Former WWE star Alba Fyre recently revealed that her departure from the company was a choice and not a firing.
Fyre, who goes by Kay Lee Ray, has revealed that her contract ran out. She decided to walk, a decision that put her back in a Pro Wrestling EVE ring just weeks later with no 90-day non-compete clock hanging over her.
Speaking to Daily Star moments after her return match in EVE, Ray explained the distinction.
Ray made her return to independent wrestling last weekend, her first appearance since her run under the Alba Fyre name. She left the company in April alongside several other names.
“My contract was up, and I knew it was coming up, and I did a decision of whether I wanted to stay or not,” Ray said. “I know some other people got fired, and they have a 90-day clause. Because mine was just [my] contract ending, it means I didn’t have the 90 days, and I was able to come and do this.”
Most wrestlers cut from the WWE roster exit with a 90-day non-compete clause, which would have kept Ray off the EVE show. Because her departure came from a contract expiring rather than a release, that restriction did not apply to her.
Kay Lee Ray Teases Future Plans
Ray made clear she already has projects lined up, though she is holding the details back for now.
“I’m sure now you’re going to start seeing some things appear. I’ve been speaking to a few people, so some things are gonna be going out,” she said. “But, I’m kind of keeping that to myself. You’ll see more in the future.”
For now, the deliberate decision to let her deal lapse has Ray back on the independent scene with more announcements teased to come.
