Seth Rollins gave Dominik Mysterio his first WWE match at SummerSlam 2020, and nearly six years later, he is proudly taking some credit for the heel that “Dirty Dom” has become.
‘The Visionary’ now calls Mysterio the most “detestable, disgusting, irredeemable character” on WWE television, framing it as a proud mentor moment.
Speaking on Prince Street Pizza’s Pizza Talks, Rollins reflected on Mysterio’s growth from a rookie babyface trying to step out of his father’s shadow into one of the promotion’s most effective villains.
“What’s not to love about Dirty Dom? I love the kid,” Rollins said.
He then pointed out his role in the origin story:
“Did you know I gave Dom his first match in WWE?”
From Rey Mysterio’s Son To Judgment Day Villain
When Mysterio debuted against Rollins at SummerSlam 2020, he was being presented as Rey Mysterio’s son trying to make his way in the business. The contrast with today’s character could not be sharper.
Dom is now a key member of The Judgment Day and one of WWE’s most polarizing stars, a performer fans genuinely love to hate. Rollins says that transformation has been a success.
“To see what he’s become now and the most detestable, disgusting, irredeemable character on our television show, I love every second of it,” Rollins said.
Rollins added that Mysterio has fully embraced his current role:
“He’s really come into his own.”
Rollins and Dominik Mysterio have a fair share of history. Mysterio and Liv Morgan have traded barbs with Rollins and Becky Lynch in the past. Liv Morgan even declared herself and Dominik the “better couple” over Rollins and Lynch.
