lack of effort. He did everything conceivable to get there and he’s ready to rock and roll. It’s just a timing thing now.”

The former NXT Champion has been out of action since he suffered a separated shoulder during a match at TakeOver XXX on August 22.

He won the title that night but had to vacate the title on the next episode of NXT due to the injury.

  • Johnny Gargano Wins North American Title At WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames

Leon Ruff made his first title defense on a WWE NXT TakeOver special against Johnny Gargano and Damien Priest.

It happened on Sunday at the WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames event when a Triple Threat Match was booked with the North American Championship on the line.

The match featured Priest being featured in the big man role and dominating his opponents. Ruff did some wild spots such as being tossed through the barricade by Priest. Three people dressed up as ghost face appeared and attacked Priest, but Priest took them out.

More came down to the ring and he took them out with a dive. The finish saw a person dressed up hit Priest with a pipe and Gargano connecting with a superkick then a springboard DDT to Ruff. Austin Theory was revealed as the final ghost face.

This contest came about after Ruff shockingly won the title from Gargano on NXT TV three weeks after getting help from Priest distracting Gargano. The following week, Ruff and Gargano faced off in a rematch, but ended via disqualification when Priest punched Ruff so Gargano wouldn\’t be able to win the title back.

Finally, the three-way contest was made official on last week’s NXT episode during a KO Show segment with Ruff that was interrupted by Priest and Gargano.

  • Team LeRae Wins Women’s WarGames Match

For the second straight year, WWE held a WarGames featuring female talent and it didn’t disappoint.

At Sunday’s WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames event, this year’s version of this contest featured Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley, and Io Shirai vs. Candice LeRae, Toni Storm, Raquel Gonzalez, and Dakota Kai.

Moon and Kai started the match. Stars followed them in the following order: Blackheart, Gonzalez, Ripley, Storm, Shiri, and LeRae.

Various weapons were used in this match such as kendo sticks, ladders, and more. There was a spot where Io was locked out of the ring after Indie Heartwell attacked her and stole the key. A notable spot saw Io put a trash can on her head before jumping on everyone from the top of the cage. The finish saw Gonzalez power bomb Io through a ladder between the ropes.

Last year’s women’s match saw Rhea Ripley, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox & Candice LeRae beat Shayna Baszler, Bianca Belair, Io Shirai & Kay Lee Ray.

The next special for NXT comes during Royal Rumble weekend with the NXT TakeOver: special in January.

  • Impact Wrestling Talent Frustrated With Lack Of COVID-19 Protocols

Last month, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “there was a COVID test positive\” from the latest Impact Wrestling TV tapings. It turns out that there are some on the roster who are not happy with how the promotion conducts its protocols regarding COVID-19.

Fightful Select reports that there are several wrestlers who aren\’t thrilled with the procedures as some even mentioned that the last set of tapings seemed to be ‘more unprepared’ and ‘fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants than any this year’.

The COVID protocols were said to be a ‘major concern’ given that there was a positive test. Several talents reportedly hadn’t received a test over the course of multiple sets of tapings.

Instead, the promotion has only been temperature checked in addition to having wrestlers fill out paperwork to record if they’ve had symptoms.

Impact’s Ethan Page recently revealed he was quarantining because he had been in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.

Up until the last set of tapings, the promotion hadn’t dealt with any positive tests. The promotion won\’t have any more tapings for the rest of 2020 as they\’ve taped enough content for their weekly television show on AXS TV.
